The White House and Donald Trump Weigh in On Kanye's 2020 Presidential Bid

In case you missed it, Kanye West — in typical Kanye fashion — announced that he’d be running for President in 2020 at the Video Music Awards on Sunday.

“I don’t know what I finna lose after this,” he said. “It don’t matter, though; It’s not about me. It’s about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth/ And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”

Kanye later admitted that he smoked a little something before the show to take the edge off, so it’s hard to say how serious he was, but in a year in which Donald Trump is not only running for President — but currently ahead in the polls — is it really that farfetched to believe that Kanye might run?

I’d vote for him before Trump (in fact, so would Alec Baldwin).

Speaking of Trump, he weighed in on Kanye’s potential bid, and he was, per usual, full of shit (via Rolling Stone):

“I said, ‘That’s very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea,’” Trump stated, adding, “He’s said very nice things about me in the past… extremely positive things. He’s actually a different kind of person than people think. He’s a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday.”

I can find no evidence of Kanye speaking kindly of Trump, but I wouldn’t dispute the notion. After all, the two do have a lot in common.

Meanwhile, the White House press secretary also weighed in on Kanye’s bid, because how could he not (plus, it was an opportunity to take a veiled shot at Trump) (via USA Today):

“Let me just say I look forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat,” Earnest told reporters aboard Air Force One Monday — an apparent reference to Republican candidate Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign hats.

As always, when we think about Trump’s campaign to make America great again, we must remind ourselves of this irony:

TL;DR: Trump’s the worst, Kanye’s is an insane genius whose heart is in the right place, and Obama’s got good people on staff.
