Seriously? Seriously?! Are you fucking kidding me? I don’t watch MTV anymore because I’d rather take a face full of BB gun pellets, but apparently they’ve upped the ante from their abysmal “Underage and Engaged” to motherfucking “16 and Pregnant.” Rage. (Frothy Girlz)

And on that note, apparently the presence of a father figure has absolutely nothing to do with a child’s sexual maturity, according to a new study. So find another damn excuse. (Zelda Lily)

CNN finally aired the video evidence of Obama calling Kanye a jackass (off the record) and while I think it was really kind of vile and unscrupulous of them … I have to admit, the guy is pretty goddamn hilarious about it. (Celebitchy)

This post really got my hopes up when it says Blockbuster is closing over 900 stores — because I hate them — but it turns out they’re just upping their quotient of those shitty grocery store DVD kiosks. (Film Drunk)

Yay! Here’s an interview with my favorite TV host-cum-sitcom star, Joel McHale. Fun fact: Does anyone remember that Seattle-based sketch comedy show that aired on Comedy Central for a bit in the 90’s called “Almost Live?” McHale (as well as Bill Nye) was totally on that. (A.V. Club)

If you want unabashed geekery, Ebay is always a sure hit. This stuff is like the product-versions of fan fic. (Screen Junkies)

Ha ha. The Jonas Brothers accidentally saw their TV mom naked — and of course, they acted like horrified little girls about it. (Agent Bedhead)

Megan Fox went yammering to Rolling Stone about how she’d kill a man in cold blood, and I can’t even finish this thought because my eyes just rolled out of my fucking head. (Superior Gossip)

If anyone out there is a fan of the Swedish pop group The Concretes, you’ll probably dig Taken By Trees new album, “East of Eden.” (TMITM)

You know, I post so many links to lists and whatnot, that I think I’ve probably linked a “best time travel movies” list before. But this one is awesome, because it has Flight of the Navigator on it. I was literally just talking about that movie last night. (Topless Robot)

Because it’s kind of a slow news day, here’s Lauren Conrad’s (of “The Hills”) new line of clothing for Kohl’s. You know who shops at Kohl’s? My mom. (Jezebel)

Some guy out there is re-imagining current(ish) movies as classic trailers, so without further ado — here are the trailers for Raiders of the Lost Ark and Ghostbusters, circa ‘51 and ‘54:

Those twerps aren't virgins. They're castrati.

Those trailers were genius. Charlton Heston would have been FAN-Fucking-TASTIC as Indiana Jones in to 50's.

'16 and Pregnant'?
Meh. Happens all the time.
'14 and Pregnant' is more like it. Now THAT would get lots of attention.
Watch the waves of knocked up 15 and 16 year olds getting preggers on purpose just to get on the show.

My mother informed me when I was 16 or so that under no circumstances would she be raising any babies of mine, so I had better make sure I never brought one home to her house.
It worked, I'm 36 and have zero children.
And I have my own house!

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at September 17, 2009 1:28 PM

Ok.
One: I can't believe I just read that thing about "16 and Pregnant." Really? If anything some girls are just going to be encouraged to get pregnant so maybe they can be on the show too.
Two: Obama is the shit. I loved that video. Even though it was really short I liked being able to see him on a candid level. If only presidents would actually talk to the American public like that we might have more respect for him.
Three: Those trailers made me happy. Thank you for that.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at September 17, 2009 1:30 PM

I actually enjoy watching 16 And Pregnant online. It kind of makes me appreciative of the fact that I was in an all-girls private Catholic school growing up. Also, I was mad virginal.

Posted by: Sofía at September 17, 2009 1:33 PM

What really pisses me off, is the fact that suddenly it is a "reality" that 16 year olds are having kids.
What about all those inner city kids who were having kids back in the 80's and 90's?
White girls are doing it now, so it's neat to film it.

Posted by: badalamenti at September 17, 2009 1:42 PM

Notes:

a) Virgin or soiled (you decide) I still don't want to see the hooha of anyone that I work with.

b) I am reminded of what a crappy actor that Charlton Heston is/was.

c) I don't care if my President calls a total jackass a jackass. I wish he'd thrown a 'motherfucker' in there for good measure.

d) Not only are they doing 16 & pregnant, but they are following the little tramps around for their first year of parenting(?) too. Yeah Lindsey, my mother made it perfectly clear to me that if I ever got pregnant in hs, she was dragging me to the nearest abortion clinic.

e) I'm all excited to see 'Community' tonite! Yay Thursday nite TV!

