Real Time Reviewing Your Favorite (or Least Favorite) Television Show
An Afternoon Comment Diversion / Dustin Rowles
In an effort to broaden our television coverage ever so slightly, the TV Whore and I have been tossing around the idea of choosing one of the network’s offerings and real-time reviewing it each week. Of course, nobody does this better than TWoP (TVGasm has pretty solid, more digestible recaps, as well), and we certainly have no intention of widely competing with either of those fine websites, but we figured it might be fun to offer up our own talking points to those of you suffering around the water cooler the days after your favorite show aired. But, if we’re only going to recap only one show per week, what show should it be?
In today’s comment diversion, we pose that question to you. Which show — should Pajiba endeavor to enter the recap fray — would you like to see us cover each week? We’ll probably narrow down your favorites to a smaller, more manageable list, and then offer up a poll later this week. In the meantime, in addition to offering your suggestions, answer me this: What’s your favorite show, so far, of the new season?
Besides “Cavemen,” of course.

"The Office"...I think it really is in top form thus far.
Posted by: Al at October 9, 2007 2:51 PM
How about showing "Tales of the Gold Monkey" some real-time reviewing love?
Posted by: Jimmy V at October 9, 2007 2:54 PM
Friday Night Lights! Show some much-needed love to an under-appreciated show. And other hyphenated phrases...
Posted by: Mandacat at October 9, 2007 2:55 PM
I personally like "Always Sunny...". Gotta agree with "The Office" as well.
However, because I am slightly sadistic and have NO hope for this show, I think you should review "Cavemen" every week. ;)
Posted by: Alyssa at October 9, 2007 2:56 PM
Bionic Woman. It's cheesy and fun, and Miguel Ferrar and Isaiah Washington provide ready-made opportunities for humor.
Favorite show so far: The Wire. I know it hasn't aired yet. It doesn't matter. I already know it's going to be better than anything else.
Posted by: socalledonlycousins at October 9, 2007 2:57 PM
_Chuck_, geeky guy who downloads a computer into his brain? Aside from the fact that he isn't getting any new downloads and therefore would be out of date pretty quickly, it's a good premise. Plus Chuck is pretty cute.
_The Office_, I can't say anything about The Office that hasn't already been said - but I'd love to hear what you say about it.
Posted by: SalGal at October 9, 2007 2:57 PM
I would like to hear your take on Supernatural. The Office, of course, would be fun as well.
Posted by: jadeblue at October 9, 2007 3:04 PM
"Pushing Daisies" is my new favorite show this season. It's refreshing to see something so original on tv.
Posted by: nessa at October 9, 2007 3:05 PM
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. That's the only show I've had time to keep up with this season (sorry, The Office). That will all change once the new season of BSG starts.
Posted by: Scott at October 9, 2007 3:07 PM
How about "Friday Night Lights"? I mean, it is the best show on tv. Plus anything to bring in more veiwers is always a plus.
Posted by: kylers at October 9, 2007 3:08 PM
I agree with "Its Always Sunny..." as well.
Are shows on the premium channels an option? Because I think most of all I'd love a weekly "Dexter" review. I think this season's gonna be smashing.
SalGal - yeah Chuck is *really* cute, hah.
Posted by: Laurel at October 9, 2007 3:08 PM
Well, the thing I love abou the real-time reviews are how badly you destroy the shows that you hate. But, God forbid you guys have to torture yourselves with having to review, say "Cavemen" or "Mind of Mencia". I think, if you'd like to be evil, that a weekly play-by-play of the new season of I Love New York would be a fun read. Otherwise, Dog the Bounty Hunter is just begging to be watched/torn apart by you lovely folks.
Posted by: jonr at October 9, 2007 3:09 PM
It's Always Sunny... would provide some solid humor each week. Plus it's really hard to describe it to people who don't watch it but you think should, so I could forward them links to the reviews.
I haven't watched any of the new shows out this season, but as for my returning favorites I've found them to be pretty lackluster so far. It's a bit disappointing. I have no time in my life to increase my TV viewing, but based on what I've heard I may have to add Pushing Daisies to the repertoire.
Posted by: katy at October 9, 2007 3:10 PM
I think hearing you guys pounce on Grey's Anatomy would be amazing to read, but if you want a more serious show, maybe something like Heroes or The Office.
Best show of the new season? Pushing Daisies, by far. Last week's show made me so happy. We'll see if it can keep it up this week.
Posted by: Ben at October 9, 2007 3:12 PM
Friday Night Lights. Pretty please.
Posted by: lilianna28 at October 9, 2007 3:16 PM
How's about tackling Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations?
Posted by: David at October 9, 2007 3:21 PM
...oh, and my favorite new show of the season thus far is "The Powers of Matthew Star".
