Cougars, Gays, and Glee

Ah, Wednesday. It’s like Thursday, only it doesn’t overly test your DVR capabilities. Here are the highlights:

8:00

— “American’s Top Model” on The CW.

— “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” on CMT. Did you folks know this show was still on? I think it’s on, like, nightly on CMT. But now it has pseudo-celebrities as contestants. Tonight is Bucky Covington, who was, like, 8th one year on “American Idol.”

— “Mercy” debuts on NBC. I think that’s another nurse show.

— “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” has its 5th season premiere on CBS. 5th? Really? That can’t be right.

— “So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox.

9:00

— “Criminal Minds” has its 5th season premiere on CBS.

— “Glee” on Fox. Not as great as the pilot promised, but it’s still a pretty fantastic show.

— “Law and Order: SVU” has its 11th season premiere on NBC.

— “Modern Family” debuts on ABC. Watch this show, people. Trust me. It’s really, really good.

9:30

— “Cougar Town” debuts on ABC. That’s the Courteney Cox show. We’ll have a review soon.

10:00

— “CSI: New York” has its 6th season premiere. Ugh.

— “Eastwick” premieres on ABC. It’s based on The Witches of Eastwick. It’s hopefully worth a look-see. We’ll review this one soon, too.

— “The Jay Leno Show” on NBC has Vince Vaughn.

— “Top Chef” on Bravo! with Penn and Teller.

Pretty good line up, keep fucking that chicken.

So I guess htere is no need to turn on the TV until 9:00? Only Glee and Top Chef make my regular lineup.

I will check out Modern Family, but of all the unbelievable TV couples in history, Ed O'neill and Sofia Vergara has to be tops.

Of course, a show with Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen sounds tasty.

False Advertising. That show should be called Haggard Town.

Will Colicchio even be able to pretend that Penn & Teller are funny?

Posted by: sansho1 at September 23, 2009 7:49 PM

Screw TV tonite, I am going to the special rerelease of the Wizard Of Oz. Its gonna be amazing and I fully plan on crying like a baby when Judy sings Over The Rainbow. Of course the first thing I do when I get back is watch my DVR'd Glee.

Posted by: Jadashay at September 23, 2009 8:04 PM

Yeah I'm recording seven hours of shows tonight. Seven. Hours.

Fuck my life.

Posted by: The Pink Hulk at September 23, 2009 8:11 PM

I'll have you know Antiques Roadshow is on at 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights. And it's an episode from this decade, even.

Yeah...I'm waiting till 9, too.

Posted by: Wednesday at September 23, 2009 8:14 PM

I am Tivoing Eastwick for one reason and one reason only: Paul Gross, he of Due South and Slings and Arrows. I will probably fast forward through all the scenes he's not in.

How can you people watch TV live? I'm watching Castle from Monday right now.

How can you people watch TV?

Posted by: , (the commenter formerly known as bucdaddy) at September 23, 2009 8:49 PM

I watch TV because at its best a TV show is so much better than any movie could ever be. I watch because even though 99% of TV is complete and total shit, some of it is pretty good and the gems are in there somewhere if you can find them. I watch so that my favorite actors, writers, and directors can keep working on something they love, or maybe just get another week's pay. I watch so that the networks and cable channels won't give up on decent entertainment. I watch to hopefully discover the next great project (Flash Forward maybe?), and enjoy it while it lasts no matter if it lasts 4 seasons or 4 episodes. I watch for the look on Nathan Fillion's face as his Castle character apologizes to Beckett - strong and confident, yet humble and vulnerable. That one scene was worth watching at least 5 episodes of just OK.

Yeaaaaaaaaah! I tell you, it's been a shitty day here today, and I NEED Glee and ANTM. NEED. Don't fail me now, universe.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 9:35 PM

Happy Birthday figgy!

Posted by: Cindy at September 23, 2009 9:48 PM

Tonight on Law and Order: SVU, detectives Stabler, Benson, Munch, and Tutuola discover a man who touches little boys that leads them to Michael Bay's secret sex tent in New York. Will they finally stop this evil bastard, and thus prevent Transformers 3: Megan Fox's New Boob Job?

If they don't, fire up the Murdertank.

Posted by: George at September 23, 2009 9:50 PM

Not really into the young guy thing, but a decent show I guess.

Posted by: Nancy at September 23, 2009 9:50 PM

OMG. OMG. OMG. I just saw a commercial for Whip It. They're doing sneak previews this Saturday. It's at my theater. OMG. OMG. OMG. Fire up the answering machine, Sally! I'm going to the moving pictures!

P.S. Tonight's episode of Glee is really, really good.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 9:54 PM

OMG. OMG. OMG. OMG. Chenoweth is on Glee next week!!! OMG! OMG! OMG! I think that's squee-worthy: SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 10:00 PM

Haha, that's the same reaction I had when I saw her, AvB.

Those football players on "Glee" can really get down!

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at September 23, 2009 10:07 PM

YES WE CANE.

Good lord I love Jane Lynch.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 10:08 PM

Jane Lynch is AWESOME and should be in everything forever and ever. The end.

Rowr, tender young football players. I like the one who's into MILFs. For some reason.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 10:11 PM

I HATED The Witches of Eastwick. That cherry pit scene just about made me vomit. I have no desire whatsoever to watch a TV show based on that movie.

