Which Of These Phenomenal Young Actors Will Debase Themselves To Play John McClane Jr. In Die H5rd?

We Pajiban writers are a little divided on where the Die Hard franchise ought to have stopped. Some say two, some say three. Everyone agrees that four was an exploding bridge too far (oh yes, even with The Olyphant). And now with five, we’ve all just thrown up our hands in disgust. Yipee ki yay, mother f*cker. So no, no I do not want to see it. I don’t care if you cast Aaron Paul, do you hear me? NOT EVEN BEN FOSTER WILL TEMPT ME. Okay Ben Foster might tempt me. (/Film)

That being said (shouted) this Seussian take on the dumb A Good Day To Die Hard title is pretty cute. From /Film reader Jeremy Todd:

You know I don’t do sports, so I’m not personally vouching for this Grantland piece on the collapse of the Red Sox, but D-Day sent it my way and it’s written by Michael Schur of “Parks and Recreation” fame. (Grantland)

D-Day also sent me this article on swanky iPhone cases because he knows how excited I am for mine to arrive. LOOK AT THE BOOK ONE! (App Advice)

Another sports-ish link comes from S0crates-Johnson. Some wack-a-doodle was inspired by Ryan Gosling’s Drive to, um, throw a hot dog at Tiger Woods? Also, said wack-a-doodle come from my neck of the woods so no doubt he was stoned out of his tiny mind. Caution, there is an ad with sound on this site. (ESPN)

I learned yesterday from a commenter that this is emphatically NOT a Venn Diagram. What it is, I guess, is a charming visual representation of the differences between Zombies, Robots and Aliens. With overlapping circles. Why isn’t this a Venn Diagram again? Because there are three? (Braeburn)

You commenters ARE very clever and knowledgable. Did you know that one of the comment threads from Reddit is being turned into a film? Come on guys, we can totally out smart those asses. (Film School Rejects)

I also have faith that you are clever enough to come up with a new name for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s radio observatory in New Mexico. Right now? It’s called The Very Large Array. Which is what I prefer to call Sofia Vergara’s rack. They’re taking suggestions. (Boing Boing

Here’s an infographic breakdown of the top 10 filming location. Ugh, Canadians, always stealing our jobs. (Wistia)

For “Game of Thrones” fans, check out this local pet shop poster. I guffawed. (Geeks Are Sexy)

I’ve never particularly disliked Very Pretty Taylor Swift. I’ve felt rather indifferent. But now that I know she donated 6,000 books to a Pennsylvania library as part of an ongoing plan to bail out libraries in need? I kind of love her. (Celebitchy)

You guys like JGL, right? I think I heard that you did. And some of you still like Anne Hathaway, yes? Well here they both are. Singing. IN FRENCH. There’s a lot of banter before they get to the sexy french singing, but it’s worth it. I promise you.

The GoT spaying thing is just genius.

Joanna, if you would just finally watch Breaking Bad you would see Aaron Paul's genius and you would beg him not to soil his good name by being a part of the next Die Hard.

I don't get the GoT spaying thing.

My hubby is a professional astronomer, and there's nothing wrong with the VLA. They should not rename it. It describes it perfectly. Still, doesn't hurt for a little publicity does it?

Don't you need Summer to rip out strangers' throats, though? I guess if he's still in tune with those that Bran deems an enemy, throat-ripping can still occur. And, yes, while we're on the topic of dissecting that sign, Summer is male. (Still, I dug it.)

Why isn't that a Venn diagram? Because those are characteristics of set members as opposed to members of the set? If that's the problem, I'd let it slide.

And regarding trying to write the heir apparent to John McClane into the story as his son: did we learn nothing from the Crystal Skull abomination? Let Die Hard go.

As a redditor I'm tempted to link to this comment on reddit for the chaos it would bring (but mostly for the karma).

I always felt like just calling a very large array the Very Large Array was funny enough.

Posted by: pxilated at October 14, 2011 3:30 PM

Maybe get THX to pick up the tab on the Very Large Array going forward and just give it a new tagline/slogan: "The Earth is listening."

@BWeaves
It's a pun on "A Lannister always pays his debts", an often repeated phrase in Game of Thrones.

Posted by: Blake Shrapnel at October 14, 2011 3:44 PM

Bullshit! My 7 years in college taught me that is a venn diagrahm.

Posted by: Roland at October 14, 2011 3:44 PM

Right now? It’s called The Very Large Array.

R.O.U.S. (aRray Of Unusual Size)?

They make a great couple. If JGL and AH got married would they be the most versatile couple in Hollywood ever?

Today your jobs (jerbs?), tomorrow the Murdertank!

Also, Aaron Paul has what I call an IMAX forehead.

Uriah...you are so right! To quote Tiny Elvis, "Man, that suckah's HUGE!" (Anyone remember Tiny Elvis? I miss him.)

Posted by: BitterKitten at October 15, 2011 7:40 PM

"That's right Tiny E, that is one big forehead!"

I'll never forget Tiny Elvis.
