Goodbye, Mr. Wizard. (Best Week Ever)

Hee! Send your hate mail to Chez — I’m just the messenger. (Deus Ex Malcontent)

Uh oh, looks like the Dateline/Perverted Justice team might be headed Down Under. They’ve got the dumbest perverts of all! (QuizLaw)

Aaaand for the Heavyweight Octogenarian title — Brooks v. Leachman! (Junkiness)

Veronica Mars may not be dead after all! Aw, hell — before I get your hopes up, it’s another frigging comic book. (Galley Slaves)

Really, if the MPAA thinks that a wide-release movie trailer is a potential threat to underage kids using the internet, they are seriously underestimating the powers of the internet. (NY Times)

It must be really embarrassing when you get your boyfriend a role in your movie and then he dumps you and you have to see him on the red carpet at every goddamn premiere across the planet. Heh. (Yeeeah!)

The thought of this just made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. (The Impulsive Buy)

Dammit, dammit, dammit. Why don’t I get to work at a fun place with cute boys where people dance around and drink soda and make music videos. Why life is unfair — after the jump.

I watched that video without the sound because I am at work, and for some reason it came across as extremely creepy. Also I have no idea what it's about.

Mr Wizard...sigh.

One of the first television shows I remember loving. I'd take a dose of that sweet science any day of the week over Elmo and his cronies. Mr Wizard was the one who taught me that glass was essentially made from sand and that you could make it into a liquid state with the help of a blowtorch. That little experiment blew my mind. Needless to say my mom did not buy me that blowtorch I so yearned for when I was five.

*Raises glass*

Thank you Mr Wizard for turning me on to science and all of it's wonders. I'll never forget the magic you contributed to my childhood.

Why don't I get to work at a fun place with cute chicks where people dance around and drink soda and make music videos.

Yeah. And I want that SILF t-shirt.

You know, I've always thought that it would be fun to work at the CollegeHumor office, but now I desperately want a job there. Plus, I have probably-not-too-healthy crushes on some of the girls that work there (such as Sarah Schneider, the lovely young lady at the ping-pong table, and the girl that started the whole thing off, whose name I sadly don't remember...). That was really fantastic. And I still love that damn song.

Here you go, Meander:

Nevermind, her name is Amanda. She's the one who posted the video on Vimeo.com.

Damn, that IS a cool place to work. That was awesome. Though not as drawn to the "cute boys" as you seem to be.

10 bucks on Leachman. She looks like a dirty fighter. Brooks would need a miracle to get out of this.

*white horse runs in*

No, you are supposed to help Mel Brooks.

*white horse lowers head, sulks away*

I could handle vagina feet, and maybe even Clamato energy drink, but WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT MASKED FACE IN THE 4400 AD?

Holy hipsters, Batman!

Posted by: cubicalgirl at June 13, 2007 5:50 PM

Apparently they ARE hiring, and this is sort of a recruitment video. But since I hate coding with a passion, I won't be applying. If they ever need tech support, I am so there. Damn me and my fetish for hardware.

Wait, that didn't sound right....

Posted by: Vermillion at June 13, 2007 5:55 PM

Those boys were cute. And fun. Although, they were very homogeneous. Milky, even.

Love the video! What I love even more is that office. All the wide open spaces and big windows.....I'm beyond jealous.

Posted by: Candy at June 13, 2007 6:15 PM

my age is showing (no comments, litely!!) here, but:

1. clamato isn't that scary, in fact, they used to make a pretty tasty bloody mary mix. doesn't taste of clams at all, i have no idea what the clam juice adds to the taste (i remember tales of my grandfather using it in drinks, back in the REALLY old days).

2. okay, don't flame me, i'm old! I LOVE THAT SONG! who is it, and what is the name (i'm guessing paranoia?)?

3. oh, yeah... rob zombie is doing a "halloween" remake?? DH is still freaked by the john carpenter original (which totally busted ASS back in the day!!)

