Katy Perry Comes Out Of Left Field To Unexpectedly Win Halloween

By Joanna Robinson | Pajiba Love | November 2, 2012 | Comments ()

I've never been a huge fan of Katy Perry and her pop music empire. That being said, she sort of melted my heart last week by dueting with a young girl on "The Night Of Too Many Stars." Then she had to dress up as one of the heroes of my youth for Halloween. So, long story short, and against my will, I'm starting to like her. (Uproxx)

You know how the critical world likes to argue that more and more these days the very best artistic entertainment can be found on television rather than in the movie theater? Well, don't you fret, Nicholas Sparks is trying his hand at television with three new shows. Way! Mawkish mediocrity for everyone! (THR)

New episodes of "Downton Abbey" will premiere in the states on Sunday, January 6th. To tide you over through the holidays, GQ has a spread of the men of Season 3 including my new favorite character, Stretched Out Landry. And, okay, I finally get the Matthew thing. (T&L)

How are you East Coast types holding up? Well I hope! According to my fav "Sons Of Anarchy" actor, Theo Rossi, things are a lot more dire in the New York than the media is painting it. I don't know about you, but I always look to "Sons Of Anarchy" actors for the most up-to-date and accurate news. That being said, this pictorial article on the flooded New York City subway speaks a thousand words. Finally, I know many of you found Pajiba in the first place via "Television Without Pity." One of their co-founders, my beloved Sarah Bunting, has written a rather persuasive article on why the New York marathon should be cancelled. (NPR)

The Burton family went to Disnelyand for Halloween and, aw, come on, they're pretty cute. (Vulture)

Great description of the plot of The Wizard of Oz or greatest description of the plot of The Wizard Of Oz. (The Reelist)

Many of you piped up yesterday that you were watching "Arrow" on the CW. Muy interesante. I have to admit, after that Barrowman news and this first glimpse at their new kick-*ss female character, I'm intrigued. (TMS)

As Unreality mentions, The Rock is possibly the only one who could pull off this costume. (Unreality)

Finally, Kate Nash and friends reenacted the "Buffy" musical for a Halloween show. I hope they do this every year. via The AV Club

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

Someone please explain the Katy Perry hate for me, cause I don't get it.

    And I hate pop music.

  • Romeo Cranberry

"pretty cute"? the burton family looks creepy as hell (i.e. exactly how you would expect tim burton's family to look).

  • AvaLehra

Nah, I still don't get the Matthew thing.

Good grief, Brendan Coyle and Rob James-Collier were looking fine in that pictorial! Mr. Bates! And Jim Carter was surprisingly hot, too!

  • googergieger

Denver Nuggets have started the season 0-2. I need something to cheer me up guys. ):

NBC news just confirmed that the marathon is cancelled, and thank god for that. The sad thing is I highly doubt it would've been cancelled if it weren't for the public outcry instead of just, you know, human decency.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I like the suggestions I'm hearing that the would-be marathon runners donate their time to running supplies up high-rise floors with non-working elevators. Nothing against the marathon runners - I just think it would be awesome if someone coordinated that.

I love that she sang the Buffy musical, but man, Kate Nash cannot sing if that clip's anything to go by!

  • muertemaria

Cousin Matthew looks like Westley from Princess Bride in that picture. Makes me love him even more

  • JenVegas

Hooray for Sarah Bunting! Man I miss that TWoP site. That there was some good recapin. And it IS how I came to Pajiba. That's an excellent essay and, as someone born and raised in NY with all of my family still there and some of them still without power, I agree with her 100%.

  • Sean

When I saw that pic of her the other day, I actually was mad. It made it impossible for me to hate her for a few days. I like my irrational celebrity hates. Gets me thru the day sometimes.

  • Sara_Tonin00

New York is not alone - New Jersey is absolutely reeling, dealing with flooding, gasoline distribution issues, and less of a central infrastructure to manage it all. But the subway flooding, the rising death toll in Staten Island and outer Queens, the continued lack of power which is especially a problem for those in high-rises - people are definitely struggling.

One of my co-workers lives near that boat-on-the-tracks pic, and was saying how much it upset him to see it happen. It is a freaky sight.

  • POINGjam

At least New Yorkers have stopped shitting on Jersey until y'all are up and running again.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I'm from Jersey. got nothin' but love for the Garden State. I lived in an area where there were actually gardens.

  • POINGjam

    Sounds like a myth.

  • Natallica

Yes, definitely Katy wins Halloween. Bonus points for not showing boobs, ass, or both and the same time.

  • Bedewcrock

I also like that she's really good friends with Shannon Woodward (Daria) who is a good egg in my mind. (Good egg = she dated Andrew Garfield for a long time and I like Raising Hope.)

  • Shonda

And Shannon was in "The Riches" so she pretty much has a pass to do whatever the hell she wants.

Yes, God forbid a woman not be afraid of the stigma associated with revealing herself.

  • FrayedMachine

Hahaha, yeah. I think you've forgotten about how virtually impossible it is for a woman to purchase a halloween costume for halloween that isn't about hypersexualizing herself.

    Mmm... yes.

You have clearly never seen this article:

  • chanohack

I haven't purchased a Halloween costume in years. Putting together one's own costume is really not that hard. I decide exactly how sexy I want to be.

  • FrayedMachine

Sorry. I think you missed where I said "purchase".

  • Gina

If you ignore the "sexy" label in the headings of each of those and just look at the pictures, not all of them come across as "hypersexual", including the Big Bird and Elvis costumes.

  • FrayedMachine

You're right. They just come off as stupid and offensive to any woman's intelligence.

  • lillie

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Thanks for posting this..

  • Sara_Tonin00

Aw, someone dressed up as a troll for Halloween. Cute.

  • Natallica

That's not the case. I was saying it because I frankly get tired of the slutty variations of Cinderella, Alice, Snow White or whatever. This idea was way more original. Show me a revealing, but funny and unique costume and I'm on board

  • Nonanonymous

Fair enough, but don't say "slutty."

  • Sara_Tonin00

Sluts don't find shame in the word "slutty."

  • Natallica

You said "slutty"! Now go to the corner and think of what you have done!
