I want the Jaws poster to have a fin somewhere. Is that too obvious?

Posted by: Mrcreosote at August 15, 2011 11:35 AM

Actually the poster in the header was cool to me. Just the gun vs sword and I knew the movie. Would not pay 150 for it because I already have a Raiders movie poster.

Posted by: logan at August 15, 2011 11:38 AM

Zombieland. Shaun of the Dead. Ghostbusters. Schweet.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at August 15, 2011 11:54 AM

Princess Bride, like for serious. I want it for my Xmas now. I love love love this.

Alber Exergian has also done some pretty awesome Minimalist Film/TV posters as well ...

Also Ollie Moss is an excellent artist as well doing this kind of work. A lot of them in the Saul Bass style .. http://ollymoss.com/

What is the one below the header picture? My heart says Deliverance or Planes, Trains and Automobiles but my mind is telling me that "my guts have shit for brains" and I don't know what that has to do with anything. Either way, I'm requesting clarification from someone else's brain.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at August 15, 2011 12:04 PM

Why, Mrs. Julien, that would be Zombieland.

Posted by: Shonda at August 15, 2011 12:10 PM

(I hope that's the one you're talking about otherwise, move along, nothing to see here.)

Posted by: Shonda at August 15, 2011 12:12 PM

Thanks! I wouldn't have gotten that in a million years. I don't do zombies and they don't do me.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at August 15, 2011 12:22 PM

Zombieland and Shaun of The Dead. They're all pretty spleniferous though.

Posted by: admin at August 15, 2011 12:25 PM

That The Empire Strikes Back poster immediately catapulted me back to my 9-year-old self, before I knew how shit everything was. That's worth at least $150.

Posted by: Three-nineteen at August 15, 2011 12:26 PM

Funny, for the Zombieland poster, the letters ren together a bit so it almost looks like "THE BUBBY SYSTEM", where I thought there might be a little known rule when fleeing zombie in which you sacrifice your grandmother to the approaching hoards in an attempt buy yourself a few needed seconds to get away. Which actually sounds more like the "Kafin Kup System" when you think about it.

Posted by: bleujayone at August 15, 2011 12:29 PM

I love the Zombieland poster and the Ghostbusters poster. I would proudly hang them in my home.

Posted by: TWoPFan at August 15, 2011 12:34 PM

If I can't have them all? Zombieland, Amelie, and the Iron Giant.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at August 15, 2011 12:36 PM

That Zombieland one is pretty amazing. I don't know if it's $150 amazing, but I'd certainly find the best sticky poster I could. Something that wouldn't risk damaging it. Tape and tacks are right out!

Posted by: Socrates_Johnson at August 15, 2011 12:42 PM

Here's the thing; I like minimalist posters. I love them. But I see them so often (I spend a lot of time collecting pictures on the internet) that I'm starting to feel like they're just posters for lazy people. Or by lazy people, maybe. Or both. Cuz look, that Princess Bride poster is cool. But it has nothing to do with the general themes and ideas of the movie.

Posted by: superasente at August 15, 2011 12:53 PM

Amelie, so I can put it in my living room and be all pretentious and talk with an accent. "Zee creme brulee ees deeleecious!" And Ghostbusters for my bedroom, since Slimer is ever so cuddly.

Posted by: Julie at August 15, 2011 1:16 PM

superasante: That's a fair point, but I think the appeal of them is in celebrating how even the simplest of ideas can be incredibly memorable. I mean, I will probably think of The Princess Bride whenever I hear the phrase "six-fingered" for the rest of my life.

Personally, I'm not sure what amount of money I would not shell out for the Jaws one.

Posted by: Todd at August 15, 2011 1:38 PM

Jaws, Star Wars and Shaun of the Dead. And Ghostbusters. And...no that's it.

Posted by: Jeni at August 15, 2011 1:40 PM

Once again, I am convinced that these putzes that make "minimalist" revisionist movie posters are all The Worsts.

This shit is the opposite of clever and regardless of what these nimrods think "minimalism" isnt about just not doing much.

Minimalism is a dialogue predicated on the promise that you be clever and say alot with very little. Its an elegant design solution that speaks volumes elegantly with a minimum of vocabulary.
It is not (for the 9 millionth god damn time) you saying "hey remember how this thing was in that book/film?" and couching it in a really bland composition like every single other "minimalist" fan poster art blog on the internet.

It's a cliche at this point to even have to mention how lazy this all is.

Posted by: renaldo at August 15, 2011 1:41 PM

I dig the ones for Zombieland, Jaws, The Empire Strikes Back, and Amelie. I don't like that the ones for The Princess Bride and Raiders of the Lost Ark are so tied to details that don't encapsulate the main story.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at August 15, 2011 1:52 PM

I'm with Three-nineteen - that was a fantastic poster and well worth the $150.00.

Posted by: Stella at August 15, 2011 2:26 PM

The Iron Giant one is perfect.

Posted by: jon29 at August 15, 2011 3:25 PM

LOVE the Dumb and Dumber poster. I might even pay that much...

Posted by: Valerie at August 15, 2011 3:36 PM

If I had $150 to spare, I would get that Iron Giant poster in a heartbeat. Just stunning.

Posted by: beckster at August 15, 2011 4:45 PM

Ghostbusters. Obviously

Posted by: The Lola Monster at August 15, 2011 5:24 PM

Pretty much all of them, but first: The Empire Strikes Back.

And I'm in a coffeeless Monday here, but I didn't GET the Princess Bride one until the comments. And yes, I've seen the movie and read the book.

Posted by: MM at August 15, 2011 5:54 PM

Empire is the best one. Almost Famous after that.

Posted by: Cl at August 15, 2011 6:00 PM

I'll be honest. There's no films here that I love sufficiently to shell out $150 for a poster of. If they made a poster in this style for, let's say, American Beauty (and yes, I know the poster's already minimalist, but it's a different kind of minimalist) I might give up my money.

Or, as an afterthought, Synecdoche, New York would be good.

Posted by: Tim at August 15, 2011 6:17 PM

I'm gonna have to side with renaldo. These are all awful, and this trend needs to end already, just like the stupid 'art deco' character posters that have been popping up everywhere. It was cute once, maybe, but let's just stop it already.

Posted by: figgy at August 15, 2011 8:49 PM

None, but only for the fact that they are so painfully hipster. I'd frame the originals anytime minus Almost Famous--a painfully hipster movie.

Posted by: KKO at August 16, 2011 4:30 AM

The Princess Bride looks like the only one that's worth $150.

Posted by: duckandcover at August 17, 2011 2:27 AM

Raiders of the Lost Ark, most definitely! Star Wars comes in a close second and Shaun of the Dead for third.
