I can’t believe anyone would bash on the mup-oh. Frank Oz? The most famous living Muppeteer? Damn. “I wasn’t happy with the script, I don’t think they respected the characters. But I don’t want to go on about it like a sourpuss and hurt the movie.” (THR)

Speaking of the muppets, here they are zombified. They’re still pretty cute. (Curious Brain)

And while we’re on the subject of zombies, here’s a Disney take. (Neatorama)

A couple more Halloween costume idea sites for you all. This one features film costumes you can cobble together at your local thrift store. (Found Item Clothing) And here is a list of “High Concept, Low Effort” costumes. I like the low effort part. (io9)

Have you all carved your pumpkins yet? I did some Halloween crafts last night. Here are some ridiculously cool jack-o-lanters that are sure to make you feel like an untalented hack. (FlavorWire)

And one last Halloween link for today, a charming infographic on identifying vampires. Scroll all the way to the end for the payoff. (Society 6)

And now for something completely different. Apparently TSA found an, ahem, personal item in a blogger’s suitcase. And decided to be d*cks about it. (Feministe)

Speaking of d*cks, am I missing something, or is “Breaking Bad” entirely populated by horrible people? Anyway, I’m watching it because You People told me to. Here’s a tumblr mashing up “Breaking Bad” and Parks and Recreation.” If you’re into that sort of thing. (Parks and Meth)

Halloween is almost upon us, so I’ll stop with the pumpkins and the vampirism. But then it’ll the The Holidays, and you’ll be in real trouble. I love The Holidays. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are releasing a Holiday album that you can pre-order today. OH I WILL. (She & Him)

FSR has a fantastic list of 8 films made for under one million dollars. One of my all-time favorites, Brick is on there. (FSR)

In case you were wondering if this OCCUPY movement has legs, here are 11 American Uprisings That Changed The World. (Alternet)

Do you visit The Curious Brain? You should. They have the most glorious stuff. Here is a gallery of superhero posters that are to die for. Yes, even that heroic assface Cyclops gets a beautiful poster. (Curious Brain)

I wasn’t awfully excited for the new Spider-Man movie, but now I’m rather thrilled. Check out the villainous Rhys Ifans as he debuts his Lizard voice. Beats the pants of Bale’s Batman growl.

Finally, Harry Jackson, the guitarist in Mini Band (the teeny tiny kids who rocked Metallica) has been at it for awhile. Here is a compilation of him doing his thing, from ages 6 to 8.

No, you're not missing something. BB is full of jerks. Worth it for the acting, though. Trejooooooooooo!!!111!

I like Zooey Deschanel just fine, but if I have to hear her sing one more time I'll lose it. That cotton commercial makes me want to slit my wrists.

or is “Breaking Bad” entirely populated by horrible people?

Why do you think I gave up on "Mad Men" after three episodes?

What Kind Of Cynical Asshole Do You Have To Be To Hate On The New Muppet Movie?

An Oz-hole.

Posted by: mswas at October 24, 2011 1:43 PM

Joking aside, I appreciate Oz's comments, as well as his brevity.

Posted by: mswas at October 24, 2011 1:45 PM

You can always pick out the people who don't read X-Men comics.
They never think Cyclops is awesome.

They're wrong.

You. Are wrong.
Joanna Robinson, to call him an ass-face. You're an ass-face, ass-face.

Oh, did I make you cry? Here, use this tissue.
Better yet, use this toilet paper on your ass. face.

is “Breaking Bad” entirely populated by horrible people?
Yes. That ain't the point, okay? Keep watching.

And as for Frank Oz? The man who, every time he is given the opportunity to direct a movie, makes a shitty mess out of it? The man who obviously wouldn't know a good script if it stuffed its forearm up his backside? I don't give a rip for his opinion of the script.

I've read more than my fair share of X-Men comics (like, almost all of them, and, seriously, I should've stopped reading them years ago), and I can definitely say with absolutely no remorse: Cyclops is an ass-face. At least, he has been since Jean died. The first time.

Also...

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward are releasing a Holiday album that you can pre-order today.

