Pajiba's Sci-Fi Television Quiz

By Dustin Rowles and Steven Lloyd Wilson | Posted Under Miscellaneous | Comments (91)

fringe-poster.jpg

We don’t often take folks up on their free offers, because — frankly — if they’re giving something away, it’s usually not something we want. But I know there are plenty of you who’d dig a copy of the first season of “Fringe,” on Blu-ray, and it gives us an opportunity to put together another quiz. I love quizzes. And it also gives Steven and I an opportunity to put some of my newfound sci-fi television knowledge to good use

So, here we go: A quiz on sci-fi television. 18 questions. Add your scores to the comments. We’re working, as always, with the honor system. I trust that no one will cheat by taking the quiz multiple times on multiple computers. We can track that sort of thing — I got some Big Brother software running, and if we catch you, we’ll sell your email address to the FreeCreditReport.com folks, and they’ll come to your house and sing their marketing jingles until your ears bleed.

And, before or after you take the quiz, please do go over and join the Warner Blu Facebook group. They’re graciously providing the freebie:

Here we go:

Note, also, the fans of “Fringe” or of the late Joshua Jackson (R.I.P.) may get a kick out of this “Fringe” gag reel:

I got a measly 927. Alas. ^_^

Posted by: Nat at September 11, 2009 2:08 PM

Zero. My score was zero. I know nothing about Science Fiction.

...

Nothing.

Posted by: Skitz at September 11, 2009 2:08 PM

712. I am the QUEEN.

Posted by: Kate the Great at September 11, 2009 2:09 PM

Too much Dr. Who. I haven't even seen a part of a Dr. Who espisode since I was a wee person. I don't know where to see Dr. Who episodes.

Posted by: Forbiddendonut at September 11, 2009 2:11 PM

675!! And I've never seen Firefly, Torchwood, Dr Who, BSG or anything other than a few Sliders, X-Files and one or two others. Yup, just good guessing, much like high school.

Posted by: Xtreme at September 11, 2009 2:14 PM

1080. Woohoo?

Posted by: Claire at September 11, 2009 2:15 PM

I'm not even posting my score. Boooo! What a shame I am.

Posted by: Agent Scully at September 11, 2009 2:16 PM

477. I fail at life!!!!!!! Seriously, that makes me sad.

Posted by: MM at September 11, 2009 2:21 PM

874. Approximately 437 of those are from good guesswork.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 11, 2009 2:22 PM

959...I expected more Star Trek questions, and I concur that there were too many Dr. Who questions.

Posted by: janetfaust at September 11, 2009 2:25 PM

I'm not registering but if a super nerd really hates Joshua Jackson, I'd gladly take their prize. (I'm becoming quite the Fringe Fan. And I want to rewatch the episodes to see the Observer. He's like Waldo!)

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at September 11, 2009 2:26 PM

1034. Why I knew Mulder's apartment number is beyond me. And never having watched Quantum Leap or Star Trek bit me in the ass.

Luckily two of the Dr. Who questions were from the Eccleston episodes, which are the only ones I have seen so far.

Posted by: Julie at September 11, 2009 2:26 PM

Wow... a measly 789.
Just started watching Doctor Who, so those questions killed me.
Dammit.
A huge Platter of Fail with Sad Sauce.

Posted by: Spender at September 11, 2009 2:27 PM

I totally sucked balls but so far I'm third so I'm gonna enjoy the 20 seconds that's gonna last. only 835, I'm appalled.

Posted by: rio at September 11, 2009 2:27 PM

989. Thought it was good until I saw Julie and Claire's scores. Boo!

Oh, Julie, you probably knew that number because it's also the answer to the question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Posted by: JustBill at September 11, 2009 2:30 PM

Forbiddendonut: The first 3 seasons of the current Doctor Who reboot are available on Netflix Instant. If you want the fourth season...uh...I can hook you up.

Posted by: antoinette jeanine at September 11, 2009 2:30 PM

My stupid quiz box won't load correctly; I can't see the questions, only the answers. It must be the ghost of Joshua Jackson, haunting my work computer!

