Dr. Pisaster won’t have a column up this week, due to the holidays. But, she did provide these handy sex-related links, which I will include in today’s PL:

I'm just going to say I will be pleasantly surprised if Kim Hye-ja gets nominated for Mother at the Oscars. It's a wonderful performance in a troubling film. I'm not holding my breath, but the few awards and nominations she has picked up excites me.

There's something sad about foriegn pop singers doing songs in English. They have no idea what they're singing, they misuse all the words, and no one from America buys their songs anyway.

It'd be like David Lee Roth shamelessly releasing Eat 'Em and Smile catering young latinos with Spanish vocals even though no one with a drop of Mexican blood would be caught dead listening to a fat gringo mispronounce Spanish for half an hour.

It's been said before, but regarding the tone of that MTV Abortion Special blog report--why is MTV always accused of "exploiting" the girls on "16 And Pregnant," "Teen Mom" and now this show? The fact that these topics are so taboo is, in some ways, part of the problem for a lot of teens who are uneducated about sex or the ramifications that having a baby (or an abortion) will have on their lives.

MTV is rarely a source of positive media or influence for teens and could, rightfully, be called hypocritical for both promoting sexualization of youth and then airing cautionary tales about having sex, but anyone who has watched "16 And Pregnant" or the like can tell you that's what those shows are...cautionary tales. I see nothing about teen pregnancy or raising babies being glamorized--all the pain, physical and emotional--is there for anyone to witness.

Posted by: Lindsay at December 28, 2010 1:57 PM

Jay Harrod's got some good points, though I wouldn't put too many eggs in the "I've figured out the pattern" basket. It's more important to know that you don't know. The Doctor was asked an important question Saturday night: What are you supposed to do when girls cry? I laughed and then leaned over and muttered "it is mysterious".

Posted by: Jay at December 28, 2010 2:04 PM

There were at least a few songs in that video I didn't know. I guess I need to start to listen to crappy music in other languages.

Posted by: Steve at December 28, 2010 2:06 PM

Lindsay, while I would agree with some of what you're saying, having sat through 16 and Pregnant on a few occasions, I got the impression that they were glamorizing certain aspects of teen pregnancy. Namely, the setup of the show - with the cutesy doodles and voiceovers - was pure Juno. They even used similar music. I remember thinking that was so incredible wrong. It just gave the whole show this air of lightness and... I don't even know. It just felt wrong.

I have to know...Is Jeremy coming back? Is he the one who turned out to not be who he said he was (as mentioned on the "bitchiest commentors" article?

Please tell me he's gone. Hey, did you guys know he's in porn? And he's Canadian? Oh and he has sex for money! With beefy men!

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 28, 2010 2:56 PM

I'm with you, Lindsay. My wife watches that show (none of us are perfect), and so I am occasionally roped in to watching it. I don't see it as being even remotely glamourous. Those girls have it rough, man. While watching, I can't help but imagine how much worse it would be for them without the MTV paycheck they're getting.

I don't think airing the ramification of abortion is exploitative at all. It certainly isn't sinful, and I can't imagine it will be a celebration of the act.

What's this about? I used to be a regular commentator, but I left for a long time. What's the deal with Jeremy Feist/Gay Porn Star/Big Todd/Whoever He Is? I thought Pookie was the one guy Dustin could never forgive?

Posted by: Devil Child at December 28, 2010 3:57 PM

I'm GLAD MTV is finally giving equal time to a young woman who chose abortion. Don't get me wrong: I'm not GLAD she had an abortion. Two different types of glad here.

But on every episode of 16 and Pregnant, abortion isn't even MENTIONED. I keep thinking "damn, do these girls nowadays even KNOW about it?" I mean, it IS still a legal option. People act as if it doesn't exist. It does. There's abortion, having it and keeping it and having it and adopting it out. Three directions. They all have pros and cons. All of them.

So why not give equal time and attention and discussion to all three?

And just to increase my bitchy scathing factor around here, which is apparently nil, this idea that every woman who has an abortion is horribly scarred and emotionally crippled for life by it is not always true. I've never had an abortion, but I know enough women who have to know they don't go around traumatized for the rest of their lives. Some ARE bothered by it, either temporarily or permanently. But I think that's yet another scare tactic for the most part.

