Yes, I'm Pandering

There are so many new shows on tonight! Shows coming back, shows premiering, shows you’ve been waiting for and maybe one or two you could care less about and one that probably nobody reading this is actually watching and we’d all just prefer if it would go away forever. Still exciting! We’ve got “House”, we’ve got “Chuck”, we’ve got that damn “The Ev3nt” show that’s being advertised everywhere that they want to make the new “LOST” which I know because that’s what the commercials say. Also, it’s like Indie Music night over on the talk show circuit and I have no clue what that’s all about but I completely approve. Fall television is back! Weeeeeeee! Here’s your Monday night TV:

8:00pm: “90210” on The CW

“Chuck” on NBC. Fourth season premiere.

“Dancing With the Stars” on ABC. 11th season premiere. I think it’s mostly reality “stars” this season which is it’s own special kind of boring.

“House” on Fox. Seventh season premiere. They’ve been teasing this for a while with shots of House and Cuddy in bed together so, you know, if that’s your thing then enjoy. I tune in when I remember this is on at 8 and not at 9 occasionally, but House’s particular brand of “Oh, I’m gonna be a raging asshole to everyone and then act wounded when no one loves me because I’m only a jerk because of all my physical and emotional pain. And because I can’t actually communicate” grew a little worn for me after the first couple seasons despite Hugh Laurie’s best efforts. Still, probably one of the more consistent shows on TV, I’ll grant them that.

“How I Met Your Mother” on CBS. Sixth season premiere.

“Little People, Big World” on TLC

8:30pm: “Little People, Big World” on TLC

“Monday Night Football: New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers” on ESPN

“Rules of Engagement” on CBS. Fifth season premiere.

9:00pm: “The Event” on NBC. Series premiere. More than wondering what, exactly, “The Event” is whenever I see ads for this I just wonder why the second “e” in “Event” HAS to be backwards. I might end up watching the show just to see if they explain that, but they probably won’t because I’m sure it was an art direction decisions for the ads, not actually anything to do with the show. Which sucks, because it always bugs me a little.

“America’s Best: Comfort Food” on Food Network

“Gossip Girl” on The CW

“Kate Plus 8” on TLC

“Lone Star” on Fox. Series premiere.

“Money Hungry” on VH1

“American Masters: Cachao: Uno Mas” on PBS

“RuPaul’s Drag U” on Logo. First season finale.

“Top Gear: Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine” on BBCA. Fifth season finale.

“Two and a Half Men” on CBS. Eighth season premiere.

“WWE: RAW” on USA

9:30pm: “Mike and Molly” on CBS

“Operation Repo” on TruTV

“Quints By Surprise” on TLC

“Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” on MTV

10:00pm: “Chase” on NBC. Series premiere.

“Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives” on Food Network

“Hard Core Pawn” on TruTV

“Hawaii Five-0” on CBS. Series premiere. I can’t wait to see what shows my generation chooses to remake out of a sense of misguided nostalgia and pure greed when we wrest cultural control away from the Boomers. I’m deliberately skipping over Generation X or whatever we’re calling them these days because frankly if they were going to make a stand, they would’ve done it already. Besides, they’d probably just remake “My So Called Life” and release another generation who use “like” as a form of verbal punctuation and end sentences with “or whatever” as a nervous tic. YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE.

“Hoarders” on A&E

“Mystery Diagnosis” on Health

“Pawn Star$” on History

“Quints By Surprise” on TLC

“Scream Queens” on VH1

“Thintervention with Jackie Warner” on Bravo

“Weeds” on Showtime
“The World of Jenks” on MTV

“Castle” on ABC. Third season premiere. Starts at 10:01pm so, you know, adjust DVRs accordingly.

10:30pm: “The Big C” on Showtime

Late Night Listings

“The Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS featuring Bill Clinton and Chromeo

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on NBC featuring Justin Timberlake, Jane Lynch, and OK Go

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC featuring Courtney Cox, Bruno Tonioli, and Phoenix

“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS featuring Mindy Kaling and Steve Hartman

“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on NBC featuring Julianna Margulies, Cory Monteith, and Superchunk

“Late Call with Carson Daly” on NBC featuring Kristen Schaal, B.o.B, Chef Wolvesmouth, and the Walkmen

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Jimmy Carter

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Pavement

Holy shit, Jimmy Carter is still alive? Sweet Christmas!

Yeah, I gave up on House, like 2 seasons ago. I only tune in if they have interesting guest stars.

I'm so there for "The Event," I love Jason Ritter, hes so personable and has a great indie film career going. He's also the only reason I tuned (on fast forward) into Leno last week, the one with Kate Walsh in the sushi dress. Yeah...

Posted by: kilmo at September 20, 2010 7:45 PM

Wooohoo, TV is back! Now gonna have to juggle the channels and figure out what I want to watch.

Also this: “Top Gear: Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine”? My addled brain read it as "Top Tranny in Constantine". It was very confusing.

Posted by: figgy at September 20, 2010 7:45 PM

Hugh Laurie's "best efforts" are still the greatest reasons to watch House. His portrayal is consistently amazing and he has created one of the most fascinating characters in tv history.

I have to wonder what ever happened to the navigation buttons on this site. Having to bounce back to the home page all the time seriously stinks.

And who's responsible for the Hawaiian music in the elevators?

Posted by: The Wanderer at September 20, 2010 7:59 PM

And House is off to an outstanding start.