Posted by: wsapnin at September 17, 2009 1:44 PM

mmm. Taken by Trees... do they have their cover of Sweet Child O Mine on their album? That made the trailer for the new Last House on the Left seem decent.

Posted by: Colin at September 17, 2009 1:44 PM

Hey I shop at Kohl's.

And Obama is my new favorite president of the year.

Posted by: annoyingmouse at September 17, 2009 1:45 PM

I was so distracted by the baby-makin' kiddies that I forgot to say:
Hail to the Chief. Kanye is a jackass, now by presidential decree. That was pretty funny.

But, at risk of gettng Pajilynched, Prez needs to get a little more savvy.
Rule #1) If you are mic'd you are being recorded.

2) EVERYTHING you say WILL be held against you.

3)The media have NO scruples and will play anything they possibly can to feed the gaping maw of the 24hr news cycle.

Obama is no doddering old relic who is unclear on this newfangled technology. He should be media savvy enough not to flash his proverbial boobies to the camera just because he thinks the interview hasn't started yet.

Oh, and I am a little disturbed that he even has 1 single solitary brain cell focused on the existence of Kanye West, MTV, or awards shows. A better response to the CNN Douchebag's leading questions about the incident would have been:
"Kanye who? I am running the free world here, I have no time for such ridiculous crap."

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at September 17, 2009 1:50 PM

Of course the Jonas' got all grossed out when they saw some beav, it's on a woman. The funny this is that they didn't think a bunch of pubic hair was another Jonas.

Regarding pregnant sixteen year olds; as the father of three daughters, I've started a savings account purely for the purchase of birth control.

Posted by: admin at September 17, 2009 1:53 PM

Some random thoughts:

MTV's 16 and Pregnant Show--I'm glad I don't have cable or satellite, and I'm glad I'm me and didn't have a hideously unfit mom or get myself knocked up when I was still a kid myself.

Obama on Kanye: Awesome.

Blockbuster closing: Kinda sad that more people will be out of work. I went to Hollywood Video all the time, but one day they started charging $2.50 for old movies instead of $1, and then had the gall to offer you a reduced rate of 50 cents IF you paid them an additional $8 per month. So I get to pay $8 for the privilege of getting a video for only TWICE what it cost before. That's when I switched to Netflix. I know brick-and-mortar stores have higher costs than online stores, but doubling the price overnight is not a good way to attract new customers or keep the old ones.

Ebay: I consider myself kinda geeky and wouldn't pay a cent for that crap. That Beckinsale head was creepy, and for a second I read the description as "one-sixth flesh" head instead of "one out of six" flesh (colored) head. My brain immediately started churning out all sorts of hideous possibilities as to how the artist incorporated living flesh in there.

Kohl's: my mom shops there too. Not exactly the trendiest place to open a new clothing line.

Posted by: DeadBessie at September 17, 2009 2:08 PM

You know who shops at Kohl's? Me! 'Cause my sister works there and I can use her kick-ass employee discount.

Posted by: Three-nineteen at September 17, 2009 2:08 PM

I can usually enjoy a lot of cheesy or guilty-pleasure shows, but when I came downstairs a couple of months ago and saw my mom watching 16 and Pregnant, I literally had to leave the room to keep from yelling at the TV. Those fucking Juno style animations? Could the producers of that show be any more shameless? It's disgusting. Also: a girl I went to high school with (she just graduated this June) is about six months pregnant and always has facebook statuses that say things like, "Angela is watching 16 and Pregnant with her mom, lol so good!"

And Megan Fox has now far surpassed the ratio of Crazy - Hot on Barney Stinson's "Crazy/Hot" graph.

Posted by: Marcela at September 17, 2009 2:09 PM

Lindsey with an 'e', my new internet Pajiba buddy, we are clearly meant to be best buds. I am also 36, childless and own my own house. And while I loved Obama's delivery of "he's a jackass", I also thought, "hell, when does he have time to even watch that?" Also thrilled your post-rapture business ideas made it onto EE; I read them over the phone to my sis and she laughed until she was hoarse.