Posted by: Marra at September 11, 2009 2:32 PM

Heeee JustBill :)

Posted by: Julie at September 11, 2009 2:33 PM

God Bless all the Torchwood ?s. My boss took this first and wound up with a lower score so he wouldn't get it published. Loser. :)

Posted by: lilianna28 at September 11, 2009 2:33 PM

AAHHHHH!!! I can't see the questions at work! Just the frickin' answers!!!!!!!

God, I hate today.

Posted by: dammitjanet at September 11, 2009 2:34 PM

Yes, JustBill, but what is the question?

I don't want your stinkin' Blue Ray discs anyway. 'Cause I don't have a stinkin' Blue Ray player. (Seriously, I just joined Netflix last weekend... how long do we think it will be before I get one of those? 2027 is my bet.)

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 11, 2009 2:36 PM

389.

I have nothing to say for myself.

Posted by: commanderfunky at September 11, 2009 2:36 PM

836. I only knew two of the answers: the composer of the Firefly score and the X-Files spin-off. Everything else was randomnly picking the funniest answer at the time.

Posted by: Robert at September 11, 2009 2:38 PM

I'd have been golden if it wasn't for the X-files questions. Damn. Need to brush up on my non Dr. Who and Futurama and Firefly related sci-fi.

Posted by: dsbs at September 11, 2009 2:40 PM

3-something. I keep telling you people I don't watch TV and most of the questions were Dr. Who related. I've never seen the show.

You can take my geek cred when you can pry it from my cold, dead Centurion.

Posted by: admin at September 11, 2009 2:46 PM

1020. Not too bad for someone who's never seen Doctor Who, Torchwood, Stargate, etc. But not that great either.

Posted by: Blair at September 11, 2009 2:47 PM

563 The Shame!

Posted by: ShannonAnn at September 11, 2009 2:49 PM

553. ONE Star Trek question? Really? And why so much Dr. Who?

The very sad part is that every question I answered correctly was a total guess. I expect someone to knock on my door tonight and forcefully revoke my Nerd Card.

I guess it could've been worse. There could have been more crap about Stargate. But I would hesitate to call Lost sci-fi. Weird, yes, but not so much sci-fi.

Posted by: Wednesday at September 11, 2009 2:53 PM

I only got 681. I watched BSG and Firefly, so I knew those answers. For the other questions I either guessed the name of the only person I had actually heard of, or randomly clicked on a box. I was wrong almost every time. I'm awesome!

Posted by: Sarina at September 11, 2009 2:55 PM

898 Balls.

Posted by: Kiddo at September 11, 2009 2:56 PM

1001. I am a nerd! Or, at least, this quiz was very geared towards my fandoms.

Posted by: Jenny at September 11, 2009 2:59 PM

531. At least I got the Futurama question right.

Posted by: Brie at September 11, 2009 3:03 PM

1156, thanks to X-Files and Firefly. And lots of guessing.

Posted by: Tori at September 11, 2009 3:08 PM

986. Let's hear it for guessing! Cause as shameful as it is I have only seen X-Files, Firefly and a couple of scattered episodes of Quantam Leap.

Posted by: Jeni at September 11, 2009 3:09 PM

1321!
I fucking clicked the wrong one on the last question. So angry with myself for missing a DW question.

Posted by: Alice at September 11, 2009 3:10 PM

989, but I can see there are a couple of scores in the 1000s that beat me. Boo.

Posted by: feramones at September 11, 2009 3:10 PM

852. That's the best I've done at guessing since th SATs.

Posted by: annoyingmouse at September 11, 2009 3:10 PM

1043. does that make me a tv nerd?

Posted by: Mo at September 11, 2009 3:19 PM

840

Posted by: Riles at September 11, 2009 3:19 PM

1257.

That Sliders question had me cryin' like a man.

Posted by: Doctor Controversy at September 11, 2009 3:31 PM

827 - between Sliders, Torchwood, and Dr. Who I was pretty much sunk. One BSG question? Really?!Crap balls.

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 11, 2009 3:37 PM

You know what's slow? This quiz. I got to questions 7 and couldn't take anymore. Why does it take so long to tell you if an answer is right or wrong? Doesn't the quiz know either?

Posted by: Michin at September 11, 2009 3:38 PM

902

Posted by: KDigg at September 11, 2009 3:53 PM

846? SERIOUSLY? So, I really HAVE been just wasting my time.