Posted by: Jimmy V at October 9, 2007 3:22 PM
You should real time something that has a pretty large audience, such as Grey's Anatomy or CSI. Those are good shows that are also fun to make fun of. So you see? The fun?
Favorite new show (so far): Chuck. It really is surprisingly funny!
Posted by: imoverthere at October 9, 2007 3:24 PM
I would suggest either Pushing Daisies, which is undeniably the best new show of the year, or House, which wins the Lazarus Award for its return to form after a year of near-total collapse.
Posted by: WestCoastPat at October 9, 2007 3:24 PM
Friday Night Lights or 30 Rock.
Posted by: YAY! at October 9, 2007 3:25 PM
I don't think that the comedy recaps work so well as drama ones, I'm gonna say Friday Night Lights (
Posted by: Fe at October 9, 2007 3:25 PM
There are only two natural choices:
1. Dancing With the Stars.
2. My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Because I like a little suffering in my real-time reviews. That's right. I want to see you bitches squirm.
Posted by: TK at October 9, 2007 3:26 PM
What's your favorite show, so far, of the new season?
The only new show I'm watching this season is Journeyman, and while Husband is getting into it after three eps, I'm about to lose interest completely. I'm waiting impatiently for Lost to come back.
On to the bigger question:
FNL is a quality drama, and while that makes it great to watch, it would make for terribly boring real-time review/recapping.
The same is true of the good comedies other people have mentioned--they're fun to watch. Reading recaps would simply be reading re-tellings of the funny stuff; peeyoo.
I say the only--and perfect--TV show for Pajiba-style recapping is Desperate Housewives. I've never watched it before this season (regular commenters won't have to be told the reason I've started tuning in), but man, talk about cheese. Somehow it manages to take itself too seriously, while simultaneously (and constantly) trying to convince viewers that it's not taking itself too seriously.
I've never seen anything like it. I'm only two episodes in and I'm starting to feel sorry that I haven't been watching this thing since Day One. DH is completely batshit insane. With occasional Kyle McLachlan. Please Pajiba-cap Desperate Housewives!
Posted by: Jerce at October 9, 2007 3:29 PM
Dexter would be smashing. That's seriously good television.
Posted by: Soda at October 9, 2007 3:30 PM
The Office!
Posted by: Julie at October 9, 2007 3:33 PM
Best show of the new season? A tie between The Office and the absolutely amazing Pushing Daisies.
But I agree with Ben - you should tackle Grey's Anatomy. What used to be a good show has turned into a mess. Take those scrubs-wearing bitches down!
Posted by: magnolia at October 9, 2007 3:34 PM
I have to agree with "Pushing Daisies" and "Supernatural". "Pushing Daisies" is my favorite new show of the season and "Supernatural"... well as much as I love it, I'd love to see your review of it more. Annnnnddd I might agree with TK about seeing you guys squirm.
Posted by: Lauren at October 9, 2007 3:35 PM
Oh and my favorite new show so far this year is Chuck. Favorite returning shows are The Office, 30 Rock, HIMYM, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Posted by: Julie at October 9, 2007 3:35 PM
My favorite new show this season is definitely Chuck; he's so geeky and adorable! (And how can you go wrong with Adam Baldwin?)
Bionic Woman might be a fun recap too; it's entertaining, and the dialogue sometimes is so over the top it's moderately hysterical.
Favorite returning show has to be Dexter ... but The Office would probably make for funnier recaps!
Posted by: Miriam at October 9, 2007 3:37 PM
i loves me some "office", so that would be cool. the only other shows i really follow are 'weeds' and 'californication(god, what an unfortunate name)'. so either one of those would be nice, too. or the new "i love new york". jeez i enjoy that trash.
Posted by: kb at October 9, 2007 3:40 PM
My favs:
-Its Always Sunny
-Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Dexter
-Friday Night Lights
-Californication
-30 Rock
But I think you need to recap something seriously awful and hilarious such as:
-Gossip Girl or,
-Americas Next Top Model
And the most boring:
-The Office
Posted by: Andrea at October 9, 2007 3:44 PM
Ooh, imoverthere, CSI is a really excellent suggestion.
Okay, if Pajiba won't or can't recap Desp. Housewvs. then my vote goes to CSI, as long as it's the original with William "Deadpan" Peterson and not one of the crappy knockoffs.
Posted by: Jerce at October 9, 2007 3:44 PM
CSI: Miami
hehe.
but seriously, Desperate Housewifes by Daniel Carson please. And VM references are only allowed in every second sentence.
Posted by: jd at October 9, 2007 3:45 PM
I'd love to see Pushing Daisies reviewed, but I'm more of a fan of Dustin ranting, so I'd go with something like "My Super Sweet 16"
Posted by: Ben at October 9, 2007 3:45 PM
My favorite new show is Pushing Daisies
But I'd enjoy a real-time review of Heroes every week. If not Heroes, then Reaper. If not Reaper, then Journeyman.