One of my high school friends was an aspiring filmmaker and we used to make videos like that all the time. Thinking back, they probably weren't as cool as the one above.

Bionic Bunny: The band is Harvey Danger, and the song is called "Flagpole Sitta." I love it too, and I don't care who knows it.

Posted by: Nora Borealis at June 13, 2007 7:42 PM

So it's Harvey Danger covering "Flagpole Sitta"? Because I want it, and itunes is crediting something that sounds similar but not identical to "Hairy Canary" or, alternatively, "Magnificent Tracers." But I see Harvey Danger on the banner for the video itself.

Posted by: socalledonlycousins at June 13, 2007 7:53 PM

socalled: The song is originally Harvey Danger's...for whatever reason, iTunes only has the covers, and not the original (that's the one thing about iTunes that really pisses me off - they do that all the time). The album is called "Where have all the merrymakers gone?" and came out sometime in either '97 or '98, if I'm remembering correctly.

Posted by: Nora Borealis at June 13, 2007 8:07 PM

Thx Nora. One way or another, that's going to be on my "fatass jogging soundtrack" tomorrow morning.

Posted by: socalledonlycousins at June 13, 2007 8:10 PM

OK, don't hate me, but I did laugh that that kid - once when I thought of the truck tearing down the street (because I read an article that said that the rubber was worn off the wheels) and then I laughed because I'm a Pepper too!

Mr. Wizard was the coolest science teacher ever.

Posted by: Osbourne Black at June 13, 2007 9:53 PM

maaaan,.... hot nerd'ish hipster chicks, soda, and dancing in a nice office... I don't want to go into work tommorrow.

It all goes back to my feeling most american work places need to loosen up a little, and the rewards will be great.

Posted by: E at June 13, 2007 10:13 PM

Oh, shit. Is it wrong that I remember that Harvey Danger song from that ultra-shitty movie "Disturbing Behavior" with Katie Holmes?

When I saw the film, I thought "Is this Office Space: the Musical?" LOL. But those guys were cute. Especially the guy in the sweater vest. ;)

Posted by: Brie at June 13, 2007 10:44 PM

um, where were the cute guys?

maybe im not hipster enough.

Posted by: tbag at June 14, 2007 12:22 AM

They MUST be canadiene.

Posted by: Nimin at June 14, 2007 12:59 AM

"Y'know, I've been thinking. Tomato juice is great and all, but you know what it needs?"
"What's that, Bill?"
"Clam. The fresh, cool taste of clam."
"Wow! It's like you read my mind!"

I tried it, and yech.

Wow. Harvey Danger. That brings me back.

Posted by: Mara at June 14, 2007 4:28 AM

bionic bunny, I concur - Clamato makes for a mean Bloody Mary. Mmmm... Bloody Marys.... mmmm...

Posted by: TK at June 14, 2007 8:59 AM

Oh god, alcohol! I would sacrifice several small kittens for a Bloody Mary right about now. Mmmmm sweet tomatoey oblivion.

Posted by: Alex the Odd at June 14, 2007 11:53 AM

The video seems to be made by the same people responsible for the best prank war of all time (I recognized Amir -- they also said his name near the end, and the person talking sounded a lot like Streeter)

Posted by: tph at June 14, 2007 2:19 PM

TK & alex:
THANK YOU!
they always stop making the good mixes. the best one ever was back in the late 70's, early 80's ( ob, you with me on this one?),
made by rose's. as in lime juice.
i just bought a really tasty mix at the new bev-mo in town, wish i could remember the name.
anybody have a home recipe, PLEASE let me know!!!

Posted by: bionic bunny at June 14, 2007 9:16 PM

oh, and thanks to nora! sadly, except for new buffett albums, the most recent music i have is "presidents of the united states". sad, eh? i lost all touch with reality when my oldest kid moved out.

not to mention the bionics. long story.