Posted by: elsie at September 23, 2009 10:16 PM

You know who else I love? Stephen Tobolowsky. He's so perfect.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 10:19 PM

beautiful woman her combat index to 3200.. is she still stay with her husband.. someone posted on yahoo answers that she has an profile on an online site

Posted by: anna at September 23, 2009 10:23 PM

Um, Kyle XY is on this Eastwick thing, except he's a lot hotter now. Hm.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 10:30 PM

OK...the pregnancy thing is really not what I was expecting from Glee. Get back to quirky STAT.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 10:40 PM

elsie, so far it's pretty much exactly the same. And Veronica Cartwright, the cherry lady, is in it. But, Kyle XY. Only hotter. (Also, Sara Rue. And Lindsay Price.)

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 10:41 PM

Oh this is just the sweetest show on television.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 10:55 PM

figs, are you talking about the end of Glee? I teared a little..

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 11:11 PM

Yep. Kurt is so adorable.

Posted by: figgy at September 23, 2009 11:15 PM

So, so cute.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at September 23, 2009 11:17 PM

"Modern Family" and "Cougartown" were both fucking amazeballs. Well played, ABC.

Posted by: The Pink Hulk at September 23, 2009 11:39 PM

OK, I will never ever watch this, but why the HELL does "The Beautiful Life" have that stupid "TBL" attached to it? Every damn time they say the name it's just "The Beautiful Life: TBL!". What? are they hoping people are just going to start referring to it just as TBL? And that the more they repeat it, the more people are likely to fall for it?

WHAT IS THIS FUCKERY?

Oh wait, it's produced by Asshole Kutcher. That explains it.

Posted by: figgy at September 24, 2009 12:01 AM

my name is GLEE and im auditioning for the role of best.tv.show.EVAR.

i love the kurt/finn friendship. and Jane Lynch's cheerio nazi character. brilliance all around.

Posted by: twinkle at September 24, 2009 12:05 AM

Glee made me get up off my ass and dance along with Kurt. And Modern Family made me laugh harder than any TV show since Arrested Development. Thank Godtopus for post-physics-lab unwinding.

Posted by: esme at September 24, 2009 12:13 AM

Ha! If a hot tub was the perfect environment for sperm to swim faster I would have had like 8 kids by the time I was 23. Chlorine was my favorite form of birth control.
Oh Glee, you crack me up.

Just saw Modern Family! And that exclamation mark was a typo un-intended but I'm keeping there! It was that good! Love the "Dramatic" entrance of the baby! Yeah, looking forward to that show. Glad I got off my girlfriend-imposed week-long TV fasting. I usually don't watch TV but that was worth it.

Love you guys for recommending it.

Posted by: yocean at September 24, 2009 12:41 AM

I too liked Modern Family.

Posted by: Jackseppelin at September 24, 2009 12:54 AM

Good Lord, when I said in the X-men thread that I wished I had Rebecca Romaijn's body I had no idea she had gone ahead and gotten herself a reasonable facsimile of mine. When the hell did that happen?
Also, Eastwick is not so good.

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at September 24, 2009 1:32 AM

I was just glad that the promo last week for SYTYCD (God, I hate that title) that showed a big guy potentially breaking his ankle was bullshit. They must have added the "snap" sound effect (although do bones really make that much noise when they break?). It still made me nauseous because I've twisted my own ankle like that before, and the pain was unreal. I nearly passed out, and I'm not a fainting kind of gal. This dude just got up and kept moving.

I really, really didn't get why the judges were so gaga over Whimsical Bow Tie guy. He just looked like he was goofing around on stage to me. And why did they let that 46 year old on? He couldn't be in the competition because of his age, and there are plenty of other contestants to see; it's not like they needed to kill time, so they must only have let him on to mock him. And any man that age who dresses like that is mentally ill. Hell, any man of any age who dresses like that is fucked in the brain.

Tyce accidentally farting was pretty funny.

Posted by: DeadBessie at September 24, 2009 7:59 AM

The funniest part of L&O: SVU is that, in the pilot, the detectives were told they could only be on the job for a year or two because of the extreme stress. I guess they meant Roman numeral II.

Posted by: Kballs at September 24, 2009 8:10 AM

Saw a glimps of Cougar Town last night.

Piece. Of. Dried. Poop.

Posted by: bubblegumshoe at September 24, 2009 9:08 AM

Not sure what glimpse you saw but Cougar Town was actually a pretty well structured show with lots of potential. This comes from someone who was disgusted when he heard the title (and it wasn't ya know Rated X)... Courtney Cox is actually funny as hell in this and is not annoying as in her and the entire cast of friends. Now Modern Family is about the dopest show I have seen in a long time. The Arrested Development comparison in on point but I would throw in The Office's influence as well... The one liners on Modern Family kick ass and the whole dynamic is just refreshing (despite the comparisons to the other shows I mentioned).

Posted by: Syzlak at September 24, 2009 12:22 PM

Tivo'd Glee:
"Caning works"

and watched Modern Family:
"little pot sticker"

Love both.
I don't think for a min that the hot Latina would have actually married Ed O'Neil, but that just makes it funnier.
I loved the mall walker joke and the entrance of the baby had me on the floor.
Funny stuff...oh, and the airsoft gun bit, my teen plays, excuse me, runs around the yard shooting at other dudes with those and while they will not go into your skin, they can really sting if you hit someone in the jugular.

Posted by: jules at September 24, 2009 2:18 PM

Yeah, Eastwick is pretty awful. I hung in there for there whole hour, and there is NOTHING redeeming there in terms of writing. Even the opening scene made me gag with its overt Desperate Housewives/Sex and the City tone.
