People Are Turning Into Pigs. War Pigs, That Is.

Welcome to more video goodness.

Let’s kick it off with a continuation of what we started with last week, Episode 3 of “Autotune The News.” You know, I wish I didn’t like this as much as I do, considering that I kind of hate autotuners (outside of Daft Punk, of course), but… it’s just so goddamn infectious, I can’t help myself. Plus, the Katie Couric bits? Goldmine.

Speaking of continuations, here’s the latest from Playing For Change. I was going to try to find different material, but this series is simply too damn compelling. The next time anyone bashes the internet (myself included, as I routinely threaten to destroy it), this series should stop them in their tracks. This week, it’s a cover of “War, No More Trouble.” It’s great, even with the self-aggrandizing presence of Bono.

Reader lizzieborden and I have been raving about Amanda Palmer for a while now, so I figured I’d give a little love to her Boston-based band, The Dresden Dolls. This is from a live show at Boston’s The Paradise Lounge (where I’ll be seeing Southern Culture on the Skids on Wednesday). Yes, it’s a cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” I post this not because it’s a perfect cover, but because they’re just that fucking cool.

Speaking of artists we rave about, Christian and I have also been maniacally spreading the gospel of P.O.S. This is “Optimist,” featuring him playing… cups. But doing it really well! Trust me. It’s totally worth it.

outside of Daft Punk, of course

I've yet to understand how they're an exception, or simply enjoyable in the first place.

See, now you're just being grouchy.

cuz Jay *never* does that.

(also, yay Dresden Dolls!)

The title of your post makes me want to watch Willow.

'Alive 07' is one of the greatest albums ever made.

You just shut your whore mouth!

Naw, autotuner's just a bad noise, whoever's wielding it.

I do like LCD Soundsystem's song about them though.

"Coin Operated Boy" was the first thing I'd heard from The Dresden Dolls and it's been mad love ever since.
Yeah, it sounds fey and pretentious to say that they are "Cabaret for The New Millenium" but, dammit, it's the truth and they are worthy of your affection.

I'm warming up to P.O.S., based on Christian giving him the nod but he takes some getting used to. Worth the effort, I believe,

Never thought War Pigs would work so well on the paino. Wonderful

Amanda Palmer sang with the Boston Pops and there's a ton of videos on youtube. "Don't Tell Mama" is my favorite.

Same for me, Spender, about the "Coin Operated Boy". I LOVE that song. And though I'm female and straight, I can easily admit to the fact that Amanda Fucking Palmer is the hotness.

Well I've been listening to Audition non-stop lately. You guys definitely got me hooked on P.O.S.

That *is* a pretty cool War Pigs cover. I don't know that I prefer it to FNM's, though....

For the best war pigs cover, check out the flaming lips when they were on Austin City Limits. Blow you away, regardless what you think of the Flaming Lips

Amanda Palmer was on a guest on TV show here called Good News Week. Basically, it's 2 teams of 'funny people' blathering about the news with a Deliciously Evil Host trying desperately to hang onto the reins and steer the fucking thing.
Annnyways, one part involved her singing 'These boots are made for walking'. Sitting back in a chair, playing a little guitar (ukelale?), she was a billion times sexier than Jessica Simpson sliding all over a car in a bikini.
By the end of the song, she'd walked across the desk and was standing in front of the (seated) host. Crowd cheered, she bowed... and lifted the back of her skirt right in his little face.

Deliciously Evil Host lost the ability to speak, and awarded them 120 extra points.
I added Amanda to my mental list of 'People I want to go drinking with'.

This has nothing to do with music. I just wanted to share that story.

I never liked Faith No More's cover of War Pigs. He sings it like it's a joke and it annoys the shit out of me.

Cake does a rather good cover of it.

You should also check out P.O.S.'s crew Doomtree. their full length is excellent as well. If you ever get to Mpls in December, they throw a party at First Ave called the Doomtree Blowout, which is a guaranteed good time.

A P.O.S. day is a good day.

One of the many things I love about Amanda Palmer is the fact that she LOOKS like a woman and not a half-starved waif. What I like even more is that she's very comfortable with her body image... oh, that she could serve as an inspiration to others.
The woman is just damned sexy, as well as being an extremely talented artist.

FUCK YES, P.O.S.!!!

And my favorite version of "War Pigs" came when I saw The Flaming Lips do it at the Minnesota State Fair. That was pure badass.