Posted by: Snuggiepants the Deathbringer at December 28, 2010 4:56 PM

Marcela The cutesy doodles and indie music just make the show look and sound like every other MTV documentary-style show (True Life has a very similar feel). It's their "style." I'm not sure it takes away from the actual content of the show, where the teen mothers are often forced to drop out of high school, lose friends, miss out on prom and graduation and nights out partying with their friends like other 16- to 18-year-olds are doing. Many wind up feeling (and admitting to feeling) trapped in loveless, flawed relationships with their baby's fathers. One girl has to give up her dream of joining the Air Force, another learns she can't move where she wants to because the baby's father is going to sue for custody, another wants nothing to do with her baby's father leaving her beholden to her mentally ill mother for support.

I just can't see any teen watching the show and being like, "I want that life!" Even if it meant the promise of being on MTV.

Honestly I'm okay if Jeremy doesn't continue with Pajiba-Love. It was starting to give me a headache. DR does a nice job with interesting links.

And I was always a little skeeved out by someone who was younger than me doing porn. Sorry Jeremy. Also, I hate Feist.

Posted by: grace b at December 28, 2010 7:27 PM

Exercise before breakfast, eh? Tried that shit once and almost passed out. Fuck you New York Times! I need energy to exercise, fuckers! Fuck.

There. That takes care of my use of "fuck" for the rest of the year. I'll now move onto "cocksuckers".

Posted by: Four Eyes at December 28, 2010 9:12 PM

grace b: My thoughts exactly. I feel like a traitor displaying my dislike/disgust of a Pajiba Elite, but...

I was a gay 21 year old not very long ago and quite capable, if I was so inclined, of doing porn. I didn't. In fact, a close college friend did porn, but it wasn't who he was or what he needed people to know. (He's a brilliant chemist, in fact.) We had friendly arguments about it when it came up. Maybe I'm a hypocrite for occasionally watching it, but I am really, really bothered by the open, even proud (and all-too frequent) pronouncement of having sex for money.

I also don't like Mr. Feist mocking other gay men's taste in guys. Apparently, if you don't like overly-muscled leather-clad hairy-but-semi-shaven men with smooth assholes, there is something wrong with you. I take SO MUCH offense to his comments to the extent of "Ew. Who could be into HIM?!"

I've had some wine, and my true beliefs are coming out. Really, I've (up til now) been pretty quiet. I've developed a growing dislike of this guy. I've known and unfriended (in the real-world sense) enough of him to fill the bed of a pick-up truck.

Plus his links kind of suck.

I feel much better. "Feist" lovers go wild. I can take it. And really..."Feist?" Uggggh.

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 28, 2010 10:20 PM

excuse me... "if I WERE so inclined..." Pesky subjunctive.

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 28, 2010 10:21 PM

Jeremy apparently isn't here to defend himself and I think it's fucked up to trash him in his absence. Send it in an email if you must.

Posted by: king at December 28, 2010 11:56 PM

king: You're probably right, and that may be why I felt bad about posting that. Still I'm not sure if it was the right thing to do. But...

I don't know why he is gone. I thought he might be the person referred to when Dustin recently talked about the new 2010 commentator who was not who he said he was. There was the thing with Jeremy being snowed in to a non-existent snow storm. (No one else in Toronto saw snow? JF vehemently denying it? Seemed plausible until his disappearance and DR's mention of an impostor on another article.)

Some commenter mentioned Pookie, and honestly, I know nothing about Pookie's situation...

I remember reading the name in the comments but maybe that is it. Is he/she the impostor?

Maybe it was because of my less-than-secret dislike (I can't say hatred because he is so young) of Jeremy that I assumed he was not for real.

Bllllaargh naked cooking. And without much culinary skill at that. AJBV!K!!!!

Something tells me I need to have wild, unrestrained (and un-filmed) sex with Jeremy to teach him a sexy, sexy life lesson.

Seriously, why do I hate you so much? Even I can't decide.

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 29, 2010 12:27 AM

Oh, and king: Maybe I am stepping over a line, but if there is one place I can feel (more or less) comfortable doing so, it's here on Pajiba.

I don't like to attack individuals' behavior, but let's look at the collective reaction to Armond White, or Ms. Katty Heigl. I know JF isn't a celebrity but if I feel disgust, this is the only place I know where to express it. I am so nice when I feel it is deserved.

Just consider me a detractor from "Feist's" core. Line in sand. Like North Korean powers I will still read the sometimes good stuff from the south. But I may still be somewhat yucked out.

