Trump Begins the Morning with an Anti-Obama Screed, Accusing Him of Collusion

Yesterday, after accusing Hillary Clinton of “colluding” with the Democratic party to oust Bernie Sanders, Trump was back at it this morning with another round of accusations. Now he’s accusing President Obama of colluding or obstructing with the … Russians? Here’s his tweets in paragraph form:

“The reason that President Obama did NOTHING about Russia after being notified by the CIA of meddling is that he expected Clinton would win… and did not want to “rock the boat.” He didn’t “choke,” he colluded or obstructed, and it did the Dems and Crooked Hillary no good. The real story is that President Obama did NOTHING after being informed in August about Russian meddling. With 4 months looking at Russia… under a magnifying glass, they have zero “tapes” of T people colluding. There is no collusion & no obstruction. I should be given apology!”

OK, first of all: The DNC is a private entity. It is not an adversarial foreign government. It can collude with whomever the hell it wants, and while an effort to boost the establishment candidate over a self-described socialist may have seemed unfair to Bernie Sanders and his supporters, it’s not illegal.

As for President Obama? Trump is not entirely wrong about the fact that Obama did nothing, and he’s not wrong to say that Obama’s inaction hurt Hillary Clinton. But again, President Obama was put in an incredibly sh*tty position by Donald Trump himself. What would have happened if Obama had pushed sanctions before the election instead of after? Hillary might have won, but Trump and his supporters would’ve spent the next four years claiming that Obama rigged the election for Hillary. It would’ve been untenable. It would’ve have torn this country apart even more than it already is.

The entire Republican party would’ve claimed that Hillary was an illegitimate President. Recall that Obama did want to be more vocal about the Russian interference, but that asshole Mitch McConnell told Obama that if he did, McConnell would politicize the hell out of it, and claim Obama was interfering in the election for Clinton. My guess is that it would have hurt Clinton more than it would have helped. After all, Clinton was out there telling everyone who would listen that the Russians were interfering, and that Trump was the beneficiary of it, but no one would fucking listen because everyone assumed she was playing politics. Why would they have felt anything differently had Obama done the same?

I really wish the Senate Intelligence Committee would call President Obama and force him to explain his reasoning.

In either respect, it’s not collusion, unless Trump believes that Obama colluded with the Russians through inaction to allow Trump to become President. It’s a supremely twisted logic, but of course, Trump doesn’t expect anyone to unpack the inferences, and his supporters obviously will not.

Whatever. Trump is lashing out again, and the more he does so — the the bigger his reaches (like trying to throw “collusion” and “obstruction” back on Obama and Hillary), the more defensive and guilty he looks. We already know he has transference issues.

What’s the man hiding? And what is Mueller finding by following the money trail?

Meanwhile, Trump — who has full knowledge of the Russian meddling now — is doing absolutely nothing to curb it. Nothing. He’s ignoring it. He’s trying to water down sanctions against Russia, and to the dismay of his own aides, he’s eager to meet with Vladimir Putin next month.

It’s pathetically transparent. Whether Trump officially colluded with the Russians or not, he was the beneficiary of their meddling, and I’m sure he’s eager to thank them again in the hopes that the Russians will continue to back his party in 2018 and his reelection campaign in 2020.
