We movie bloggers love our lists. And we link wenches love linking to those lists. It’s an easy, lazy cycle. However, I SWORE I wasn’t going link to this 19 Most Beautiful Movies Ever Made post if it didn’t mention a certain film. That film was number one, baby. (On this one too.) Have you seen it yet? (Pop Crunch)

Also staggering, this silkscreen poster for The Birds. Hell, I don’t even like that movie (but what up, Bodega Bay?) and I’d get this poster. (Alien Corset)

You want to talk gorgeous? Check out this image of the recent lunar eclipse. Try to revel in its beauty and not think about how it would look on a shirt with three wolves, okay? (APOD)

Oh god, some Chinese guards roughed up Christian Bale. Presumably because he walked across their shot. (NYT)

tamatha sent me this wonderful story about a pair of twins, one of whom is transgendered. It’s…it’s really sweet okay? (Boston Globe)

I need something aggressive after the treacle of that last article. Ahhh, yes, these slicey knife cufflinks will do nicely. (Like Cool)

Speaking of aggressive, check out Edith Head’s bossy instructions on what to wear at the 1968 Oscars. (MovieLine)

Okay, speaking of dressing up, who’s cuter in their Christmas outfit? Baby Jack Skellington? (Fashionably Geek)

Or Sean Bean? (Nerd Approved)

Ah, perhaps you prefer your handsome male actors stark naked. Well, then, here are 2011’s Shirtless Movie Moments. Jason Momammaries! (Buzz Sugar)

In case you weren’t already upset that you missed last night’s LACMA reading of The Princess Bride, one of our readers tweeted the following: “Surprise guests at LACMA Princess Bride: Cary Elwes as Humperdinck, Fred Savage as The Boy, and ROB REINER as the Grandfather!!!” I would LOVE to have seen Elwes in that role. And because I angered you all with that Fillion comment yesterday (I’d still hit that, for the record), I am not weighing in on the Elwes situation.

Speaking of actors I love, here is the always charming Albert Brooks on his Golden Globe nomination. How they could nominate him and not Ry-nevermind. Not going there. The interview is adorable. (NY Mag)

One of the smartest men writing today, Christopher Hitchens, passed away yesterday at the age of 62. I didn’t agree with the man’s politics, but he was completely brilliant. RIP. (Slate) and (NPR)

And while it should be no surprise, given that change is one of the constants on “Doctor Who,” BBC announced that Amy and Rory Pond will be leaving the TARDIS sometime next season. To be honest, I thought we had already sort of said goodbye to them this season. (Bleeding Cool)

Speaking of British TV I Love, check out this awesome League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I tell you this right now, I would read a “Luther” comic. (Etsy)

Finally, this has been making the rounds, so you’ve likely seen it. But I’d watch it again and again, if I were you. I’m not sure how long it will last. Bill Watterson gets testy about these things. A VERY CALVIN & HOBBES SLAUGHTERMAS! Enjoy.

So we're still not actually done with Amy? Please don't get my hopes up like that anymore.

SMOCK!

I wonder, does Fred still have that Bears t-shirt from the movie? As awesome as attending the event may have been, I would pay for the plane ticket just to see him try and squeeze back into that thing.

Posted by: Socrates_Johnson at December 16, 2011 2:22 PM

That Calvin and Hobbes tribute made me very happy. Such sick and twisted joy I get from those snowmen. :)

Posted by: Bob Frapples at December 16, 2011 2:41 PM

Rory, dear boy you may stay. I know you won't, but just so you know, you are welcome back anytime.

Pond...don't let the TARDIS doors hit you in arse on the way out. I wouldn't have been nearly as curt with you, but after your uncalled for weekly pre-intro narration, you should be thankful many of us don't eject your ginger locks into the nearest supernova. Her time was over when she literally jumped a flying shark with a space liner. But I digress.

Whoever replaces her will have the advantage of likely not being any worse. So even if they half-ass the effort, they could go down as being one of the better crew members. Harsh? Perhaps. I cannot put all the blame on Karen, some of it lands squarely on Moffat and company. Even so, the changing of the guard has long been overdue.

Posted by: bleujayone at December 16, 2011 2:42 PM

The next Tardis crew should be the Doctor, Rory, Mickey, and Jack. IT'S MALE BONDING TIME!

Posted by: Socrates_Johnson at December 16, 2011 2:45 PM

The only thing I can possibly love more than a redhead with legs like Amy Pond's is that snowman video. Oh how I will share that with all those I love!!

Posted by: Fredo at December 16, 2011 2:49 PM

but after your uncalled for weekly pre-intro narration

Then why'd you watch the American version, silly?

Actually, why do you watch it at all?

Jeepers.

