Sadly, Saturday Morning Cartoons have turned into mostly Dora, Diego and Handy Manny, but I have noticed a comeback of the classics. I have a 3 year old, and he loves Scooby Doo, Legion of Superheroes and Batman, mainly because if I'm watching with him, the shows need to be something I enjoy too. The new Spiderman is good, but the first couple eps were light on action, so the 3 year old mind wandered a little.

Gossip Girl is a really good show, you guys.

As a liberal voter from a place "like Jonesville," Liberal Avenger can piss off.

With the whole Obama "bitterness and guns" thing, it's really frigging irritating for all small town people to be lumped together. It's bad enough being vilified by the Republican guns'n'God crowd in my own town; but now the MetrObama Democrats are telling me I'm one of them? Like hell.

Posted by: frumpiefox at April 21, 2008 4:02 PM

Oh that Coen Brothers montage was delish. Thanks!

Posted by: coveredinbees at April 21, 2008 4:04 PM

So, wait, frumpiefox, you're saying you're not bitter? Do you need some? I've got bitterness up the wazoo.

Posted by: Kolby at April 21, 2008 4:08 PM

frumpiefox, in addition to Kolby's abundance of wazoo-bitterness, I've cultivated an impressive seven acres of bittnerness over the past two years. I've also got a silo of hate, a half-acre of despair, and a half-ton of snark available. I got some nice rhubbarb too...

Posted by: Skittimus Maximus at April 21, 2008 4:14 PM

Oh, gawd, that didn't come across as chipper, did it? Cause I wouldn't want everyone thinking I was perky or something....

It's just that, I prefer liquor and reality tv to guns and religion. And I'd appreciate it if someone would recognize that for once.

I think my supply of bitterness will hold for a while, and I have some pickled disgust and general disdain preserves stockpiled in the basement, but thanks anyway. Though I might take you up on the rhubarb. Love me a good rhubarb crisp!

Can I just take a moment to say thank GAWD I went to college and slutted it up in an non-digital age? When I think about the "bra pics" that might have been floating about on the interwebs should there have been such an option when I was in college I shudder.

And frumpie, all jokes aside, really? You jumped to the post and what the Liberal Avenger is what the POST said?!? not the sign?

Posted by: lilianna28 at April 21, 2008 5:15 PM

wow, that made no sense whatsoever. I meant to say "What the post said made you stabby? Not the sign?"

Posted by: lilianna28 at April 21, 2008 5:17 PM

So Obama is going on The Daily Show to trump up his street cred with the blue collar gun-toting Pennsylvania crew? Do they watch the Daily Show? Shouldn't he be on the Bass Fishing channel instead? I'm just asking?

Posted by: PaddyDog at April 21, 2008 5:25 PM

Stacey, thank you for at least separating "spider" from "man". Actually I've never seen it like that, but it beats the common unhyphenated usage.

Remember, everybody: hyphen!

But OH thank you for quoting "Pablo Picasso". I'll never get enough of the way Jonathan's voice says "El Dorado" (which must be said with that knowing nod of his).

lilianna28--
The sign is amazingly stupid, don't get me wrong. But it pisses me off to think that just because I'm from a small town, people think I support the message of the sign. The town I grew up in had/has its fair share of signs as dumb as this (some probably worse), but not everyone in town believe(d) those messages.

I've heard a lot of people (rightfully) criticizing the veiwpoint behind signs like this, and many people criticizing Obama for saying that bitter people turn to guns and religion, but I haven't heard anyone stick up for the small town, non-religious, gun-ambivalent types--surely I'm not the only one who exists?

It was a slight downer hearing it from Obama, but he had the good taste to say he regretted his words. It really hurts that those I would ally myself with think I'm a right wing bigot because of my locale.

Just trying to bring a different veiwpoint to the conversation.

And PaddyDog--if they're like the blue collar gun-toting Wisconsin crew, he should stop by Colbert--they watch it without irony :)

Posted by: frumpiefox at April 21, 2008 5:48 PM

come on frumpie, didn't you realize that "small town" is the new "woman in the workplace" and "woman in the workplace" is the new "black" and "black" is the new "catholic politician?"

come on, you're fucking bitter... just embrace it you redneck bible thumper :)

Posted by: lilianna28 at April 21, 2008 5:52 PM

Ok, so I can't deny the bitterness...but I prefer the term, "white trash honky cracker," thanyouverymuch :)

Posted by: frumpiefox at April 21, 2008 6:01 PM

Frumpie: As the child of crazy hippies, raised in a rural Washington logging town, I completely sympathize with you. You are not alone!

Posted by: Miss_E at April 21, 2008 6:02 PM

Frumpie: Excellent point about Colbert.

Just as an aside. I grew up in a suburb (not in this country) that had a small town mentality (if that makes any sense). And whenever I was asked where I was from, I would go to great lengths to tell people "but I'm not really from there, I just live there".

Posted by: PaddyDog at April 21, 2008 6:10 PM

Sounds like we've got ourselves the making of a support group....

Posted by: frumpiefox at April 21, 2008 6:17 PM

Hello, my name is Erin, and I was raised with rednecks.

Posted by: Miss_E at April 21, 2008 6:47 PM

I watched the new Spiderman for like 5 minutes and didn't realize it was "new" until I clicked info. Animation is improved but that's about it.

I'd rather watch Batman (in whatever animated form he chooses to take) over that show.

Posted by: Teresa at April 21, 2008 7:21 PM

Jonathan Richman? Who is this Jonathan Richman of whom you speak? I grew up on that song - the Burning Sensations version on the Repo Man soundtrack. I suppose this makes me sound old, but in reality, it just proves how cool I am...

He was only 5 foot 3
girls could not resist his stare -
subsequently, Pablo Picasso was never called an ASSHOLE.

Not like you...

Posted by: Edith at April 21, 2008 10:26 PM

Teresa who wouldn't rather watch Batman? Rural town rednecks, that's who.

Skit, if I order the hate and despair within 20 minutes do I get the snark as a bonus gift?

Posted by: Kay at April 21, 2008 11:21 PM

Paddy - I heard on NPR today that Obama is also doing the WWE Raw show, so there you go.

And I'm totally going to hell for saying this, because female dougebaggedness aside she is just a 16 year old girl, but...

Miley Cyrus it a total butterface.

Miley Cyrus it a total butterface.

Agreed. She looks like a mutant. But maybe that's good for the self-esteem of her little tweeny-girl fans.

Posted by: Jerce at April 22, 2008 11:11 AM

Edith: Jonathan Richman wrote the song "Pablo Picasso" with his band The Modern Lovers in the early 70's. Apparently the problem is you're not old enough. Heh.

And Jay: I had to google "Spider-Man" to figure out if you were being sarcastic or not. Hyphen? Really? Good to know!

Posted by: Stacey at April 22, 2008 11:54 AM

Hee! That's the first time that's ever been the case on this site....

Posted by: Edith at April 22, 2008 12:39 PM

I came to the comments just to point out that Spider-Man requires a hyphen, but I was not the first to bring that up. I'm not even a comic book geek, just a mom to little boys. I feel a bit geeky that I'm commenting on the hyphen issue, though.

Posted by: Lainie at April 22, 2008 12:54 PM

Oops, sorry for not fixing it. I just figured the next day's Love was almost up, so what the hell. Hey, even I get to be lazy sometimes, right?

Posted by: Stacey at April 22, 2008 3:08 PM

Yo, Stacey, that's o.k. Only comic book geeks or nerdy moms would probably care if you forget Spidey's hyphen. I just have a certain affection for him (see my name link).