Posted by: DeadBessie at September 17, 2009 2:19 PM

I can't believe someone (even KOHLS) would put that line for sale. It's hideous, and just sad, but the biggest sin is that it's completely unoriginal and boring as fuck. This girl actually went to fashion school? If I were the school I'd have her killed, because that sort of advertising will do them no favors. "Hey look! Come to our school and learn to make shapeless sacks and someone will buy them!". Gah, The Hills has bred nothing but sacks of vomit and douche.

Oh, and I wonder how soon Kanye starts claiming that "Obama doesn't care about black people". Just to say something.

Posted by: figgy at September 17, 2009 2:26 PM

Hee. I love how Obama said "jackass". So completely dismissive and contemptuous. Ha, I love it. Bugs me that it's all over a fucking MTV award, but still. That was priceless.

Posted by: figgy at September 17, 2009 2:48 PM

I'm probably about to start a tornado-sized shit storm, but why don't some of these teens that get pregnant sit with their parents and discuss getting an abortion?

Since we're talking about the semi-anonymity of the Internet here (everyone in Pajibaland at least doesn't know what I look like), I will admit that I had an abortion when I was twenty-three, and I'm not ashamed that I did it.

One night my boyfriend and I got drunk and stupid and then had sex and the condom broke. When I found out I was pregnant I was devastated, but I knew for a lot of reasons it wasn't the right time for us to have a baby. We were only in our fourth month of dating, he was a divorced single dad, and I had (and still have) a medical condition that I take Depakote for. Depakote is a powerful anti-seizure drug that causes severe birth defects (all over the bottle it says DO NOT GET PREGNANT), and after talking to my mom (a nurse), my aunt (an OB/GYN who once delivered a set of twins to a twelve year old), and researching the quality of life for a child with these birth defects, my boyfriend and I decided to get an abortion.

Of course it was emotional (I cried and threw up the night before), overwhelming (my boyfriend had a Catholic friend he had known for over twenty years say he couldn't be friends with him anymore if we were going to go through with it), sad (he and I blamed each other, blamed God, blamed the condom), but in the end I wouldn't have changed my course of action. At the time I was laid off from work and he was struggling to pay child support. How could we afford a wheelchair? Therapy? Special schools? A funeral when it eventually died before the age of five?

What makes me enraged about pro-lifers is that most aren't pro-life, they're pro-birth. No white fundamentalist Christian is adopting a crack baby, a black AIDS baby, a fetal alcohol syndrome child from Russia. Not one person picketing when I went to get my abortion, who screamed at us and made me cry and my boyfriend had to carry me inside with a jacket over my face, not one of them said "listen, I'll adopt your child. I'll pay for your psychologist. I'll love it even if it can't feed itself or hold its head up and I'll tell him how much you grieve for it every day because you know you want children and you can't give them the life they deserve." I actually emailed the Duggar clan (they of the 19 children and the Quiverfull movement) asking why they didn't adopt children that were already born. They sent a form email back.

Abortion isn't easy. It's not dinner conversation, it's not simple when someone asks us if we have kids, it still hits me when I see a little boy that looks like my boyfriend (except with my blue eyes), I pause before I tell people why I have tiny heart tattooed on my ankle (I usually say its for someone who died). My boyfriend late at night in the dark still says he's afraid of being judged by God, of picturing what his son would look like. We've lost friends, he and I have sat at opposite ends of the couch silently thinking about who could have done what differently, if we had more money, if he had no children, if I had lied and said I was strong enough to go through all the pain and doctor's visits and birth and dead with him because we loved each other and that was enough.

But I still would have done it. And that's what these teen moms and Bible beaters need to understand. That there is another choice out there. That gives you time to grow up. Time to mature. Time to find the real love of your life. But it doesn't make it any easier.

Posted by: scorzi at September 17, 2009 3:01 PM

scorzi, I just cried a little and fell a little in love with you. At work.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 17, 2009 3:07 PM

Re: 16 and Pregnant. When I was 15 my mom thought it would be best if I baby-sat for every single one of her friends. One of the babysitting jobs was a weekend with a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I thought about becoming a nun after that weekend. I'm 29, no kids.

