Reddit Asks the Question: 'What Movie Could Have Been Over in Ten Minutes if the Main Character Wasn't Such a Dumb**s'?

Look, script-writing is hard. One of the trickiest parts of the process is creating compelling characters who behave logically but who also stray away from logic in times of crisis in a way that is consistent with who they are and what the audience knows about them. So it’s easy to pick holes in major movie plots by saying, ‘Oh come on! Just stop and think for a second!’ In many cases, a character just thinking things through and behaving rationally is enough to cancel out entire plots. In other cases, what may seem illogical or silly does actually make some sense in-universe in a character consistent way. It’s a fine line between the two, and it’s fun to think about the difference between the two poles. Reddit asked this very question the other day, focusing on the stupid and the illogical: ‘What movie could have been over in ten minutes if the main character wasn’t such a dumbass?’ You can check out the full thread here but below are some highlights:
