This will be a relatively brief Morning Briefing, because there’s not a lot going on politically (which is OK!). News orgs are mostly picking apart Steve Bannon’s interview from Sunday night (having been knocked off front pages by Irma yesterday), but we’ve already gone through it. I’m still trying to decide if it matters, because I’m not that sure that Bannon matters that much anymore. I think something I heard on Morning Joe this morning was about right: Bannon and Breitbart have enough sway to effect House races in conservative areas, but that’s about it.
Anyway, who cares? Bannon. Blah blah blah TED CRUZ LIKED A PORN POST ON TWITTER. His comms director said the tweet has been removed, but does not indicate how that tweet got there.
The offensive tweet posted on @tedcruz account earlier has been removed by staff and reported to Twitter

Maybe it was an intern, huh? (This tweet is from years ago, but there’s a Trump tweet for everything).
The young intern who accidentally did a Retweet apologizes.

Idk why, but Ted Cruz looking for porn on Twitter instead of an actual porn site is the most Ted Cruz thing I've ever heard.

I can't be the only one unable to sleep tonight because Ted Cruz cranked his hog on Twitter on 9/11.

— Moving on: Hope Hicks has been promoted from interim Communications Director to permanent Communications Director. I mean, Trump hasn’t expressed public support for white nationalists in, like, three weeks! That’s a win!
In fact, Trump has been uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter lately, although he did take issue this morning with the fact that people apparently write books and articles about a President of the United States.
Fascinating to watch people writing books and major articles about me and yet they know nothing about me & have zero access. #FAKE NEWS!

— Finally, we haven’t talked about Russia that much lately, but do know that the wheels are still moving along. Slowly, but surely, Robert Mueller is methodically building his case. We know that West Wing aides are being interviewed. We know that Mueller is paying special attention to the obstruction of justice charges, and that he’s going deep into the financial stuff, particularly where it concerns Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen and that deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. The fact that Trump’s lawyers considered ousting Kushner over his many, many connections to Russia is not helping matters, either.
In either respect, don’t worry about Russia. Mueller has got our back. If there’s a case to be made, Mueller is gonna make it.