I have never been so profoundly affected by the death of someone I didn't know. (This was a comment diversion awhile back that I didn't participate in, but now I could.) While I didn't always agree with Hitchens, he was brilliant and I liked that someone could stand up yell for us more quiet and private atheists. I have read all the Slate entries and am going to read the NPR one, but I have to say that I am going to miss his writing. The man was though provoking at the very least.

The only "new league" member I can't place is the guy in the back-to-the-future radation suit in the background. Someone help!?

Posted by: Miked at December 16, 2011 3:25 PM

Ah, seems to be a character from Misfits named Simon.

Posted by: Jay at December 16, 2011 3:32 PM

Yeah, I thought the Pond goodbye was fine. I'm not sure what that scene was for if not a farewell. What will The Doctor say? "Oh, o.k. I'll endanger your life just this once more."

Posted by: DarthCorleone at December 16, 2011 3:34 PM

Oh, and bollocks to all of the Amy-bashers!

Posted by: DarthCorleone at December 16, 2011 3:41 PM

Say goodbye to all of this -

(Goodbye all of this!)

and say Hello -

(Hello)

to oblivion!

(Hi Oblivion! How are the wife and kids?!)

Sorry - been a weird Friday, just had to say it.

BTW love the poster with Sherlock and Doctor.

I NEED a movie of the New League. NEED IT, I TELL YOU. Oh my god Harry Potter, Sherlock and Luther alone would make my life.

Posted by: Pants at December 16, 2011 4:14 PM

I went "The Fall better be number one, The Fall better be number one, The Fall better be number one....."
I think that was the most satisfied I have ever been after reading that kind of list. I, as well, would have written off the list if The Fall (the best movie ever)had not been on it.

As for Amy?
Good riddance. Martha just irritated me, Amy I consistently want to throttle.

Rory can stay though. He should realize that his wife is a selfish, inconsiderate, b*tch while he is super awesome and amazing, and say "Adios Amy, The Doctor and I are going to go have some male bonding time."

That's Super Hoodie, From 'Misfits', about a bunch of late teen/twenty somethings doing community service who get superpowers. It's not a remake of Misfits of Science (whatever that is, but every American seems to ask if it is every time the show's mentioned)

Apparently it's streaming on Hulu, or at least used to, and I don't know if it includes the current series.

It's a Channel 4 show, though it'll probably end up showing on BBC America, if it isn't already.

I'd recommend you to watch it if you can. You won't get all the references, but neither do I when I watch American TV, so, yeah.

DAMNIT! I hoped that was the Stig. I guess it's like Superman, if the Stig was on that team you wouldn't need anyone else.

Can the new Companions be the lesbian alien couple from 'A Good Man Goes to War?'

Posted by: Aislinn at December 16, 2011 4:55 PM

My ass those are Karen G's legs. Karen's are thin stickly items that absolutely turn me off. They may have started as an image of Amy Pond's legs, but they've been photochopp'd beyond recognition.

While I lacked the time and bandwidth (thank you Amtrak) to engage in all appropriate pedantry, I suggest Ms Robinson, that Capt Reynolds' pants would fit Rick Castle comfortably still. They were not especially tight, and if I may, Mr Fillion's middle-age 'thickening' (it will be a satire one day, I swear) isn't so much affecting his pants size so much as his shirt and coat size. Cuddly-bear, he's becoming. No go to your bunk.

I decided to pursue my most recent girlfriend based almost solely on the fact that she had The Fall listed as her favorite movie. Might have been the best decision I've ever made.

Posted by: Socraz6 at December 16, 2011 5:21 PM

I think Luther's Ruth Wilson would be an awesome next companion. But I'm afraid it might be Emma Watson, who I like, but would be so wrong for the part.

Posted by: TheOtherGreg at December 16, 2011 6:02 PM

I thought it was a misstep when Doctor Who morphed into The Amy Show, Featuring The Man With Oddly-Shaped Skull. I'll put that on the writers, though. I wish Rory could hang around on his own, but that would never happen. It could be worse, think of what it would do to our constitutions if Billie Piper came back.

1. I clicked through that whole shirtless dudes post just to look at that picture of Thor again. Thanks!

2. Merry Christmas, Sean Bean!

3. Who is the girl with the kangaroo pocket on the League poster?

4. I love the tentacular snow monster in the Calvin and Hobbes vid. Somebody did a lovely job on that.

Posted by: Anne At Large at December 17, 2011 12:08 AM

The girl in the picture looks like the ghost Annie from being human uk.

Posted by: Dark Avenger at December 17, 2011 2:32 AM

Don't listen to all the terrible people, Amy. You're always welcome at Creep Manor. Preferably alone, because I may be fond of Rory, but third wheels are so boring.
