Sunday, Sunday...Important Stuff day.

5. Someone at Cannes Fired Shots Near Christoph Waltz.

Saturday, as my man was being interviewed by French news program "Le Grand Journal" in front of a live audience, shots rang out...mayhem ensued. Waltz was quickly evacuated, the audience ran in all directions; then the perpetrator was quickly caught and apprehended. Turns out the suspect's weapon was loaded with blanks--whew--and no one was injured.

The Day Before, Up to a Million Dollars Worth of Chopard Jewels Were Stolen from a Nearby Hotel Room.

Meanwhile, a representative of Swiss jeweler Chopard had locked away a few expensive baubles in a hotel room safe, which thieves removed (in its entirety) from the wall at approximately 5 a.m.--the room was vacant at the time. Though several actresses appearing at the film festival had been decked out in Chopard, the company says those pieces were not part of the stolen collection.

4. George R. R. Martin Is Too Busy Writing Movie Reviews to Write The Winds of Winter.

This guy will do anything to get out of writing the next A Song of Ice and Fire installment. (I kid, I kid.) But seriously, it does seem like Martin has a lot of side projects--including movie blogger. And among his reasons for loving Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby, is the fact that Fitzgerald's own words are used in voiceovers, and DiCaprio's performance. So, you know, maybe go read Feast again; I hear a lot of people find that one slow-going.

3. Nick Murphy's Blood Trailer Debuted.

The Awakening director returns with this psychological thriller based on Bill Gallagher's BBC series, "Conviction." Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham are police officers and brothers; their father (Brian Cox) is a former chief, suffering dementia. While investigating a murder, the brothers lose sight of their own morals and, as you can guess, things go downhill from there. Mark Strong is a senior detective who becomes suspicious of his fellow officers; Ben Crompton ("Game of Thrones," Kill List) also stars. Blood premieres in the UK May 13th.

2. Our Summer of Science Fiction Marched on with the Europa Report Trailer.

Sebastián Cordero's (Pescador, Rage, Chronicles) space horror features astronauts investigating possible life on Jupiter's moon--clearly a bad idea. District 9 and Elysium veteran, Sharlto Copley, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series' Michael Nyqvist star, alongside Daniel Wu, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Christian Camargo. Europa Report hits theaters June 27, 2013.

1. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver Were Confirmed as Avengers 2 Characters.

As speculated, the brother-sister comic twins and Magneto offspring will appear in the next Whedon helmed Avengers film. Speaking to IGN, Whedon said "You know, they had a rough beginning. They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier." Additionally, when the director was questioned about whether Iron Man would be involved with Avengers 2, ***Iron Man 3 spoilers ahead, swipe to reveal: "Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, 'I've changed'--he blew up his remote suits, but I don't think anybody thinks he doesn't have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, 'Yes!'"

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is willing and able to provide personal security to Mr. Waltz.

Do you know how hard it was not to make a "French surrender" joke? And yes, I know it's a cultural stereotype. And will they make Quicksilver and the Witch be all UST?

  • Maguita NYC

Cannot believe how much news I have missed these past 3 days! And my favorite scalped Nazi being shot at, what is the world coming to?

With all due respect to Mr. RR Martin, let me tell you straight what it takes to piss off a bitch playing hard to get: You ignore her. You boycott her every effort to distract your attention from what you really want.

I'm weak to a point. Watching GoT on HBO is it. Beyond that, you can kiss my ass, finicky bitch. I'll not pay attention until you give me my Song of Ice and Fire. Then we'll talk.

  • koko temur

Wait, Brian Cox, the genious astrophysics professor?!

  • DataAngel

    You forgot "hot".

I think they mean Brian Cox the actor.

  • koko temur

meh, mine was better. most definately "hot". That shuggy hair... The man turned physics to sexy!

  • DataAngel

    Damn straight.

  • Rochelle

Mr. Waltz would be lucky to have his personal security provided by Cindy Davis. Cindy Davis would never allow Mr. Waltz to go anywhere that there might happen to be an idiot with a gun.

  • While technically accurate in the being safe from gunfire, being held in a windowless basement and forced to read the phonebook for hours on end might not be very pleasing to Mr. Waltz's sensibilities.

Although the colorful epithets he will utter at his "guardian" would certainly be worth the effort.

  • Rochelle

But it would be a beautifully appointed windowless basement with a wide variety of materials for Mr. Waltz to read aloud.

  • DoctorDouchebag

Wait, can they even legally put them in the movies? I thought Fox studios owned the rights for the movie versions of all mutants. I'm pretty sure they are not even allowed to mention Magneto or Mutants, same reason they can't mention Spiderman, not even to reference that kid in New York who can climb walls. How is this going to work exactly?

  • Batesian

As I understand it, they can be used in a capacity as Avengers-specific characters. Just can't mention anything about mutants. Conversely, Fox can use them as mutants, but can't reference the Avengers.

Spider-Man* is more tricky -- granted, he's also an Avenger, but I expect it's based on book rights (Avengers and X-Men, respectively, while Spidey has his own title -- heck, multiple titles).

*nitpick -- his name has a hyphen!

  • Mythra Sun

From what I have read, they will be changing the fact that they are mutants thus eliminating the need to mention their parentage. Joss also mentioned they will be British instead of eastern European and provide an antagonistic view of the Avengers. I'm excited to see who they cast.

  • Salieri2

Not my favorite artist, whomever's responsible for that Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver panel. Yeek. I mean, I'm not sure it's Rob Liefeld bad, but....there are a lot of uncomfortable things happening there.

  • TK

At least the Scarlet Witch has hips. I'll give it that.

  • TheOtherGreg

I'm guessing Jack Kirby, whose style I never liked.

  • Salieri2

Felt later to me. Marc Silvestri?

  • Batesian

It's a Ron Frenz piece. He's known more as a Spider-Man artist. Kirby's style was far more bold and kinetic.