SQUE-- Oh. Right. Ahem.

RAD. ASS.

That was quite a hissy fit Superasente. Well played.

Joanna,

I won't proselytize for Breaking Bad, I'll just say it is very dark, but if you get as far as Saul Goodman you're in the clear.

Kisses,
Mrs. Julien

If I don't have someone relatable or someone to root for in a story it's just unpleasant. I'm a sponge for tension and unpleasantness, and if I'd be uncomfortable in the same room then I'm uncomfortable watching on a TV. It's just no fun. "Cringe Comedy" falls under that too, as well as, say, Three's Company and The Surreal Life (though I did watch the last episode of that male stripper show for the touching climax when the last guy got cut out of the show and his brother strippers demanded he be at the premiere with them).

"The Wire" almost made me quit a few times and I certainly took some breaks. It fought me.

Posted by: Jay at October 24, 2011 2:48 PM

Here's why Cyclops is awesome.

Saul Goodman makes that whole show for me.

Posted by: TWoPFan at October 24, 2011 2:57 PM

Yeah, if you think breaking bad is full of jerks now...um, it gets worse. BUT, Aaron paul's character and acting get better and better. And omg the chicken man!

Posted by: Birj at October 24, 2011 3:00 PM

@Jay - Yeah, I've definitely thought the same thing about Mad Men, and yet the characters are so well crafted that it draws me in. I don't think I particularly like any of them. Well, maybe Trudy. She seems like she's the only genuinely good-willed person on the show.

I honestly can't decide if Dr. Teeth is scarier as a zombie or in his regular persona. Swedish Chef is creepy as hell though. Bjork, bjork, braaaaaaiinnssss.

Do do, do do do

Oh man. Bob Odenkirk and Pollos Guy are running that joint. I'm so glad Odenkirk, in particular, is doing so well on TV. He's always playing normal dudes (Breaking Bad, How I Met Your Mother) who are delightfully Odenkirk-ish. Which is to say, weird.
The other guy looks like he could turn just a little bit and fry you with his glasses. And he would.

Posted by: Alabaster Salamander at October 24, 2011 4:44 PM

I know what Jay's talking about. I almost quit on Mad Men too (I bought the DVD of the 1st season). It was bumming me out. But then about episode 4 or 5, shit starts turning, and the casually sexist, racist white guys start looking a lot less sure of themselves as you get more and more peeks behind the curtain, so to speak. I have yet to finish the 1st season (what? I'm busy), but I intend to pretty soon. Then I will reassess if I need to proceed to the next season (because sometimes a show is good, but not good enough to spend the time on).

I have also purchased the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad, and have yet to watch any of it. But I figure at the very least, Walter has to be worth watching.

That's supposed to be Cyclops? Looks like Bender in Cylon-mode to me.

The comments on that Feministe post are pretty funny. I imagine the TSA agents get to see all sorts of fun items during the average work day. I'd like to think I too would have a sense of humor about it if I got a note like that lady did.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at October 24, 2011 7:48 PM

Yeah, if Frank says it sucks, it sucks. He IS the muppets. Fozzy. Miss Piggy. Rowlf. Animal. I'm sure Jim Henson would have been right there with him. BTW Oz hasn't even done the muppets in like 10 years, it's all done by fake voice imitators. Boo.

Bright side : this music video for Halloween featuring shot loads of people freaking out at a haunted house.

The new Muppet movie is such a delicate balance. I want it to be good so very much, but I'm afraid to hope. I think I finally know how it feels for all of the uberfans of whatever comic book hero movie is coming out.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at October 24, 2011 8:33 PM

What I am trying to understand is how this new Muppet movie is somehow disrespectful or cheap when we had a decade and a half of "muppets in space" and "muppet treasure island"

Posted by: Jason Harris at October 24, 2011 9:21 PM

I had been thinking that very thing, Tracer.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at October 25, 2011 10:27 AM

I'm still holding out hope for the Muppet Movie. It's Jason Segal and Muppets! I also just read where Frank Oz loved, loved, loved Jar Jar Binks so he's clearly not a bastion of great taste.