While I don't think "Tell Me You Love Me" is a great show, I would love to see it rendered in print. "They fall to the floor disrobed, biting each other all the while...."
Posted by: samantha t at October 9, 2007 3:54 PM
The Office! Please!!! For some odd reason, nobody I know watches this show, so I never have anyone to disect the funny bits with. I need my outlet, and I know my Pajiba folk will do it justice.
Posted by: MO at October 9, 2007 3:54 PM
I have been surprisingly pleased by Chuck. It's not the greatest show on television, of course, and some of the "action" scenes are pretty lame, but overall it's much better than last season's Heroes lead-in, Deal or No Deal (but that's really not saying much).
Posted by: Eric at October 9, 2007 3:54 PM
pushing daisies was by far the best new show of the season (which makes me fear for its future).
but i would love a weekly recap of battlestar galactica or lost when they come back.
Posted by: sleater at October 9, 2007 3:57 PM
I agree with the commenters who suggest that you real-time review a show that ...
* has the potential to be good but just isn't;
* used to be good but isn't anymore;
* might be good in the future but isn't quite yet;
* is so bad that it's actually good.
Don't RTR a good show that is actually good! It would be such a waste of you finely honed scathing bitchiness.
Posted by: Paris at October 9, 2007 3:58 PM
Something campy and on network for us poor folks. Recapping good shows is a bad idea because it's more fun to read jokes about bad shows than it is to read more praise about good shows (which already receive enough, at least some of the shows people have listed above). This is of course only my opinion.
But I'd love to see you do Kid's Nation.
Posted by: David at October 9, 2007 3:59 PM
I have no idea what just happened, or how.
Posted by: Jerce at October 9, 2007 4:02 PM
TK, isn't watching "My Super Sweet Sixteen" punishment enough? However, if I am going for the pain-inflicting choice, I choose "My Super Sweet Sixteen" or "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". With EM:HE I can see the reviewer wanting to destroy Ty Pennington in about 3.5 seconds.
Original submissions are either: Scrubs (which I love, but shut up Zach Braff), or "Man vs. Wild" or the echoes of "Gray's whiny-ass Anatomy", or "Desperate Housewives".
Jerce, that show has long been that crazy. It really is part of the charm. I only watch it because of residual love of Marcia Cross as Dr. Kimberly Shaw of Melrose Place. I await the crazy wig-removal scene and the eventual blowing up of Wisteria Lane.

