Is It Just Me Or Do The Hobbits Look "Entourage"-level Douchey In This Photo?

One of my favorite internet artists, Scott from “Great Showdowns” is asking us to help him choose which drawings get the print treatment. (Great Showdowns) He’s also done a Halloween series including this fantastic Hocus Pocus Showdown. (Amok. Amok. Amok. Amok.)

Unreality recommends you check out Beastmaster 2. I mean, obviously, it’s no Beastmaster: Original Abs Flavor, but what is? (Unreality)

H&M is releasing a Lisbeth Salander clothing line…I’ve always wanted to dress as a mentally unstable, violent victim of abuse. (The Telegraph)

Popchart Labs has a new Monster poster. I would paper my entire house in these charts.(Pop Chart Lab)

The folks at HarperCollins have unearthed some of Tolkein’s artwork for “The Hobbit”. The last one of Smaug is especially lovely. (The Guardian)

Speaking of hobbits, “Empire” had the four boys reunite in honor of the 10th anniversary of Fellowship of the Ring. Maybe it’s Sean Astin’s resemblance to Turtle, but the “Entourage” vibe is strong with these ones. Does that make Ian McKellan their Ari Gold? YOU SHALL NOT PASS, LLOYD. (Empire)

Even though I claim to be a sci-fi/fantasy nerd, I realize I’m not following nearly enough “genre” TV shows. Here’s a chart tracking the ratings of 13 Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Nerdbased shows. (Blastr)

But if any of you nerds out there love SyFy’s “Warehouse 13” (I’ve heard good things), I’m wagering you’ll dig this Claudia maquette. Signature smirk indeed. (Qmx)

Dustin has an excellent post on pop culture pumpkins this morning. I’m going to pile on with this zombie/world’s largest pumpkin and these completely rad Teenage Mutant Ninja Pumpkins Watermelons? (H*ll Yeah F*ck Yeah Sh*t Yeah)

Edgar Wright posts an “embarrassing” photo of himself dressed as Ash from Evil Dead. I don’t mean to startle you all, but I would hit that like the fist of god. (Twitter)

Speaking of sexual healing, Michael Fassbender’s Shame has been slapped with an NC-17 rating. Yup, opening night, I’m there, Dora The Explorer backpack in hand. (/Film)

Things went off the rails in Oakland last night when the Oakland PD launched rubber bullets and tear gas at the OCCUPY protesters. You can see a gallery of images here. (GOOD) And you can read a harsh (but possibly earned) take down of the Oakland PD here. (The Awl)

Are you a man? Do you drink Diet Dr. Pepper? What’s wrong with you, you sissy? Drink Dr Pepper Ten. It is a manly soda for rugged men who are covered in hair and sweat and gunpowder. (Snide Remarks)

I love John Hawkes, that’s no secret. I love him so much I own his CD. That’s right, he sings. Here he is performing “Marcy’s Song” from Martha Marcy May Marlene.

And, finally, theirs is an evil laugh.

You love a chart that includes the category "space dragons".

You love a chart!

You love a chart!

EVERYBODY LOVE A CHART!

It's been 10 YEARS since the Fellowship of the Ring? I feel so old.

Posted by: PerpetualIntern at October 26, 2011 1:18 PM

Actually I think Sean is aging into Chris Penn.

Posted by: Jay at October 26, 2011 1:18 PM

But...wait....Riff Raff and Magenta weren't the villains....right? Right?? And I can't see Warwick Davis, even in evil leprechaun duds, without hearing "Willow" in the bleating sheep's voice...and sometimes saying it.

Posted by: NateS1973 at October 26, 2011 1:21 PM

Not just you JoRo. That's douchey with sides of rejection and sexual tension what with Frodo gazing longingly at Sam. And Sam appears to be asking the question we all asked sitting through the 97 hour running time of the trilogy:

"I know right? How did we manage to not end up banging?"

Posted by: Groundloop at October 26, 2011 1:21 PM

Consider me startled, you rabble-rouser.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at October 26, 2011 1:22 PM

Tim Curry's devil from Legend is totally legend!
But where is Di Niro from Cape Fear, the scene in the theater... that is the best evil laugh ever!

