Dr.Dre to End 16-Year Long Dre Drought with 'Straight Outta Compton' Soundtrack

Dr.Dre hasn’t released an album since 1999, when he put out 2001 only two years early. The world was a very different place in 1999, and had very different music. 2001 missed out on the top Billboard 200 spot because of Rage Against the Machine’s Battle of Los Angeles. The next week Faith Hill took the top spot, and the week before the spot was being held by Santana’s Supernatural. If you had a baby the last time Dr.Dre released an album, that baby would be old enough to drive now. I was in middle school. It’s been a long time, basically. But the wait is coming to an end, as it’s expected that Dre will be a new soundtrack album for the movie Straight Outta Compton this afternoon on his Beats 1 radio show. Here’s the red band trailer for the film, with an introduction from Ice Cube and Dr.Dre:

It comes out in about two weeks, so it’s a great month for NWA fans.