I love the normal reviews and hate the real-time reviews. Who's with me?
Posted by: Leaf at October 9, 2007 4:06 PM
I think it should definitly be The Office. That is also my favorite show so far this year. My friends and I got together to drink wine and watch the first episode because we love it sooo much!
Posted by: Erin at October 9, 2007 4:08 PM
My favorite shows so far this year are House and The Office, but if you're going to real-time review something, I personally would like to see it be E.R. That show jumped the shark years ago, to the point where they're recycling characters (tell me that John Stamos' character isn't a re-creation of George Clooney's character, and you're a liar), so to me, its a good canidate for some bitchyness.
Posted by: Dante at October 9, 2007 4:34 PM
I invite you to rip apart The Bachelor or ANTM. Gray's Anatomy would probably be entertaining as well (the real-time review, not the actual show).
Posted by: LL at October 9, 2007 4:35 PM
Always Sunny would be a great show to see how you would recap - they are some of the most reprehensible yet insanely hilarious people on TV. Southpark is another fine choice - Tourrettes and to Catch a Predator in the same episode.
My favorite new shows:
1. Chuck
2. Reaper
3. I saw a late night showing of Life on USA and it seems pretty interesting.
Haven't seen some of the other new ones yet: Daisies, Sexy Monkey and Bionic
Posted by: Brian at October 9, 2007 4:38 PM
Come on, you know that Grey's Anatomy would be verily humourous. It's like someone left you a joke on your doorstep, and its just begging you to take in inside and nourish it with bitchiness.
Do it. It's begging to be scathed.
Posted by: Brenda at October 9, 2007 4:39 PM
I'd be interested to see a Heroes real-time review. I love It's Always Sunny, but what would that look like real time:
0:15: says some horrible shit to each other. bwahahahaha.
0:25: hahahahaah. did you just see the--
0:26: bwhahaha.
With Heroes, you can at least cut it up if you dislike it, you can speculate on what cliche they're going to exploit next, and you can always wish you were watching Monday Night Football.
Posted by: insertclevernamehere at October 9, 2007 4:41 PM
Okay...I am with everyone who thinks there should be a "Grey's Anatomy" real time review (RTR). I watched the season opener, and my God, I could not believe how horrible that whole show has gotten. Is there any possibility that a show's namesake could just be written off? I just can't watch the show with a straight face anymore because it's become a joke, a sad, whiny, and "we're okay" joke. (And, I am sick to death of the "I'm okay" mantra bullshit...I get it. "I'm okay" stands for "I'm completely batshit crazy and whiny.")
Also, I think "The Office" is doing stellar this season, so far. I thought the hour long episodes might do a great disservice to the show; however, it has worked out well. I'm still laughing over the whole "I don't want Garbage. I want Sprinkles!" fiasco.
Posted by: Gigi Worthington at October 9, 2007 4:45 PM
The Office! For the humor.
Or America's Next Top Model. Also for the humor.
Posted by: Jenn at October 9, 2007 4:51 PM
"I Love New York 2"! I think a cheesy show would be more fun to read about.
Unfortunately this diversion comes after "Rock of Love" is over with. I was so totally wishing for a weekly review after you did the first episode. That show was brilliant.
"Kitchen Nightmares" would be good also. Either BBC or Fox version.
Posted by: shelleyh at October 9, 2007 4:56 PM
it's a tie between cavemen, bionic woman and friday night tits, er, i mean, the ghost whisperer.
for really real's - the office.
then again, it would be pretty funny to see seth write a recap each week of say, ugly betty.
Posted by: smash at October 9, 2007 4:57 PM
I am really digging Reaper, as is Mr. ohgrl (a Pajiba lurker). Chuck is a good show too, but since they admitted he'll be obsolete in 6 months, I wonder if they can keep the show going without getting lame.
Posted by: ohgrl at October 9, 2007 5:04 PM
F! N! L!!!
My vote DEFs goes to "Friday Night Lights." OSSOM show.
My second vote would go to "Pushing Daisies."
And if I could get a third vote, it would go to "Supernatural." Man, Jensen Ackles is hott.
Posted by: Jelinas at October 9, 2007 5:07 PM
I honestly don't understand why everyone's offering up GOOD shows for real-time reviews! The hands-down BEST real time reviews come from crap! I seriously think you should pick something ridiculous, awful, and predictable as hell to make fun of. Something like Law and Order or CSI, where you can always see the "twist" like 3 miles away, or something like "According to Jim" or "'Til Death--" a horrific sitcom that boggles the mind with its banality and asininity.
Tee hee... asininity.
Posted by: AnnArrogance at October 9, 2007 5:10 PM
i'm lovin' dirty sexy money, chuck, gossip girl, and pushing daisies. i don't get bionic woman--i will keep watching it--for starbuck--but i don't get it yet.
i love tv whore's comments on BSG, but that isn't back on yet--and i think it is better suited to a normal review, so i'm going to have to go with desperate housewives or grey's. heroes could be good too--that show can be all over the place. as much as i love FNL and want everyone to watch it, i don't think it should get the real time treatment.
ANTM could be pretty funny too--but only if y'all understand the fabulosity that is Ms. J.
Posted by: pq at October 9, 2007 5:14 PM
Good suggestions so far.
The only new show I've watched is Dirty Sexy Money, and while it's a decent candidate for RTR, I don't know if the show has enough staying power, so it wouldn't be worth it. I'm feeling very lukewarm on the show, overall.
While Friday Night Lights and The Wire are my faves, I do think something campy like Desperate Housewives or garbage like Grey's Anatomy would be better for the RTR. Of the two, I'd go w/ GA.