Posted by: DoubleH at September 17, 2009 3:10 PM

Posted by: DoubleH at September 17, 2009 3:17 PM

I'm just waiting for the day when one of those Jonas twats says their band is better than The Beatles, then the whole world will see them for the sham they are.

Posted by: George at September 17, 2009 3:19 PM

scorzi--I agree with you one hundred percent.

As far as that awful MTV show goes, I would imagine that abortion isn't brought up because hey, that's a real downer, and it's much more fun to follow these dysfunctional people around with cameras.

These fucktards that protest at Planned Parenthood clinics are despicable in how they pass judgment without even knowing a person's situation, and until I see them adopting all these poor little babies, I will feel nothing but contempt for them. It's so, so easy to point and scream, especially when you've never been faced with that choice; it's much, much harder to actually do something that will make a positive difference.

Posted by: DeadBessie at September 17, 2009 3:19 PM

Scorzi, I'm in love with you, and I think you really hit the nail on the head. Seriously, who the hell isn't pro Life?

Glad you liked my little quiet rant. Actually taking boyfriend applications down the road, as Mr. Scorzi and I are breaking up after five years. Will always love and care for each other (it's the most mellow breakup I've ever had), but he's decided that he never wants to get married again (and I've never been married and I want to have a family someday.)

Posted by: scorzi at September 17, 2009 3:29 PM

I'm just waiting for Kanye West to go on air with this statement:

"President Obama hates black people!!"

Posted by: meh at September 17, 2009 3:41 PM

Wow scorzi, that is some heavy shit for you to go through. Big hugs. And shame on your Catholic friend for abandoning you. It's pretty clear that you had the child's life in mind when you made what was clearly a tough decision, and I say this as a Catholic whose mother used to be a counselor at an abortion alternative clinic. (For the record, the clinic was peacefully run and did not endorse or condone screaming protests. Any people like that were not welcome.) If you were my friend, I would have had nothing but hugs and understanding for you. Hell, I already do and I only know from the post you just made.

While we're talking about options for these girls, let's talk about adoption. The chances of these girls having healthy babies are pretty good. So if they're not able to give the child a proper life and be emotionally available forthem while still fulfilling their own aspirations, why not give the child up for adoption? There are a lot of men and women out there who cannot have children of their own or simply wish to adopt for altruistic reasons. It does not make sense to me that a teenage girl should have to be saddled with a burden that they are not financially or emoionally ready for when there are plenty of future parents out there on adoption waiting lists.

Lindsey with an 'e', I think your mother and mine must have gone to the same school of "How to raise your daughter." after my mother had the no sex until marriage talk with me (later amended to 'no sex until you're in a long-term relationship with someone you love and please use a condom' when I was in college), she told me the exact same thing your mother told you. I've been married for five years and still am child free because my husband and I just can't emotionally provide for a child yet. Someday soon, but not yet.

I love the fake Raiders of the Lost Ark trailer.

Now, the question is, what the hell are those clips that from? "Secret of the Incas" or "Shirley Temple's Storybook?"

Posted by: BWeaves at September 17, 2009 3:44 PM

1. My commute home takes me through a major intersection and yesterday there were pro-life protesters along the intersection with giant posters of fetuses (feti?) post-abortion. Most of them were past 70 years old and all were outfitted with flags, pins, buttons, hats, etc. covered with the stripes and stars. A lot of them were also wearing Republican and Conservative paraphernalia and this is where I lost it. They have the nerve to protest my freedom? My decision over MY body? Yet, they scream "socialist" and "communist" and "fascist" and "Hitler" at Obama for wanting to revamp the health care system? Banning abortion is the epitome of all those ideals.

2. It's not a "baby", it's a fetus.

3. scorzi: I am amazed and terribly sorry for your experience.

Posted by: Agent Scully at September 17, 2009 3:45 PM

Scorzi, beneath all that scathing and bitchy, we're all a bunch of softies with a warm interior. Of course, inside that warm interior is a heart of stone, but . . . I forget where I was going with this.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at September 17, 2009 3:45 PM

The chances of these girls having healthy babies are pretty good. So if they're not able to give the child a proper life and be emotionally available forthem while still fulfilling their own aspirations, why not give the child up for adoption?

