It saddens me to see the brilliant Ben Kingsley on a Razzie list, but it WAS Bloodrayne. Shudder.

And Rosie, get off your fucking soapbox. You didn't give a shit about anyone gay when you were mooning over Tom Cruise and anyone else who went on your show. Shut up already.

I think M. Night needs to go back to basics. IMO, he's had 3 good ones: The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable, which I honestly thought was good. In an interview, M. Night said that Unbreakable was his worst work. Umm...don't forget "The Village." God, that was painful. Still trying to forget it.

Gee, Vermillion, we may be the only ones on this board, from what I've read. I don't own Unbreakable but I think it's the one thing DingDong's done that merits any discussion (and okay, Sixth Sense, for spawning a new wave in Hollywood horror--whatever you might make of that wave which at least rose up to challenge the Scream progeny).

I guess I'm just a sucker for a half-decent comicbook/superhero film (one of Hollywood's most disappointing genres these days) that doesn't sag under its own special-effects/studio executive weight. There are so few, after all (here's me counting them on one hand: The Crow, Sin City, Danger:Diabolik, Blade...and then I'm done. Even Batman Begins was...just okay...for me, although I plan to see how well it ages years from now).

PS: I think it says a lot about Ding that he thinks Unbreakable's the least of his oeuvre. Interesting.

By the by, in case my credibility isn't completely shot, I actually saw Basic Instinct 2 last night (come on! a must-see despite everything), and to be honest, the boy and I were both entertained, the way bad glossy movies can sometimes do if you're in the right mood (see Showgirls, Wild Things, Femme Fatale--although unlike those three IMO BS2 won't merit a repeat viewing). Anyone who says BS2--script, actors, direction--took itself serously must necessarily, in turn, lose all credibility with me. You can actually see the glee in Stone's eyes when she's delivering those lines in a way she's never delivered lines before--deliberate self-parody.

That doesn't necessarily make a film watchable, of course--in fact, too often "deliberate" camp is pretty unwatchable--but it seems to me a lot of critics missed the freaking joke with this one. Or at least the freaking tone. I had a gas watching the improbably outrageous action and dialogue unfurl. We're talking Da Vince Code bad--somewhere on the same level as DVC's best worst line: "Your bank account comes with a safe passage clause!"--only of course much more self-aware.

*Sigh.* I liked The Village for what it really was - a quiet, simple love story. I can understand that people didn't like it, but I think that's only because they brought their preconceived notions into the theater with them. Just like the alien invasion in Signs, the truth about when they were living was simply a devise to set up what was ultimately a story about two people falling in love, and the resulting ramifications.

And yes, I know I just spent way too much time trying to justify why I love a movie that no one else on this site can stand, but whatever.