Read time reviews are not as fun if it's a show that's actually really good. If it's a show that's so bad you can't watch it all, the review is no good either. So, I vote for House. I personally love this show (major love for Hugh), but it's getting impossible to buy into the idea that he hasn't been fired yet.

I would love a RTR of House. Can we discuss the lack of range displayed in the female character's interactions with the rest of the cast, can we please? I love Hugh Laurie, but good god, those women are given absolutely nothing to do. Okay, I guess the secondary men are quite one-dimensional, too. But the ladies are reduced to sighing and saying "House!".
Also: Kid Nation. Because it's amazingly terrible yet addictive.
I'm loving the new seasons of The Office and 30 Rock, but agree that bad shows make a better RTR!

shelleyh: Unfortunately this diversion comes after "Rock of Love" is over with. I was so totally wishing for a weekly review after you did the first episode. That show was brilliant.
Excellent suggestion! "Rock of Love" may be over, but "I Love New York 2" is just gearing up! I think that would be PUURRRRR-FECT! =)
Too bad there's no more "Engaged and Underaged" anymore--nothing's funnier than watching two 18 year-old Mormons fight about whether or not the groom's non-Mormon mom can attend the wedding while the bride sobs in agony because they have to have a "ring ceremony" for the non-Mormon mom in addition to their huge Temple service because THAT'S NOT THE WEDDING SHE DREAMED OF AS A GIRL! AND IT'S HER DAY! AND NO ONE ELSE'S! AND HOW DARE YOU HAVE AN OPINION?
Ahem. Anyway, I hardcore vote for "I Love New York 2."
Posted by: AnnArrogance at October 9, 2007 5:36 PM
I make time to watch the goods shows...so what I could really use a real time review of is the *cutest child labor camp ever*-- Kid Nation.

First of all, have you stopped over to TWOP lately? They promised nothing would change with the big buy-out but lo and behold, a lot of cool shows have been dropeed and now they're reviewing all the NBC/Bravo crap (How I Met Your Mother? A better sit-com than most but still a formulaic sitcom, pauses to shake head in despair). They're still talented folk at TWOP, but it's the beginning of the end. Watch for increasingly lesser scathingness on the NBC shows the network is trying to push as this progesses. I feel betrayed.
Okay, vent over! House is a good candidate. Good show because there's good dialogue and Laurie is awesome but such preposterous plots, ones that shouldn't even be considered outside of a scifi department.

Americast Most Smartest Model- the new VH1 reality series, looks horrendously awesome.
Posted by: ryan at October 9, 2007 5:58 PM
Dexter - thankfully fills the Deadwood void
Pushing Daisies - what a treat
Bionic Woman - just for giggles - show sucks
Battlestar Galactica - what year does it come back? assholes
Posted by: Rene at October 9, 2007 6:00 PM
I vote for Moonlight! And I'm surprised no one else has suggested it. It's pretty terrible, so it would be amusing for us to read the recaps; but it wouldn't be that bad a chore for y'all to watch it, because it's so terrible it's fun to watch.
It's an Angel rip-off, but without the humor that made Angel fun; it takes itself way too seriously; and it started out with a stupid vampire mythology, which it realized was idiotic, so they made all these changes in the 2nd episode and just hoped all the viewers had suffered head injuries in the previous week and forgotten the pilot. And it's not being recapped by TWoP, so you wouldn't be treading on someone else's ground.