Also... no one could be as douchey as the cast of Entourage.

Posted by: MRod at October 26, 2011 1:26 PM

Ha! As I read The Guardian this morning I looked at the items on Tolkien and the Salander clothing line (they carried it also) and said "Yup: PL this afternoon".

And Michael Fassbender makes me so wish to be 10 years younger and sexually nubile that I am ashamed of myself.

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 26, 2011 1:27 PM

I love that the people behind "Shame" are taking the rating as a badge of honor. The NC-17 rating makes me want to see the movie more than I originally did, partly because I'm not a fan of the MPAA's broken system and want the movie to do well but also because of the explicit Fassbendering that will be going on. I can't deny my salacious side.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at October 26, 2011 1:31 PM

And the Dora Backpack, PaddyDog?

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at October 26, 2011 1:34 PM

Mrs. Julien:

I was just thinking that since we introduced the concept here and Link Wench has embraced it, there might easily be a plethora of women around the country showing up to "Shame" with Dora backpacks. It would be like a pre-menopausal, lust-driven version of those strange Red Hat ladies.

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 26, 2011 1:42 PM

One of the hobbits threw a cigarette on my fiance. True story.

Posted by: Angeleno Ewok at October 26, 2011 2:06 PM

It's always so romantic around here.

So is the Elvish tattoo reveal by Elijah considered water under the bridge now, or is there still some bitterness about that? I've met Sean Astin; that pose encapsulates his personality well.

I love Scott's "Showdowns" series. I've come very close to purchasing some of those prints before.

The TMNT "pumpkins" are outstanding.

Just a few things about Dr Pepper...
There is no substitute for the sublime nature of regular Dr Pepper, except for real sugar Dr Pepper, which is - if it can be fathomed - far superior. Diet Dr Pepper does not taste close to regular Dr Pepper. If you think that it does, your taste buds are deficient. I will not be drinking Dr Pepper Ten, because despite my maleness, I am not a slave to marketing, and I would bet the farm it tastes a lot like Diet Dr Pepper - that is, a far cry from the good stuff.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at October 26, 2011 2:53 PM

Dublin Dr. Pepper does, indeed, rule them all.

anyone have a complete listing for the crazy laughs clip?
Muu-huahh-ha ha

I wondered how long it would be before that HORRIBLE Dr Pepper commercial got the Pajiba treatment.

When I first saw it I just stared at my screen, jaw gaping open (one of only two acceptable positions for a woman's mouth), then I promptly announced (to no one) that, "Well, you've succeeded, Dr Pepper. I won't buy your product."

Posted by: Patty O'Green at October 26, 2011 3:27 PM

I've had warm feelings for a few charts but never spine tingling, butterflies in the stomach, love for one.

Posted by: logan at October 26, 2011 5:19 PM

FACT: Dr Pepper is the most disgusting thing I've ever had in my mouth.

Posted by: Ballymena Bob at October 26, 2011 7:59 PM

Sean = Turtle LMAO

Fact: Dr. Pepper rules!!

Posted by: Protoguy at October 26, 2011 8:25 PM

Um, yeah. That being said, Dr. Pepper 10 is the dumbest marketing ploy since New Coke. Or Quikster.

Posted by: Protoguy at October 26, 2011 8:26 PM

Take Sean Astin out of the picture and that shot is 50% less douchey.

@Angeleno Ewok: which one?

Posted by: MonkeyHateClean at October 26, 2011 9:06 PM

"I know right? How did we manage to not end up banging?"

Obviously, you haven't read The Silmarillion.

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at October 26, 2011 10:10 PM

Nah ... keep Sean Astin in. He's the only thing about the picture that reflects how truly idiotic the whole image is.

Seriously, that image looks like an Annie Liebowitz shoot for the "Sexiest hobbits" issue of Vanity Fair.

Thanks a fucking heap, PerpetualIntern . That's math I didn't feel the need to work out.
