It wasn’t easy following Cory Booker and Michelle Obama last night at the DNC, but Bernie Sanders gave one hell of a speech. I know that the intent of that speech was to unite the Bernie voters behind Hillary Clinton, but it did much more than that: It united Hillary voters (like myself) under Bernie’s platform.
Before this Presidential campaign started, I was a big fan of Bernie Sanders, and I’ve always favored his progressive policies. However, Bernie was never really a Democrat. From 1979 until 2015, he ran as an Independent who caucused with the Democrats. Now, after that speech, I feel like he’s a full-fledged member of the Democratic Party, and I am proud as hell to have him. I legitimately want Hillary to enact everything Bernie Sanders campaigned for in this election, and while I sincerely hope that the Bernie voters all line up behind Hillary Clinton, after the election, I hope they also keep her feet to the fire to ensure that the revolution Bernie started continues. Bernie may not personally be the future of the party, but his policies (hopefully) will be. There is not one thing on his agenda that I do not believe in.
Anyway, after days of taunting Bernie Sanders, courting Bernie Sanders’ voters, and then lashing out at Bernie Sanders’ voters, Bernie Sanders finally stepped in and responded to Donald Trump’s schizophrenia last night. Trump remained mostly quiet throughout the night (because if he’d dared to criticize Michelle Obama’s speech, he’d have alienated the planet), but he did go after Cory Booker inexplicably and nonsensically:
If Cory Booker is the future of the Democratic Party, they have no future! I know more about Cory than he knows about himself.

He also criticized Bernie again, repeating the themes of his earlier tweets:
Sad to watch Bernie Sanders abandon his revolution. We welcome all voters who want to fix our rigged system and bring back our jobs.

Bernie Sanders totally sold out to Crooked Hillary Clinton. All of that work, energy and money, and nothing to show for it! Waste of time.

Bernie, however, wasn’t having it.

That was Bernie basically saying, and I’m paraphrasing: “Go fuck yourself, Trump. You can’t have my voters, but they’re not dumb enough to vote against everything I stand for. Now climb up my ass and die.”
It’s also worth noting that Bernie nearly didn’t get to make that speech last night.

God bless, Bernie.
