Because She Wasn't Nerdy-Sexy Enough Already, Gillian Anderson Will Pen a Science Fiction Book Series

Love of a good stunningly gorgeous woman convinced Sean Penn to give up his 65 guns. Never mind the guns; who is this persuasive woman, you might ask? Oh just his new girlfriend, Charlize Theron. (Celebitchy)

Lookout JLaw, Kristin Stewart is coming after your man. Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) just hired Stewart to star opposite Nicholas Hoult in Equals, an updated version of Orwell’s 1984. Since Lawrence turned down the role first, she has no one to blame but herself. (Huffpo)

Which is better, Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm? I mean, I love Seinfeld, but once I saw Curb, Jerry and Co. paled. Okay, I can’t pick! (Unreality)

Out with the old, in with the new, and Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is the new (spring) show I’m most excited over; “A sychosexual thriller featuring literary characters,” and starring Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Helen McCrory, Simon Russell Beale, Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Danny Sapani, Reeve Carney and Harry Treadaway. Here’s the first little tease (Film School Rejects):

I guess since Tina and Amy refuse to host the Academy Awards, producers had to settle for the next best thing: Superheroes. A mental Marvel connection probably isn’t a bad last ditch effort to get people watching. The 86th Oscars will also celebrate movie, real life and animated heroes, and producers promise “there will be no shortage of comedy” with host Ellen DeGeneres. (via Slashfilm)

Speaking of superheroes and the Oscars, Chris Hemsworth and Academy president,Cheryl Boone Isaacs will announce nominations this Thursday, January 16th. (Oscars)

Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or 1 horse-sized duck? Bruce Springsteen really thinks about, and gives a great answer. (Uproxx)

Alan Becker has been recreating Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away in Minecraft, and the results are simply gorgeous. (Alan Becker via Laughing Squid)

The American Horror Story ladies gathered to bewitch the Golden Globes (holy shit, Angela Bassett), and I just love this photo. (Go Fug Yourself)

As if Gillian Anderson wasn’t already squashing all the competition (is there any?), what with hit shows here and abroad (Hannibal, The Fall), she’s shooting a new series as well (Crisis), and now she’s announced she’ll author a science fiction series. EarthEnd Saga is a collaboration between Anderson and Jeff Rovin (Tom Clancy’s Op-Center series, Back to the Batcave) featuring a child psychiatrist heroine. (EW)

Is Beyonce now the world’s biggest feminist? (Dlisted)

If you’ve already watched the 25 Best Series on Netflix, Dustin has the next 25 you should tackle. (Warming Glow)

How much better might things have gone if only Jesse and Walt had made these? (Boing Boing)

Do we really need a Doctor Who/Friends intro mash-up? Yes, yes we do. (via The Mary Sue)

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is impatiently awaiting Mr. Capaldi’s arrival (via mechanical horse, of course).

Don't Trust the B In Apartment 23 is as hilarious as I wish How I met Your Mother would be.

(Just promise to throw the rocks gently, please?)

  • ellie

"Lookout JLaw, Kristin Stewart is coming after your man." Really?

  • RobynRobotron

I'm with you, that's a strange way to promote a story that is basically Kristin Stewart showing that she's just as aware of her range as we are.

  • Strand

How Jeff Spicoli gets all these beautiful and talented women to fall in love with him eludes me. But kudos on getting rid of the guns I guess.

  • I'm just glad I found a woman who won't make me give up my guns. I don't have 65 of them, mind you, but I do have a few lying around.

  • Jim

    "..holy shit, Angela Bassett.."

I assume you mean this. Angela, angel, if you read this: FLAWLESS.

  • IN. SANE.

It's like aging tried to come at her, and she beat it to death with her collapsible baton like it tried to kill her man.

Yeah, it's a long way to a metaphor, but it was worth it!

  • There's nothing else I could possibly mean.

  • emmalita

I completely agree with The Boss' logic. /stuffs childhood incident with duck back in scary closet

  • I'll see your duck and raise you a pissed-off goose and a half-wild Shetland pony.

  • emmalita

After the duck incident I have stayed away from water fowl of any kind. You have me beat on the half-wild Shetland pony. That would scare the crap out of me.

  • Yeah. People want to talk about Julia Robert's horsey smile, but they have no idea of the reality. They've never stared down that portal of Hell. Feeling the huge, alien teeth crunching down on your fingers....oh god. I'm going to be over here in a corner shuddering and weeping quietly to myself.

  • emmalita

There, there, now. Shhhhhhh. Everything is going to be ok.

  • String Cheese Theory

So Sean Penn gave up all of his guns AND he's defiling Charlize Theron with his presence which brings us to the questions now on everybody's mind, when is Charlie Manson's next parole hearing and isn't it time we all forgave and forgot any past peccadillos?

  • narfna

    Say what.
    Say what.
    Say what now.
I'm sorry, the words "Gillian Anderson" and "science fiction book series" in such close proximity has caused my brain to short circuit. I am now helpless and twitching at your feet, internet.

  • John W

Anyone know if the Fall is coming to BBC America?

  • emmalita

It doesn't look like it. It looks like they are keeping it on Netflix.

  • rio

Gillian Anderson is an absolute delight and I got through The Fall just for her (seriously having Jamie Dornan playing a serial killer who also fucks his barely teenager babysitter was too much, I guess Im not as shallow as I though I was, hot doesn't really overcome creepy) but can we also talk about how this woman gets hotter and hotter with age? is she ever gonna plateau? Not that I mind, it gives me hope that I didn't peaked at 3 like Im afraid I did, and there is still a small hope that i won't always be this fucking ugly.

  • Sean Penn ... new girlfriend, Charlize Theron

So, that is a thing now? This is happening? Uh huh.

    Excuse me.

  • grr arrgh

I don't really have an opinion on the Theron/Penn pairing but you get my upvote for that Reptar gif. Bless you for that.

  • Guest

Theron has never seemed very interesting, hot sure, but boring. Penn is also boring.

I've already heard (and written here) more than their being a couple is worth.

  • Right?

  • Al Borland's Beard

I'm glad to see a Gillian Anderson picture that isn't accompanied by a terrifying dead eel.

  • Jim

The eel demanded top billing. Nerve!

  • lowercase_ryan

As much as I like Dustin, leaving off Love/Hate in favor of looooooooooooooongmire is dumb. I get that you haven't watched it, but you still had Longmire on the list. That is seriously CSI: Rez. It's terrible.

  • Al Borland's Beard

Curb, by far. I really can't stand Jerry, his voice bugs the hell out of me.

  • Tinkerville

I'll never get tired of the classic duck vs. horses question.