Posted by: jason at September 11, 2009 3:58 PM

I suck
final score is: 655 out of 1800

Posted by: gunter at September 11, 2009 3:59 PM

502.

I am not apparently the SciFi fan I thought I was! Missed every Sliders, Torchwood, and Dr. Who question.

Posted by: imiachra at September 11, 2009 4:01 PM

643. Star Trek & BSG - yay, Torchwood or Dr.Who.- nay. Sniff.

Posted by: Natalie at September 11, 2009 4:08 PM

i got in the upper 700s but i'm in the middle of a smoky lunchbreak and didn't realize the point counter was going down by the milisecond.

Posted by: gp at September 11, 2009 4:09 PM

838: I thought that was pathetic until I scrolled down and read what you lot got.

Do you want to know the worst part?
I failed most of the questions on series I love and have watched every episode of.
But, I managed to guess correctly on series I've never watched.

Posted by: BWeaves at September 11, 2009 4:24 PM

345...wow.

Posted by: PATTI at September 11, 2009 4:27 PM

I'm in the same boat as Marra. All I get is some advertisement over 3/4 of the quiz and the answer boxes along the bottom. Thus, my score is a big fat zero. But seeing as how a high score isn't mentioned anywhere in the scoring criteria, I would be very disappointed if I wasn't included in the random drawing for my Fringe fix.

How disappointed? Rowles, 27 Dresses, and A Clockwork Orange disappointed.

Mmmm....Fringe...

Posted by: longcoat000 at September 11, 2009 4:29 PM

953.

Posted by: Tarn at September 11, 2009 4:33 PM

983. I don't watch Stargate, or X Files, and my Who knowledge embarrassed me.

Posted by: Carrie at September 11, 2009 4:34 PM

330. And I love sci-fi, just not these shows. The whole quiz consisted mostly of me clicking and saying "damn it."

And I can't believe anyone could get zero from random clicking, you're bound to hit one or two out of 18.

Posted by: Mick J at September 11, 2009 4:39 PM

902...too many missed Dr.Who questions :-(

Posted by: Koolickle at September 11, 2009 4:53 PM

583. I made at least 3 completely DUH mistakes (Of COURSE Captain Mal is too pretty to die!) but it wouldn't have been a great score anyway. I never watched X-Files, Stargate, or Futurama. I would have thought more Star Trek and BSG questions. That countdown clock is a killer.

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at September 11, 2009 5:00 PM

Woo hoo, 1183! Yes, I'm a geek.

Posted by: luthien26 at September 11, 2009 5:01 PM

673. Pitiful. After a performance like that, I can't hardly even consider myself a proper nerd.

But maybe the fact that I'm disappointed by that puts me back up there.

Posted by: giovanni at September 11, 2009 5:14 PM

1113, better than I expected actually. I'm not sure what Sliders is though, which is sort of embarrassing.

Posted by: kyle at September 11, 2009 5:35 PM

I got a 943. I hope I win, I caught my first episode last night and even though I had no idea who anyone was or what was going on it was completely fascinating.

Posted by: TryScience at September 11, 2009 6:24 PM

542. I did get all the Firefly questions right tho, and thats really all that matters.

Posted by: the_wakeful at September 11, 2009 6:37 PM

Um, why not just call it the Dr. Who quiz? One BSG question and one Star Trek question!?!

Posted by: Emily at September 11, 2009 6:47 PM

963, but the quiz wasn't all that great.

Posted by: Brian at September 11, 2009 7:13 PM

"Steven and me."

"It gives Steven and me an opportunity" etc.

I have had a bad week and I do not need this. I oughta come up there and cut ya.

Posted by: Jerce at September 11, 2009 8:44 PM

988 . . . and I have no clue how since I've never watched X Files, BSG, or Firefly. I was guessing lucky.

Posted by: myysharona (formerly Sharon) at September 11, 2009 9:09 PM

428. A couple good guesses got me there.

Posted by: naivehelga at September 11, 2009 9:13 PM

1106. I would have sworn Tom Baker was the longest-lived Doctor.

Posted by: Jerce at September 11, 2009 9:17 PM

I'm too ashamed.

Posted by: Cindy at September 11, 2009 9:23 PM

1001 - not too great for a sci-fi nerd like me, but I don't even watch most of those shows.

I liked the Captain Mal question. Very cool.

