The 2011 Emmy Award Wish List

I failed earlier in the week to post my Emmy predictions, and then I concluded that nobody really cares who will win. We’re all far more interested in who should win, because at the end of the night, we’re likely to forget who the winners were in a week’s time anyway. And if we impress hard enough upon our brains our wish-list, maybe we’ll remember who we wanted to win instead of who actually won.

The point is: The lovely and hilarious Courtney Enlow is livebloggging the Emmy’s tonight, and no one live-blogs awards show better than Courtney. It makes the entire awards-show experience worthwhile. Honestly, they’re some of the greatest posts of the year, so do check it out tonight. Buy some wine. Don’t wear pants.

Here, again, is a refresher on this year’s nominees. In bold are not the nominees I think will win, but those who I want to win. In the end, isn’t that what really matters, anyway. That and seeing if Jane Lynch will host as Jane Lynch or as “Jane Lynch.”

I'm still upset that "RuPaul's Drag Race" wasn't nominated for Outstanding Reality Show Competition.
It's the only reality show that's pure joy to watch.

Na....

Anyways, I'll pass on the entire show this year. Pretty arse list and they were pretty shite last year.

I don't watch Justified, but Walton Goggins must be pretty fucking awesome if you think he deserves the Emmy over Peter Dinklage.

Posted by: Thijs at September 18, 2011 1:45 PM

Wow, someone has a serious boner for Friday Night Lights.

Also, Dinklage will win, whether or not he deserves to. He is riding a serious love wave right now. His win will be the high point of the night, and the thing that everyone talks about tomorrow. That little dude will be drowning in puss.

Yes he is married, and yes, he has a newborn at home. Nonetheless. Puss.

The Good Wife and Parks and Rec for EVERYTHING.

Please, Emmy gods. Answer my fervent prayer.

Posted by: lyssie at September 18, 2011 2:15 PM

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

I would love to see FNL get at least one trophy. I wish Connie had a fighting chance.

Posted by: kari at September 18, 2011 2:36 PM

Walton Goggins is absolutely better than Peter Dinklage. He deserves a win tonight for sure.

Posted by: Mel C. at September 18, 2011 2:42 PM

Agree with most of those picks, especially Margo Martindale for Justified. However, I think Late Night with Jimmy Fallon should win for outstanding variety show. It keeps growing and trying different things, whereas Daily Show IMO has been fairly stagnant.

Also Amazing Race for best reality show would be another lazy choice by the Emmy's, give it to So You Think You Can Dance. The most entertaining of those shows on a weekly basis. If anything, Cat Deeley should get best host. She actually gives a shit about most contestants unlike other hosts.

Guest stars were announced already, m'dear. So...you're a little late. I won't be able to watch tonight because of rehearsal, but I'm hoping that my besty (who I usually watch this with) will text me wins as they are announced. Also? DINKLAGE!

Posted by: KatSings at September 18, 2011 3:01 PM

The Daily Show for Best Writing in a ....Variety Series, and The Colbert Report for Best Show.

If only because I'm getting bored with 'The Daily Show' winning 'Best Show' every. single. year.

Posted by: Aislinn at September 18, 2011 3:15 PM

I wonder if whoever wins Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actors will say in their speech "I would like to thank AMC for not airing Breaking Bad during the eligible time frame for the awards. These awards will return to their proper winners next year"

Posted by: Sean at September 18, 2011 4:33 PM

This opinion already went over poorly at work, but I'll just come right out and say it... Game of Thrones is so overrated.

Go Justified and Parks and Rec!!

Steve Carrell too. He really deserves it for his performance in his last episode.

Posted by: elizabeth at September 18, 2011 6:15 PM

I was going to say this :
WHERE THE FUCK IS BREAKING BAD?
but then I read what Sean wrote.

I wouldn't know anything about eligible time frames because I'm one of those Pajiba readers that can't watch a bunch of videos posted here being romanian...

Gwyneth Paltrow already won for guest actress in a comedy for her role on "Glee." I don't remember who won the other guest categories though.

I'd love to see "So You Think You Can Dance," Cat Deeley, "Parks and Recreation," and "Friday Night Lights" all walk away with awards tonight.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at September 18, 2011 6:33 PM

@lyssie
I completely agree 'the good wife' for everything
AND
Cat Deeley for hos! She's lovely and really does care about the contestants. She has a 4th of July party for everybody!
Also, Probst doesn't give a sh-t anymore.

My wish is that the Emmys and all similar awards shows would vanish. I don't understand why people feel the need to have their entertainment choices validated by anonymous panels.

"Look, I won an Emmy!"

"Well, I didn't vote for you."

"YOU don't vote for the Emmys."

"Oh? Well, how'd you get that then?"

"The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft my Emmy from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, (name here), was to carry this Emmy. THAT is why I am paid $250,000 an episode."

"Strange women lying in ponds distributing Emmys is no basis for a system of entertainment ..."

Are we going to send a federal marshall to Iraq to arrest the accused? Why don't we send Holder over to get the guy?
