Cake Boss on TLC at 9:00pm ET. Seventh season premiere. I’d like to believe that this is just a series with a terrible title and lurking underneath is a complex and nuanced look at struggling to maintain a family owned and operated bakery in New Jersey. But I’ve seen the commercials so I know that’s not the case.

Major Crimes on TNT at 9:00pm ET.

Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives on Food Network at 10:00pm ET. 18th season finale. Without fail, every time I’ve seen a place on this show that’s convenient to me (or somewhere I’ll be in the near future) and looks worth checking out, it’s closed. I think Guy Fieri is the kiss of death.

How to Survive a Plague on PBS at 10:00pm ET. This is a documentary about the early years of the AIDS epidemic in America, and mostly follows the group ACT UP in their mission to get the US government and medical establishment to begin developing medications to treat HIV and AIDS. It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at last years Academy Awards, in addition to many other notable accolades.

James May’s Man Lab on BBCA at 10:00pm ET. Third season finale.

Genevieve Burgess is taking tomorrow off because there won’t be anything worthwhile on TV besides countdowns. Happy New Year!
