Welcome to our live blog of the James Comey hearing, which is less a live blog and more just a place for all of you to talk amongst each other and share your feelings in the comments. This feels weird. But also, strangely necessary.

I may weigh in periodically with a thought or two, or an insightful tweet, but mostly, I’ll be watching the hearing along with the rest of you and reading your comments. We will try to continue along as usual on the rest of the site today, but I suspect for many of you, your attention will be focused here. Also, if anyone is brave enough to watch this on Fox News, I’d love to hear what they’re saying.

If you’re not near a television, you can watch the hearing live here or here:

——————

— Paul Ryan again defending the President’s ignorance.

— Roy Blunt is a national embarrassment.

— “Why would you kick out the Attorney General, the Chief of Staff, etc.” unless you were going to say something significant.

— Uh huh.

— Comey aware of facts before Sessions’ recusal that he can’t speak to in an open forum that would have made it difficult for Sessions to continue on in the Russia investigation. Hmmmm.

— “I have seen the tweet about the tapes. Lordy, I hope there are tapes.”

— Do you believe the Russia investigation played a role in why you were fired? “Yes, because I have seen the President say so.”

— “I believe I was fired because of the Russia investigation.”

— On that February 14th meeting, Comey had the sense that Sessions hung around and lingered because he knew it wasn’t OK for Trump and Comey to meet alone. Kushner, too.

— Comey kept notes because he was “concerned” that Trump would “lie” about their encounters. “I knew that there would become a day when I would need to defend myself and the FBI.”

— Comey says he can’t answer questions about the Steele dossier in open session, mostly likely because there are things in there that are true. (PEE!)

— Comey: “I don’t think it’s for me to say whether the conversation with the president was an effort to obstruct. I found it very disturbing.”

— “The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is and always will be independent.” Comey’s coming at the POTUS.

— We’ve already got our first denial, before the testimony has even begun.