Favorite shows this year go something like; Dexter, Heroes (Noah and the Haitian together again?!?!? Damn right welcome to Copy Kingdom!!!), Californication, and It's Always Sunny...
But as far a a RTR, I'm all for Chuck. What I've seen I liked. Not to mention the fact that I will never turn my back on the Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne!
Posted by: Lunchbox at October 9, 2007 6:26 PM
Reaper, Supernatural or Dexter.
I also agree with everybody else that Gossip Girl and Moonlight would be undeniably hilarious.
Posted by: Eli at October 9, 2007 6:34 PM
As a fan of your "Oh My God This Is A Piece of Shit" reviews, I think Gossip Girl or The Hills would be hilarious (the two shows on tv I am least likely to watch).
Or, I'd be onboard for a Office review, just because its so fun to relive the eppisodes (and who really doesn't want to talke about Dwight?)
Posted by: Alyssa at October 9, 2007 6:38 PM
I agree that the best real time reviews that are those that are dripping in mockingly funny sarcasm. That being said, it would be an interesting challenge to do a real time review of something you actually like. I vote the Office. Also, really like Pushing Daisies last week. Hope it can keep up with it's own charm.
Posted by: Sarah at October 9, 2007 6:44 PM
Dexter and Pushing Daisies are by far my favorite shows of the new season.
Posted by: Alex at October 9, 2007 6:45 PM
I'm apparently in a total minority here, but I'm a big fan of Ugly Betty however, I think Desperate Housewives offers the best fodder for a real-time recap!
Posted by: Alarmjaguar at October 9, 2007 6:46 PM
Okay...I formally withdraw my suggestion for "Grey's Anatomy" and place in the running for next real time review "A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila." This show screams RTR. Please do this, pretty please do this one with sugar on top. This show has no redeeming value at all, so it deserves a scathing, bitchy real time review.
Posted by: Gigi Worthington at October 9, 2007 7:01 PM
1. Pushing Daisies (Can't wait for more episodes!)
2. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
3. Grey's Anatomy (just to see you shred it apart, basically...)
Posted by: Josh at October 9, 2007 7:02 PM
Did you do Gossip Girl already? I have a feeling I read something about on here. You need to do it to a show that is really awful so we can all have a laugh. Yes, torture yourself for our enjoyment, it'll only increase readership!

Old(er) show: Friday Night Lights
New comedy: Reaper (SO hilarious!)
New Drama: Journeyman

Friday Night Lights definitely. And it needs all the hype it can get.

instead of reviewing a show that everyone watches anyway, such as the office or it's always sunny in Phil... why not review a show that doesn't get watched, but should... something more along the lines of Friday Night Lights (now that it's truly on friday)... or Supernatural... but my biggest vote is gonna be DEXTER!...and that is my fav show of the season...DEXTER!...hmmm...love me some killer's serial killer...

PaddyDog, right there with ya. They took away one of my favorite forums, the Bitterness Fiesta. TBF was a place that all of us who were pissed at the direction and shoddy show running of Lost could go and be in similar company. I mourn it's loss.
If Lost or American Idol were currently airing, I would nominate those as well. I vote for a January RTR of AI. It is a soul killing pile of suck plus a side of crazy Paula "I'm not on drugs" Abdul.

Hey! A shoutout to the TWOP! Nice.
It has to be a bad sitcom or a good drama. Either "Caveman" or "Friday Night Lights". Maybe you can show us what we're missing.

Best of the new season: Pushing Daisies
Best ending now: Mad Men (why doesn't this show get more credit?)

Melody: I so feel your pain. I spent many a delightful hour lurking happily in the Bitterness Fiesta. And don't get me started on the sudden end to Jacob's amazing mind-blowing recaps of Doctor Who just as a new season opens. I'm itchin' for some kind of petition here!
Posted by: PaddyDog at October 9, 2007 8:48 PM
I am casting another vote for "Grey's" because that show is ridiculous.
Personally, I'd like to see some chop-sockey real time review action on "Brothers and Sisters" I was made to watch that show this weekend by someone who is an ardent fan. So I suffered in silence through the tripe, Sally Field's chomping on every morsel of scenery, and Calista's birdface.
Posted by: Alabamapink at October 9, 2007 9:18 PM
We don't have cable, so I can't make any suggestions, but PLEASE don't real-time The Office! I have to wait a full year before I can get my hands on Season 4 in its entirety and watch it all in one day (see: that time I watched all of Season 3 while I wrote a paper on Progress in the Victorian Era), and I know I could just NOT READ your real-times, but I love reading and hate not-reading. So I enter my plea for 'something else.'

Heroes is made for Pajiba.
New shows? Bionic Woman so you can make fun of Michelle Ryan and Isaiah Washington, and drool over Katee Sackhoff.
Posted by: Cindy at October 9, 2007 9:41 PM
Supernatural! they've really upped the cheese this season, makes for some tasty viewing.

