The "Firefly" Quiz and Giveaway

We don’t do a lot of contests or giveaways on the site, often because it requires that we actually answer an email from a publicists and then go through the effort of coming up with a contest. However, we do make exceptions on occasion when the giveaway is in furtherance of something we support, like “Breaking Bad,” a couple of months ago, or, as in today’s instance, “Firefly.”

Indeed, Nicole — our Cannonball Read showrunner — managed to secure three copies of “Firefly: Still Flying : A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series” from Titan Books. This third official companion “to the much-loved cult TV show is packed with unseen photos, costume designs, behind-the-scenes secrets and much more, including brand-new Firefly short stories by the show’s writers!”

Cool, right (putting aside the publicist speak)?

So here’s how we’re going to give those books away. A Pajiba Quiz. Ten questions, three highest scores win (or the three highest scores where I don’t suspect cheating).

Unfortunately, the quiz program we use is still a little hinky. This should be corrected later this summer, as I’m working with some other folks on developing a web-based trivia site (like QRANK) and we should be able to use that software to create more, better, and faster quizzes for the site. In the meantime, this is what we have to work with. So, please take the quiz, and leave your score in the comments. If you want to qualify for the prize, I’d also recommend registering with the quiz provider (if you have not already, from past quizzes). We’re working with the honor system here, but there are also a couple of safeguards built in to ensure that no one cheats. But then again, if you go to enough effort to cheat on this, then maybe you deserve one of the copies.

Degree of difficulty: 8.

Note, too, that if you’d simply like to bypass the contest and by the book, you can purchase Firefly: Still Flying : A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series at Amazon.