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 29, 2010 12:39 AM

I feel pretty safe in saying the person Dustin was referring to as an imposter was not and is not Jeremy. So that can be put to rest. If you don't like Jeremy's links, skip 'em. Not that hard to do.

Posted by: Snuggiepants at December 29, 2010 1:30 AM

Some of the links are good. In fact close to the # of links I like when anyone else does PL. It's the other stuff...

Man I've dug my own grave, haven't I. I'm not exactly sure why I dislike a young guy baking cookies in nothing but an apron so much. And blogging about his ability to suck his own cock. Amd how his mommy is totally cool with his ability to make money off said talent.

Maybe I'm repressed or jealous or angry. All I know is that it gives me the creeps.

Seriously. His mom is cool that he does porn and can suck his own cock and bakes in the nude. It would at least help if he were an exceptional chef, but he is not. Look, Ma! I stirred pancake batter with my dick! I just hate it, and it offends my pretty liberal sensibilities. Or something.

The word "feisty" is right up there with "moist" and "smegma" for me. I just can't get over it.

Posted by: Vince Noir at December 29, 2010 4:03 AM

Lindsay, thanks for the response. I do think I might not have seen enough of the show to make an informed decision. I think I was so thrown by the Juno style that I was just outraged and closed off. I will give it another shot!

Vince Noir: Meh, I dislike Jeremy's excessive writing style, and I am not a huge fan of him personally, but I try not to get worked up about it and quite frankly I don't think it's worth it for anyone to.

I have been reading Pajiba Love since it's been around, and have been reading the site for about five years (since I was fourteen) so it's kind of a bummer to have to stop reading something you've previously enjoyed simply because the author you liked is gone and has been replaced by someone who vaguely annoys you. I therefore understand the desire to continue reading; it's not as simple as simply walkin' on by as Snuggiepants said.

For me it's more about wanting links from a website I used to trust completely and still somewhat trust, and catch up on some shout outs I might not otherwise get the chance to. If I have to sit through what is basically someone internet-screaming, so be it. It's been really nice having a break from that with Dustin taking over.

I do think someone should inform us about the impostor. Seriously, it's not cool to cocktease folks with that kind of information! I used to be on a livejournal community where they would like... eviscerate the faker with comments and pictures and... god. It was horrible. I would at least like to know the whole story if it's something that is going to be teasingly mentioned. It just seems like if it's something no one wants to talk about, it shouldn't be brought up.

I just saw True Grit so I'm feeling sassy. Sorry.

Posted by: Marcela at December 29, 2010 4:22 AM

hold up hold up HOLD UP!

Jeremy Feist as Big Todd? Clearly no. He's an absolute doll, truly. He's young, dumb (in the 'not trying to impress you/funzies' way, he's definitely smart) and full of...well, you know. He's also very outspoken and truly headstrong. You know, young.

I can see from your posts Vince Noir , that maybe there's a touchstone in your irritation for him...I can totally accept that he may not be to everyone's taste - I love my gay manchilds, not everyone does. He's also kinda French Canadian, and lord have mercy but they can get on your tits, For Reals. Some don't like dick and pie in the same post. Comme ci comme ça, non?

BUTBUTBUT, he's no hater, skaters. I've never once seen such from him, and Big Todd is WAY below Jeremy's standards of throwdown. Jeremy can bitch, yeah, but no hate.

I'm gonna stand by him and you too, Vince. Dustin has that sappy, straight but 'maybe if you get him wasted and talking about the skies when he was young' dreamy quality to him - two different things, but I also hanker after Love Boss Stacey who I didn't always agree with on topics of interest, but damn if she didn't have an edge of her own...it's an evolution, yeah?

Stick with it. We all end up kissing each others' asses around here if only because the world outside the Jiban window is coooooooold and sketchy (and illiterate).

Posted by: replica at December 29, 2010 4:31 AM

I'm too old and tired for internet dust-ups, but if it affects content I have to say it: I really like JF's Loves. In fact, I as I was perusing this one, I thought it was lacking its usual flair. Nothing against Dustin, as I'm also a fan of his work as well, but if anyone is counting, I vote for Jeremy. I hope he comes back soon.

Posted by: malechai at December 29, 2010 9:27 AM

Dustin's links have been refreshing, but I really really miss JF. We had the same taste in useless internet linkage.

I think the Big Todd debacle (note: that's another one of the best words around. Debacle. Say it, it's great) started on a Feist thread and that's where the connection lies. Also, wasn't Adventureman the made up commenter?
