There’s still a few premieres left, but we’re starting to settle in to the fall television season, which — so far, anyway — is better than any previous season in years. Here are tonight’s highlights:

8:00

— “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC.

— “Heroes,” on NBC. Any better this season?

— “House” on Fox.

— “How I Met Your Mother” on CBS.

8:30

— “Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers.” Romo doesn’t completely fuck it up. 28- 7, Cowboys.

— “Accidentally on Purpose” on CBS. Don’t give it a second thought.

9:00

— “Gossip Girl” on The CW.

— “Lie to Me” has its second season premiere. It’s decent if there’s nothing else on, but this season, there’s plenty else to see.

— “Trauma,” yet another show that focuses on nurses, debuts on NBC.

10:00

— “CSI: Miami” on CBS.

— “Hoarders” has its first season finale on A&E. Is this a show that’s actually about hoarders?

— “The Jay Leno Show” on NBC. Bill Maher is on. Really, Bill?

— “Castle” on ABC.

Now *there's* a coin toss for my 8pm.
Dancing with the 'Stars' or Heroes [big sigh].
It's lose / lose no matter how you slice it.

CRAAAAAAAP, I forgot to set my DVR for House!!! I am going to be quite cranky tomorrow without my Hugh Laurie fix for the week.

"so far, anyway — is better than any previous season in years..."

Seriously? In years!?

I question your criteria sir, I question you, I question your site and I question your parentage.

"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

So THERE!

Posted by: MM at September 28, 2009 7:35 PM

Is this a show that’s actually about hoarders?

Hells yes it is. Last week there was a couple who HAD THEIR CHILDREN TAKEN AWAY because of the wife's hoarding compulsion. Bitch pulled a Taco Bell cup out of the trash truck after the clean-up hotties threw it out without her permission. Also? The fridge looked like she was trying to grow a cure for swine flu in it.

The other hoarder was a dude whose lady-friend-partner fell down their stairs and BROKE HER ARM because of all the magazines bastard had stacked on it. And still he didn't clean up.

LOVE Hoarders. I love watching crazy people.

But I will spend my evening with Ken Burns learning about our National Park System. I will be smarter and better informed than you twits watching Dancing With The Wannabes.

Posted by: wsapnin at September 28, 2009 7:42 PM

Football. Oh wait, I don't have a TV.

Posted by: commanderfunky at September 28, 2009 7:46 PM

Heroes is not better, but Robert Knepper is.

Posted by: Cindy at September 28, 2009 8:00 PM

Hoarders is cheap therapy is what it is. I watch it in abject horror and then tear through my room throwing out all the shit that I just tossed in a "deal with later" pile that week. It also helps keep me from buying things I don't have an immediate need for. That show is like an incredibly depressing and gross extended public service announcement.

Blessedly, I can catch the Ken Burns' special after HOUSE, when they run it on the other PBS station. Hugh Laurie + soothing PBS documentary voiceovers? Add one tasty, tasty cool Manhattan and you have the recipe for one satisfying Monday.

An exciting look at the history of rubber: "B.F. Goodrich: The Sublimeness of Elasticity"

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at September 28, 2009 8:24 PM

I would watch the shit out of a documentary about rubber. But I'm the same guy who is trying to get everyone to read about the history of the banana. Seriously, read the banana book-it's great.

We now have a new reason to hate Jay "Fuckwaffle" Leno, there are a lot of actors in Hollywood who have lost work because of the swollen bastard. With 5 hours of drama programming gone, a lot of working actors can't get a good job. You can't even speak his name in those circles anymore.

Fuck you, Leno. We will never tire of hating you.

No love for for Monday Night Castle?

Posted by: Stella at September 28, 2009 10:58 PM

Nope. It's disposable, and its only purpose is keeping the Fillion employed until something better comes along.

Posted by: marya at September 28, 2009 11:23 PM

mrcreosote, have you read Salt? It gets to be a little dry, but the first half is really interesting.

I had not heard of this banana book, but I'm not a fan of the fruit, either. Now, if you can recommend a book about figs, we can talk.

I hadn't seen Castle since the terrible premiere, so I was pleasantly surprised, although the premise still irks me.

BSlim - I'm from Akron, Ohio - not only have I heard/read about BF Goodrich and Goodyear, but I've been on the TOUR! Rubber Capital of the World, baby! Please try to contain your jealousy.

Yes, Dusty - Hoarders is a show about hoarding. I'm pained that you're unaware that a portion of your readership gathers each Monday night to watch and gab about it. PAINED.

Rubber Capital of the World

NOW you tell me!

Posted by: gp at September 29, 2009 1:05 AM

Castle has really dropped the ball this season so far (all 2 episodes). the opening video of the murder scene,, which was always so well filmed and composed is gone, the quirky Fillion-esque character of Castle is way toned down (although the first few minutes of tonight's episode has a whiff of it, while he was watching the fights in the station.
I think I would watch him sell Sham-wow's if it came to that, but this show needs to get it's groove back.

I was mystified by the Heroes premiere, and I KNOW I didn't miss any episodes of last season. I actually had a DATE tonight ( I think. He insisted on paying for dinner, first time out together without mutual friends. Is that a date? It's been so long I don't even know anymore)and missed House and Heroes, so I will be watching online post-haste.

And yes, Hoarders is a dirty pleasure. Very dirty.

“Lie to Me” has its second season premiere. It’s decent if there’s nothing else on, but this season, there’s plenty else to see.

OH no, you did NOT diss The Roth!

Seriously, he makes that show. I'll choose it even if there is something else on.

Cindy,
I agree. I only watched the Heroes season premiere for Knepper. I don't know if I'll bother with more of it, but I guess it's nice to see him getting work. (The guy-shadow was cool, too).

Lindsey,
sounds like a date to me! But you might want to clarify that with him, as male thinking on the subject of what constitutes a date seems to differ a lot.

Posted by: Tarn at September 29, 2009 8:49 AM

So it looks as if next week House is back to formula, which is good, because that season premiere homage to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest did very little for me.

Posted by: PaddyDog at September 29, 2009 10:46 AM

Am I the only one concerned about the spampot 'harvesting' golddigging young girls? I mean, no one likes a goldigger, but I don't think they should be harvested , do you?

Now, harvesting Kanye for that travesty of a song, maybe....

Posted by: hersheygirl at September 29, 2009 11:25 AM

Heroes is better this season, although last night's ep was really slow, which pissed off a lot of viewers. But Knepper (whom I'm unfamiliar with) is very good.

Posted by: Brie at September 29, 2009 1:04 PM

It occurred to me last night that if House is based on Sherlock Holmes, and Wilson is Watson - who is Moriarty?

Posted by: Odnon at September 29, 2009 2:37 PM

Odnon, God is Moriarty. Or Death, depending on how you look at it.