I'll just do one. They might die during child birth.

Regardless of where you stand on the abortion issue, you must admit that asking a woman to carry a pregnancy to term is a huge thing to ask.

Posted by: pissant at September 17, 2009 3:56 PM

scorzi, i'm a little teary over here myself, and also completely in love with you. I'm also on meds that are proven to cause birth defects, and the idea of getting pregnant absolutely terrifies me--and I'm not even with anyone right now!

Man, where the hell were you guys when I was in high school? I wish we had a Pajiba high school. I wish we could just do a Pajiba convention! I seriously think I send more messages to these boards than actually interact with people I know.

Seriously, whomever started/owns/created this site should have a convention. And you can only come if you're a regular poster and you have to wear your screenname on your nametag. I have a feeling I'd sleep with half of you based on your personalities alone.

That goes for the ladies ;-)

Posted by: scorzi at September 17, 2009 4:19 PM

Just today I saw a "True Life" episode on MTV that was about really young mothers giving up their babies for adoption. That show's always been above and beyond other MTV programming, and this one was really moving and very well done. Both the girls were single, barely out of school, struggling to make ends meet. One of them was pretty sure from the beginning that she wanted to give the baby up for adoption, and even though she almost wavered once she had the baby she decided that she couldn't raise her well at her age and gave her up. They decided on an open adoption, so that the mom would visit the baby every now and then. It was very sad and moving, but I was glad that the girl made the right decision.

The other one, though, was a different story. She was all set on giving the baby up for adoption, and she had even found a lovely gay couple to give the baby too. But the baby's father came along and decided he wanted to keep the baby, even though he and the mom weren't together anymore. So the girl changed her mind at the last second at her ex's urging and decided to keep it. Then she had it, decided she couldn't raise the baby and gave custody of the baby to the father, who at the end of the show was raising her alone. It was really heartbreaking, because you could see at the birth that the girl didn't want the baby, and a lovely couple missed out on a baby.

So, anyway, this really resonated when I saw the story here. Teenage pregnancy is a serious problem, but if the girls decide to go through with the birth, adoption seems like the best option to me. They (usually. I'm sure there's other stories) give themselves a better chance, they give the baby a better chance and can make a couple incredibly happy. Sometimes the hard choice is the best one.

Done randomly ranting now.

Posted by: figgy at September 17, 2009 4:24 PM

"It was really heartbreaking, because you could see at the birth that the girl didn't want the baby, and a lovely couple missed out on a baby."

..and the reasons people adopt from abroad (weak parental rights) multiply. I'm all for parents' rights, but if I went the adoption I'd sure as hell not want something like this to happen.

That being said, I had my second child last week (Tommy) and apologize for my too-long absence from Pajiba (well, too long according to me).

Posted by: samantha t at September 17, 2009 4:34 PM

"Flight of the Navigator"! I was literally talking about it last week. Actually, I brought it (& The Goonies) up in a discussion with some friends when I asked them what movies did they love as a kid that they would want their kids to see?

Great minds, Stacey, great minds.

Agent Scully, when I was in college I saw a similar demonstration outside of the university library. The only difference between the one you saw and the one I saw? The protestors at the one I saw were middle-aged....and had their young children with them holding the disgusting signs and handing out literature. I was so fucking pissed that after I stopped crying I called child welfare on their hateful asses.

There was a Pro-Life group with posters set up on part of my campus today. Everyone sitting at that table was male. I briefly thought about walking over and pointing that out to them but decided it was best not to engage.

My mom toed the "no sex until you're out of high school and really in love" line… and had me on ortho tri-cyclen when I was 14. For my cramps. But also because the rate of accidental pregnancies in her family is pretty high and she just wasn't taking any chances.

Thank you for sharing your story, scorzi. I'm sorry you had to deal with that kind of tragedy, and it really hit home for me because I'm 23 right now and can't imagine having to go through that.

Posted by: frank at September 17, 2009 11:42 PM

Yeah, Scorzi, I don't get it, either. I've seen a lot of episodes of 16 and Pregnant (if anything, it's great to have your teen daughter watch--they don't romanticize anything on that show) and it always baffles me why abortion is not even MENTIONED. Not even discussed! I realize if the girl has an abortion, well, the episode is kind of over, but seriously, not to even consider that?

