The New Yorker cover this week depicts Trump as a beauty queen, and I think it belongs in the same category as those naked Trump statues that got so much flak for body-shaming. Like, I see what they’re going for, and it’s the degree of satire they want it to be, but ultimately, seems to miss the point most of us are focusing on. (Celebitchy)

A reminder that the best way to protect your love of your favorite characters is to know absolutely nothing about the actors who play them. This, brought to you by Melissa Joan Hart chairing Gary Johnson’s Connecticut campaign. Yes, Gary Johnson who didn’t know what Aleppo was and can’t name one (NOT ONE!) foreign leader he respects. Explain that, Clarissa. (H/T to keh_squared) (People)

Normally, it bugs me when people trash celebrities for being political, as if they don’t have the right to be as politically vocal as the rest of us. But then Madonna tries out her Photoshop skills or Sean Penn opens his mouth and I rethink that entire stance. (The Superficial)

It’s been a revolutionary year in how Marvel finally started to do right by its black characters. This piece is a deep dive, and it’s fantastic. (Vanity Fair)

Oh this poor man.

Every single one of these is SPOT ON: 15 Shakespeare plays, summed up in a single GIF each. (Wonder of Will)

Sad news: Adventure Time is coming to an end. (Daily Dot)

Do we need to talk about Pepe the Frog? Maybe we need to talk about Pepe the Frog. (NPR)

Maybe the least realistic thing about Jurassic World was the lack of people trying to do weird sex stuff at the dinosaurs. (Jezebel)

Have you started this season of Transparent yet? I binged it all last weekend, making for a pretty depressing weekend, really. I’ll get some more thoughts up around these parts eventually, but in the meantime, here’s an awesome roundtable discussion with the show’s trans actors, writers, and producers. (Vulture)

There are masterpieces and classics on the ALA’s Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books Lists of the 21st Century, but what if the banned book is, in itself, terrible? Welcome to Fifty Shades of Grey. #2 on the 2015 list might indeed be crap, but it led to TyburnBlossom’s hysterical five-star liveblog and drinking game. Come check out the review and let us know what your inner goddess thinks. (Cannonball Read 8)