Posted by: figgy at September 20, 2010 8:02 PM

Dear Godtopus,

Please see it in your heart to grant my Margaret Cho a free pass to the finale of Dancing with the Stars. Anyone who is willing to do slapstick during a Viennese Waltz and piss off the judges by otherwise dancing so well deserves the trophy in the end.

Your bitchy disciple,

Robert

Posted by: Robert at September 20, 2010 8:53 PM

yay Chuck!

Posted by: idleprimate at September 20, 2010 9:38 PM

I got all giggly at that picture. Heee...there I go again!

Posted by: Sar at September 20, 2010 9:42 PM

Well, your pandering worked because I saw the picture, went, "OMG HOUSE!" clicked on it, read what you had to say about it (All valid points, Intern Rusty, but this last season actually had House trying to be a human being and having all his friends kinda be assholes in return which is why he kept reverting back to being a wounded emo. In the season finale, he was a actual non-asshole, and the result was that... blah blah blah, you don't actually care do you? GO WATCH IT!) and then came down to see what other people said about House.

Also, yay Chuck!

Posted by: denesteak at September 20, 2010 10:11 PM

the event is just fucking aliens, its a total joke

Posted by: Ja Ja Ja Ja at September 20, 2010 10:12 PM

Castle!!!!! Whee!

Posted by: a at September 20, 2010 10:48 PM

I really hadn't been giving Lisa Edelstein her due credit. Woman can act toe-to-toe with Hugh Laurie. Last two shots were perfect.

Do Jewish chicks count on the "Sugar, no cream" thread?

Posted by: , at September 20, 2010 10:58 PM

Hmmm? What? Sorry, I was distracted by the uncontrollable quivering of my loins when I saw that pic.

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at September 20, 2010 11:06 PM

So I come home at 11 pm from an extremely busy shift at work all ready to relax, to catch up with Chuck and How I Met Your Mother, catch the new The Big C and maybe check out Lone Star and The Event but Time Warner had other plans. NOT ONE FUCKING SHOW RECORDED!!! Ahem. Sorry. Apparently some issue with their digital cable and nobody's shows recorded. Monday is one of my favorite TV nights, Time Warner, and I will cut a bitch if this shit continues.

Posted by: Even Stevens at September 21, 2010 1:26 AM

That same shit happens to me all the damn time on Comcast, too, Even Stevens.

"This program was not recorded because the video signal was not available."

FUCK!

Posted by: Rykker at September 21, 2010 3:54 AM

I liked The Event. The constant time jumps may get irritating after a while but I enjoyed the premiere. I fell out of watching Chuck last season but I enjoyed this episode and plan to stick with it. I really hate shows that keep obvious paired characters apart through misunderstanding and contrived circumstances. It just is so damn lazy. But now that Sarah and Chuck are actually together it's much more pleasant to watch. Plus, Linda Hamilton looked GOOD. Not sure what the hell they did to her over on Weeds.

Posted by: TylerDFC at September 21, 2010 6:30 AM

Well, after my whining about you guys being so far ahead of us in the UK with Sons of Anarchy and True Blood, at least I can take comfort in the fact that we're only 7 episodes behind in Mad Men (although that involves complex site navigation when I want to read what's been written about it) and by the looks of it, will be 3 or 4 behind you on House. We have seen all of the Top Gear episodes you're now getting, but that doesn't seem like a very fair trade...

Posted by: lingli at September 21, 2010 7:41 AM

So nobody else thought The Event sucked? In what universe does the Secret Service bundle the Prez into the limo only to then leave him sitting there staring at the approaching plane waiting for it to hit? It's bad lazy TV despite the fact that my beloved Luke from Gilmore Girls is in it.

I refuse to acknowledge the existence Hawaii 50. Jack Lord was the only person who could ever play Steve McGarrett and why do they have a hobbitt playing Dano?

Posted by: PaddyDog at September 21, 2010 8:24 AM

Paddydog speaks the truth. Only Jack Lord could stand on a beach where everyone else's hair is blowing askew and his never moves.

Book THAT, Danno.

To be honest, I've stopped watching House after the bullshit death of one of its charcter about 2-3 seasons ago. One of the biggest eye-rollers in recent TV history.

Posted by: Corey Weaver at September 21, 2010 10:50 AM

good to know it's not just me, Rykker. It's killing me to see the Chuck recap on the home page and not be able to discuss!

Posted by: Even Stevens at September 21, 2010 1:05 PM

I watched Lone Star and really liked the pilot. Of course, it'll no doubt be canceled soon since the ratings tanked and it's on FOX.

Posted by: Snrub at September 21, 2010 1:09 PM

I haven't watched House for three seasons now, but I would do things to Hugh Laurie that would make Al Swearengen blush.

"I haven't watched House for three seasons now, but I would do things to Hugh Laurie that would make Al Swearengen blush."

Amen sister.

Hey there, we of the Generation of X were the ones who brought you the Flintstones, Brady Bunch and Beverly Hillbillies movies!

Posted by: aud at September 23, 2010 2:38 AM

I'm still tolerating The Event. I DVR it and watch it Friday nights.
But not for much longer if they don't get their sh!t together, and quick. I already hate the Young Man In Love and his stupid flashbacks, but I'm intrigued by the Very Old And Apparently Very Patient Aliens.
Also, I'm not watching any other new shows. Not a single one.
At least not until The Walking Dead starts airing. [Glances at calendar for the nth time]

Precisely what some really good audio players for kids? My cousin is 5 years old and for christmas I'd like to buy her a mp3 player, she loves my nano but I think it could be difficult for her to utilize it. Are there any good ones for kids?