No comprende, man.

And your story was amazing. You are absolutely right: they are pro-BIRTH. That's it. Not pro-woman, not pro-baby, not pro-life, just pro-birth. I've always found that so strange. No thought for quality of life at all? How can you just disregard that?

Posted by: Snuggiepants the Deathbringer at September 18, 2009 12:49 AM

That's what I thought, maxpurr.
Obama's daughters watched the awards and drew Daddy's attention to Kanye's jackassery. Nice to know he still has time to listen to them. Anyway, awesome. How must Kanye feel, now that he knows even POTUS thinks he's a twat?

Scorzi,
I'm so sorry you had to go through that ((hugs)).
Pro-lifers make me see red. Luckily we don't get too much of the demonstrating over here. I would not be responsible for my actions if I ran into any of them.

Congratulations, samantha t!

Agent Scully, that's my one small hope for a happier, more tolerant future; so many of these hateful wackos who scream "fascist" and "socialist" (and I guarantee you they don't even know the definitions, or that you can't be BOTH) seem to be old. They're dying out. One of these wackos said on a message board that all the liberals had were the young people, which struck me as one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. The younger generations are generally far more tolerant, more open, less racist than the old folks, and they have many, many more voting years ahead of them.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I don't think I'll endorse birth control pill usage for my daughter when she's a teenager. It doesn't prevent STDs, which are an absolutely bitch. A couple of dear friends of mine caught herpes and it sucks to have to tell every damn partner about it - never mind something even worse, like AIDS. Condoms are highly effective forms of birth control and, frankly, I've got no problem putting the onus on the dude screwing my daughter.

Posted by: samantha t at September 18, 2009 12:35 PM

Scorzi,

I agree with you...it deeply irritates me that one can be "pro-birth"/anti-abortion without being "pro-life". In the last election, my younger sister voted for McCain/Palin precisely because of this issue. I would absolutely love to have a relationship with my sister, to share a laugh, and have some sort of communication with her but, for me, her myopic stance on this finally crystalized why she and I don't get along. Nothing wrong with voting for McCain i guess--I just couldn't understand why she was so ethically opposed to abortion without her view ad actions being tempered by some sort of empathy, compassion or advocacy for helping others.

A little backgroun: My mother had my older, half-sister when she was 16 years old. Her boyfriend abandoned her shortly after my sister was born, her Mexican-American family allowed her older brothers to do whatever they wanted (e.g. bring girls home, send them money, visit them in prison whenenver they said they missed their mommy) while she was constantly reminded of her "mistake" by her mother and the rest of the family used this mistake to basically keep her as a very cheap maid/handyman/gardener. Her alcoholic father, who beat her zealously Catholic mother, couldn't have cared less when my mother completed her associates degree. Given my mothers situation, she has often told me she wished she had had an abortion. I know it may sound like an awful thing to wish an adult had been aborted but I cannot express how significantly my older, half-sister has hurt/lied to/manipulated her family. My mother definitely needed time to grow-up, ameliorate her self-concept and self-esteem, become financially independent and get away from her crazy family. With the type of personality and beliefs my older-sister has, she probably needed a very mature, stable parent to raise her. In a lot of ways, the kind of woman my mother wasn't has fueled me to be the kind of woman I want to be for myself and for those around me, specifically for my nephews (two boys my older sister had and abandoned after they were born).

End of rant! Sorry, I just think sometimes I need an eternal sunshine of the spotless mind treatment. Scorzi, thanks for your post and I wish you the absolute best.

"so many of these hateful wackos who scream "fascist" and "socialist" (and I guarantee you they don't even know the definitions, or that you can't be BOTH) seem to be old"

I try and try and try to take comfort in this, but I just don't think it's true. That woman who asked a "Nazi" question to Barney Frank and made him say "What planet do you spend most of your time on?" didn't seem that old. This week, in my area, some teenagers (!!) were hanging up "Obama with Hitler mustache" posters and an elderly gentleman/Holocaust survivor confronted them and they pushed him down.

It's hard not to hate the world some times.
