Some Piece of Crap Doctor Took a Selfie While Joan Rivers Was Under Anesthesia

Some days you get up, read the news and immediately want to crawl back under the covers. We’ve had way too many of those mornings lately, and today is no exception.

CNN reports that just before the procedure that may have caused her death, an as yet unidentified physician (said to be Rivers’ personal Ear, Nose and Throat doctor) took a selfie with an unconscious Joan Rivers. TOOK A SELFIE WITH…wait, are you kidding me? Can someone please clue me in to the thought process that precedes complete and utter disregard for another human being who could not have been more vulnerable? What kind of sick fuck even gets that spark of an idea in his brain to violate a person’s (celebrity or non) privacy in such a way, and please tell me this doctor didn’t actually know anyone to whom he’d show the photo, because I really can’t imagine anyone not being horrified to see it. This physician — I don’t care how good his surgical skills might be — this doctor needs his career ended immediately. Because by even having the capability to…I can’t even say “take advantage of” the situation; whatever switch is turned off in his own brain that allowed him to be so crude and inhumane toward another human being, completely invalidates any usefulness he may have ever have in the operating room. Fire him, take away his license, and send him for serious psychological evaluation.

As if this incident isn’t enough on its own, CNN’s source also says after the scheduled procedure was performed on Rivers by gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist who had taken that photo, was allowed to perform an unauthorized —without her prior consent — biopsy, even though he wasn’t certified by the clinic (as required by law). That additional unscheduled procedure may have led to Rivers’ cardiac arrest.

While it is unknown whether Dr. Cohen observed or knew the other doctor took the selfie, he did step down from his position at the clinic.