Incidentally, I'm not sure about that Doctor Who question about the most episodes. That doesn't seem correct to me. I think it's a mistake.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at September 11, 2009 9:24 PM

1368. i missed 2 questions that i totally knew. i'm just special like that--but i'll blame it on the timer anyway. how could i miss a question about Owen?

Posted by: pq at September 11, 2009 9:30 PM

Goddamn, I love all of you.
Pajibans rule the Universe.
Errrm.. PAJIBAVERSE!
We drink more, fight more and...okay, maybe we don't fuck more, 'cause I'm bringing that average way down, people... sorry. Still.
We may not rule the Sci-Fi Trivia Planet but who does?
Geeky Tards with spandex, latex and NO SEX, filing the crisp, clean air with the foul stench of sweat, unused hormones and half digested Hormel Chili, that's who!
Cheap fucking trick, that's what this test was! What of Cornell Wilde and Dana Andrews? Whither Leslie Nielsen and Anne Francis.
Bogus! BOGUS, I say.
Let any sci-fi nerd take an Antonioni Trivia quiz, eh?
A quick ten questions on French New Wave Cinema, BITCHES?
You Will Be PWNED IN THA FACE! (Thanks, Drew.)
And as far as sci-fi goes, if you can't sit through ALL 17 1/2 hours of "2001: A Space Odyssey" without "having to go pee"... well, I don't know you.
Amen.

Posted by: Spender at September 11, 2009 9:46 PM

746! Dammit! I was really rockin it in the beginning there with some truly miraculous guesses but then my luck done run out. I am proud to say that the only Firefly one I got wrong was the theme song. I love that fuckin show.

Posted by: wandereraz at September 11, 2009 10:19 PM

Joshua Jackson's DEAD?!?!?!

Posted by: derfelcadarn at September 12, 2009 6:09 AM

I cheated as an experiment, and it isn't hard. All you have to do is refresh the browser. on my first attempt I only got about 650, but I saw that the high score was over 1600 which seemed ridiculous. I took it again and didn't even bother reading the questions, only picking out the correct answers, and got a much higher score. At least the top 3 or 4 participants have already cheated because to get these scores you don't have time to read the questions before you answer. My question now, Pajiba admin, is how do you decide the winner among a group of cheaters?

Posted by: CptMurphy at September 12, 2009 10:15 AM

511. . . my husband is not so good with American Sci-Fi outside of Stargate.

Did I win anything!?! =)

Posted by: karstark at September 12, 2009 12:56 PM

135... I never realized this site was sooo republican.. this is just another example of the rich getting richer. Yeah, the person with the Highest score wins a sci-fi dvd for which they probably have already seen... BOOOOO!!!

Posted by: nico at September 12, 2009 5:17 PM

Joshua Jackson's DEAD?!?!?!

Posted by: derfelcadarn at September 12, 2009 6:09 AM

just his career. nobody panic.

Posted by: gp at September 12, 2009 9:06 PM

1106...I'm ashamed I got the Philip J. Fry one wrong! Also, I think they messed up on the longest-running Doctor question, the episode guide here shows Tom Baker appeared in 42 serials to Hartnell's 29 (30 if you count the unaired pilot), and if they're going by number of individual episodes rather than number of serials, adding up the Hartnell episodes here gives 134 total, while adding up the Baker episodes here gives 178 total.

I refuse to give up my nerd card though!

Posted by: Simone at September 13, 2009 7:27 PM

1716, not bad if I do say so myself...

Posted by: blackeyedgurl at September 14, 2009 9:57 AM

962. Not awful, considering I've never watched any of the shows except Firefly and a little Doctor Who.

Posted by: Shay at September 14, 2009 10:41 AM

1463 out of 1800.

That Doctor Who question was a trick one, dammit! You know which one I mean! Otherwise I'm exceptionally geeky.

Posted by: spideychris at September 14, 2009 3:28 PM

1260. Should I be proud or embarrassed (or a bit of both)?

Posted by: csb at September 14, 2009 8:05 PM

spideychris, why do you say the Doctor Who question was a trick one? Like I said a few comments up, it seems to me like they just made a mistake no matter how you slice it.

Posted by: Jesse M. at September 14, 2009 10:16 PM

Crap. Only 723. I should have known more.
