The 'Orphan Black' Season Two Posters Are Brain-Twistingly Cool

By Vivian Kane | Miscellaneous | March 21, 2014 | Comments ()

We’ve got just under another month before the return of Orphan Black, and I swear I could spend that whole time staring at these optical illusion promotional posters. It’s like that old young woman/old woman illusion, except both women are Tatiana Maslany, which is how it should always be.

Via TV Line.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Some of the best graphic design is the simplest. Really well executed. Doesn't hurt that the subject is so, so‚Ķbunk in, I will be.

Hold on. is the first one Sarah, sporting some new grief-haircut, or is it a completely new clone? we didn't have a redhead in season 1, didn't we? except the short lived German?

  • profession: none, or starlet

I'm pretty sure that the first one's Sarah, just shot in red light that brings out the red in her hair.

  • I thought it was just to go with the red background. Cosima's hair is looking kind of purple.

  • Lucie

That's Rachel, the Pro Clone, who works for the company. She showed up in the finale. [EDIT: My mistake! I didn't scroll back up to see what she was talking about and remembered Rachel as a redhead instead of a blonde. As for Sarah's picture, I think it's just the lighting. Cosima's hair looks purplish and Rachel's has a tinge of blue.]

And the posters are cool, but I think I've seen this same illusion in someone's art project that went viral a few months ago. If I can make my memories a bit more concrete, maybe I can dig it up on Google.

Images for profile forward face optical art

was the search I used. Turned up a HuffPo article from a couple of years ago.

  • cox

rachel is the third poster, and she doesnt have red hair

  • The last one is Rachel. The first one is Sarah. For some reason, they didn't post Alison's which is absurd because Alison is the best one.

  • cox

so, so true. and Alison + Felix is just divine.

I love how you can even see the different personalities in the posters...with only half her face...and it's a PICTURE! How the hell does she do it? Has anyone checked for witchcraft?

I WANT IT NOW! *stomps foot*

I absolutely love these kinds of optical illusions, which really play into how powerful our brains are at when it comes to facial recognition. My favorite is this hollow cast of Einstein's face, which is rotated on a pedestal. Even though you know you are looking at the interior of the mask, your brain fils in the gaps and "brings out" the face.

If you don't believe me, check out the video of Stephen Fry explaining it:

that's pretty rad. I still feel like I'm being tricked by the video and want to see it in person.

The dark-haired British guy...what is he host of? He looks familiar.

  • cox

thats jimmy carr. he hosts/guests on most pritish panel shows. he was on would i lie to you, qi, mock the week and much more. he hosts the big fat quiz of the year, 8 out of 10 cats and countdown. you probably also seen him on graham norton's show. he gets around.

  • Sara_Tonin00

Those are *very* cool posters. And very disorienting.

    I broke my right eye.
