Saw that bit about abstinence at Feministing a few weeks ago...still cracking up.

"Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place where as a child I'd hide--Delete. Fix. Do something. You'd hide in a place that reminded you of hair? Never show me such phrases again. "
LOL. Definately the best bit.

That Nick Frost clip was TOO DAMN FUNNY. I can't stop laughing. I may die due to lack of oxygen. Thanks a lot, bastards.

*shudders* Kathy Bates and William H. Macy naked, I actually blacked-out after trying to form a mental picture of those two perversions.

Hmm...promoting violence against people that choose to be different. Uncool Pajiba.

Yes, the eyeliner clip was stupid. It was stupid because the guy came off as a pretentious twerp, not because he was wearing eyeliner.

So he wears eyeliner. So the hell what? Judging from the comments on IDLYITW, it looks like some people there felt terribly insecure while viewing that clip. So much so, in fact, that they felt the need to reassert their own manliness by smearing the comments thread with feces, just so that there's no mistake that THEY would never consider such a violation of the natural order.

Yes, I laughed when the guy said he was "testing boundaries." If wearing eyeliner is a daring social move, then Mensa must hold weekly screenings of Winning London. It seems, however, that to some people, that boundary is a terrifying line between "us" and "them" that must be defended to the death against any transgression.

Everybody's too uptight.

Emo kids are kind of ridiculous and know it. That's the whole point. "I hate the world - what are you going to do about it. Look at me in my eyeliner and girls' pants." No emo kid's sitting around saying "whaaat? I these jeans were my size."

Emo kids deserve to get their asses kicked every once in awhile. Leave the eyeliner for the girls.

Ah to be Emo, it must be hmmm, neat to have everything handed it to you and then whine incessantly. If only I had someone to pay my way thru life I'd be an Emo too.

Just so it's clear, my comment is not targeted at the fact that a link to the clip was posted, but at the "wtf wat a fag" response from the self-styled cool kids.

Seth -

Our issues with Emo kids is not that they are different - it's that they work so hard to be "different," and then spend their time going "Hey! Hey! Look at me! I'm different! No, really! Even though I look like every other kid who shops at Hot Topic!!"
THAT's why they bug us so much.
Well, that and the fact that they copped their style from Cure fans circa 1985.

"Well, that and the fact that they copped their style from Cure fans circa 1985."

I can't help but snicker when I see kids "rebelling" by dressing the same way their moms and dads did. Of course, all kids do it, even the preppies and early Madonna wannabes I've been seing all over the place. They too will someday look back at their yearbooks and wonder "What the hell was I thinking!?!?!?!"

What is that Nick Frost clip from? Is that the sketch show that he's on or a movie?

Posted by: Cody at May 1, 2007 1:02 PM

"Even though I look like every other kid who shops at Hot Topic!!"

I never understood why "rebel" youth seem to gravitate together and demarcate themselves with a particular clothing style. If you dress or act a certain way because you think you need to in order to fit in with a particular clique, any claims of countercultural individualism ring a little hollow.

Of course, it goes without saying that not everyone who wears X is just doing it to fit in with some particular group. I'm just commenting on those who do.

I wish my lawn was Emo so it would cut itself.

I do think that emo kids look ridiculous. I mean, look at them. But then again, when I was a kid I died my hair purple, pierced my ears a half-dozen times, and wore clothes that looked like I'd dug them out of a hole. And while now I look completely establishment and quote-unquote normal, it's hard for me to criticize them too much.

Everyone who thinks about what they wear wants to be looked at. I don't think it's ok to beat 'em up, but if you're willing to put that much effort into it, you need to be willing to get made fun of.

Manny, every day you demonstrate why you should have thousands of rabid fans attempting to stalk you to your hotel room.

Me-I'm so emo, I was born pink.
