Still, I've lamented what seems to be a distinct lack of "real men" in Hollywood these days, along with what you'd think of as a traditional "leading ladies," for that matter. Most of the current crop of men in films seem to me to be nothing more than "pretty boys," and I found it absurdly easy to believe, for example, the story that they had to glue fake hair to Orlando Bloom's chest when he did Kingdom of Heaven so he'd look like an actual knight instead of a mere squire or page.

So, if I'm going to try a "man crush" on for size...hmmm...let's see...they've got to look like real men, right? Rugged, virile, etc. So:

1) Gerard Butler in 300. Whoa, an actor from a gladiator movie. Is that stereotypical of me or what? Still, if you want manliness...it's hard to beat a Spartan.

2) Viggo Mortensen. I can understand why Aragorn makes the ladies' hearts go pitter-pat...dammit. (The sex appeal of Viggo's LOTR costar Orlando Bloom, on the other hand, makes no sense to me whatsoever.)

3) Daniel Craig. Yep, put me down for the new Bond as well. Like Sean Connery, he's suave, debonair, and totally badass: an unbeatable combination.

Sure there are men out there that I hold in tremendous esteem, even some with envy. But as far as I can recall, and believe me I tried in earnest (my friend/business partner spent hours on the phone today taking on this challenge), there hasn't been and isn't any male celeb (other than Rigal; see previous post)that inspires my chemical romance. I'd love to see Adam Clayton and Edge but my yearnings stop at a million and one questions about why this chord or verse, etc. I'd want to sit with Bill Russell and find out what if Wilt was really as psyched out as the press said.