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia
OR - Gossip Girl - it is AWESOMELY bad!

Cavemen. Definitely Cavemen. Please don't block future comments from this IP address. :)

How about doing a different show every time?
Posted by: sheriffpony at October 9, 2007 11:58 PM
Oh, please oh, please rip Grey's. Pretty please?
Posted by: demondoll at October 10, 2007 12:05 AM
Best new show: Pushing Daisies
Has potential: Chuck
I'm giving up on: Bionic woman
Life
Journeyman
You couldn't pay me to watch: Any of the networks' reality tv offerings, Any CBS comedy except for How I Met Your Mother, any ABC drama
Still watching: NBC Thursday comedies, Friday Night Lights, House, Heroes, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Posted by: Nate at October 10, 2007 12:13 AM
South Park - the preview for tomorrow's episode shows Randy Marsh (one of the greatest characters in television history) taking a crap and commenting on how big it is.
Come on. That review is going to write itself, and write itself hilariously.
I'm not really sure I want to read about some of my other favorite shows. I think reading about some crappy show like Grey's Anatomy would be more entertaining. But that would suck for the person who has to watch it and critique it.
So I guess just South Park and maybe something like Heroes, Reaper, or My Name is Earl.
Posted by: Dave at October 10, 2007 12:17 AM
dave, i`m with you regarding SOUTH PARK, TURDS TOURETTES, IT`S ENDLESS FUN. LOST if the fucker ever comes back.Cops and Cheaters always deliver also.Watching the Lakers lose again PRICELESS!

Gossip Girl...so bad it's good.
Posted by: Rachel at October 10, 2007 12:38 AM
shellyh and AnnArogance, I am so with you on I Love New York 2! I of course agree with nominations like "The Office" and "Always Sunny...." but, lets get real people. We want scathing, squirmy recaps. We want to remember why we are all smarter, funnier and probably better looking than all of reality television. Nothing reminds us smug Pajibans of this fact better than trainwrecks like "I Love NY". I say celebrate it.
Posted by: Finn at October 10, 2007 1:35 AM
I think Dexter would be a most splendid choice.
Posted by: Lola at October 10, 2007 1:35 AM
TK, you're an evil, evil individual for suggesting My Super Sweet Sixteen. And I love you for it. That show genuinely makes me angry when I happen to stumble across it while idly flicking channels.
Posted by: dillthedevil at October 10, 2007 3:54 AM
What about a different show each week? Unleash the mean on the maxium number of shows possible.
Otherwise Supernatual for me too.
Posted by: Pencil at October 10, 2007 8:21 AM
I vote for Grey's Anatomy. It was never great television, but it has devolved into a horrific mess. Don't waste the snark on a good show!
Add me to the list of TWOP mourners - being bought by Bravo was like a knife to the heart. I was obsessive about visiting it daily and now I barely view the site anymore. Jacob's review of Serenity still makes me sigh.
Posted by: Marianne at October 10, 2007 9:20 AM
Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I would LOVE some running commentary on that.
Posted by: Catherine at October 10, 2007 9:45 AM
Marianne: I couldn't agree more. If there were Nobel prizes for TV-recaps, Jacob would be in Stockholm right now. He will be wasted at the newly mutated TWOP

3 words...
Monday Night Raw.
Imagining the wit makes me pee a little.
Posted by: PissBoy at October 10, 2007 10:06 AM
I'm sticking with Bionic Woman for now, but I really like Journeyman, Reaper and Chuck. On the returning front, The Office is as great as ever and the premiere of South Park was so wrong and yet so very good.
I vote for trash VH1 Celebreality programming for the real-time treatment. While I admit I enjoy The Surreal Life, all those "celebrity" dating shows beg to be eviscerated.
Posted by: Rob at October 10, 2007 10:32 AM
How about showing "Tales of the Gold Monkey" some real-time reviewing love?
Holy schniekes! I thought I was the only one that remembered that show!
Posted by: Gus at October 10, 2007 10:50 AM
As for the real time review, I agree with those that say "pick a crap show".
Law and Order: SVU: it's so awful and yet the lead actress (Mariska something or other) is always nominated for awards? For WHAT? But I digress.
And for new shows that I like, I have to say I haven't found anything new that I've adopted into my fold of shows. I'm still thinking about liking "Kitchen Nightmares" but it's not as good as "Hell's Kitchen". I tried "Kid Nation" and I hated it. It's so boring I had to pinch myself to stay awake. The new NBC offerings (comedy and drama) all leave me cold (not even interested in watching them once).
For my t.v. viewing, I'll stick to my Thursday night line up. "My Name is Earl", "30 Rock", and "The Office". Then if I want to have a REAL laugh, "ER". (maybe a real time review of "ER" would be good?)
Posted by: MadameUgly at October 10, 2007 11:11 AM
I have to disagree, I honestly don't see anything different in the new TWOP-to me they've just added more shows whose recaps I can't wait to read. I do miss the old layout though, the new one is so Bravo.com.
Marianne: Jacob is a god. His Serenity, Battlestar Galactica, and The Office recaps are of the most well written pieces ever featured on the site.
Posted by: Julie at October 10, 2007 12:53 PM
Kid Nation gets my vote. Really a great show. Definitely a neat social experiment.
Posted by: Sammaji at October 10, 2007 1:56 PM
ughhhh why does everyone like pushing daisies. there is such a thing as "too quirky."
a weekly real-time review on a one-note terrible show (cavemen, csi, chuck, i love new york) would get stale. a weekly real-time review on a genuinely great show (it's always sunny, the office [though it's getting old], friday night lights) would not be fun enough.
so by my estimate, the ones that lie in the middle that could generate hilariousness and weekly authentic intrigue are:
-heroes [love the show, but it's often easy to make fun of]
-gossip girl [it's making fun of itself every week in new and exciting ways]
-pushing daisies [as long as you people can realize the pratfalls to this show (more big fish is not a good thing) in addition to praising its cutesiness]
-dexter [great characters, terrible dialogue/narration]
Posted by: vinniedelpino at October 10, 2007 3:50 PM
1. It's Always Sunny
2. The Office
3. 30 Rock
4. House, M.D. (my favorite show but probably the least interesting real time review, I'll be honest)
Posted by: Kash at October 10, 2007 5:38 PM
Or Supernatural.
I loooooove me some Sam and Dean and I'd really like to hear what the Pajiba crew thinks of it. Besides the obvious awesomeness.
Posted by: Kash at October 10, 2007 5:40 PM
My Super Sweet Sixteen ftw!
Seriously tho, Dexter would be phenomenal.
Posted by: Smokin at October 10, 2007 5:56 PM
I agree with a few of the commenters - pick a truly awful and yet curiously popular show! My vote goes for whatever this season's Laguna Beach is (Newport? The Hills? Who can tell since everyone had the same over-accessorized and vacuous look). Besides, aren't clique-y high school brats with too much time and money the epitome of bitchiness? Oooh, the drama!
Posted by: purleygirl at October 10, 2007 7:09 PM
i have to say, antm or gossip girl are the only true choices for real time reviews. what else could you want to compulsively watch but the cw?
Posted by: mags at October 10, 2007 8:19 PM
I think you should Real Time Review Beauty and the Geek. The show is so awkward and funny, and there was a romance in the house and the female of the pair just got the boot. I love this show, it is one of the only reality tv shows I can watch. It is so amazing how dumb some of the beauties are and how socially inept some of the geeks are. Please check out Beauty and the Geek.
One of my favorite new shows is Burn Notice. It aired over the summer, but it was like a spy version of McGyver. It was sooo cool; a few of the final episodes starting showing some huge plot holes, but it was still a whole lot of fun. I highly recommed getting or at least Netflixing the dvd when it comes out.
Posted by: lickoriche at October 11, 2007 5:33 PM
The reality shows are best suited for Real Time Reviews. I would suggest Kitchen Nightmares because there is so much gold to be mined with these insane restaurant people and Gordon Ramsey yelling obscenities at them. When Project Runway comes on that would be a fun show to Real Time.
For non-reality, CSI:Miami is so over-the-top recockulous that it begs to be mocked.
Posted by: JP at October 12, 2007 7:50 PM
I'm voting for caveman. You'd think that means I don't like you, but I'm really just a visual sadist.
Posted by: altan at October 15, 2007 7:10 PM
Oh - I know, I know.
Maybe you should do something on the Red Sox run for the World Series ... err, wait, scratch that. Nevermind, I'll get back to you.
