President Obama Set to Socialize and Communize Your World

By Dustin Rowles | Posted Under Miscellaneous | Comments (86)

obama-climate-legislation.jpg

Despite the fact that there were no televisions shows targeted at our demographic, last night’s first Pajiba After Dark was a success. So, the feature continues. Here are tonight’s highlights and, more importantly, a space below to give y’all a place to shoot the bacon and chew the shit (Yeah, I know I used that line last night, but hell if I didn’t love it).

8:00

— President Obama addresses a Joint Session of Congress (ABC, NBC, CBS)

— “So You Think You Can Dance,” the 6th Season Premiere on FOX

— “America’s Top Model,” the two-hour 13th season premiere over on The CW.

9:00

“Glee,” the season premiere on Fox.

— “Wipeout” over on ABC, for folks who enjoy brain rot.

— “Leverage” the second season finale over on TNT.

10:00

— “Real World,” the 22nd season finale over on MTV (22? Fuck me, I’m old.)

Now...let me thank you for making me feel old. Damn you.

As our Party's Chairman gets ready to address our assembled Soviet my best wishes are with him.

ONWARD COMRADES!

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at September 9, 2009 7:06 PM

Wait, The Real World is 22? Holy duck-fucking. I mean, I've never seen a single episode of it, but I had no idea it was the same fucking age as me. Bastards. Stealing my birthday thunder.

Posted by: the_wakeful at September 9, 2009 7:09 PM

I caught a few episodes of that newest Real World. What can I say? Occasionally I'm a glutton for its television hypnosis, and back in the day when the casting was more interesting I was a fan and dreamed of being on the show. This latest cast might be the least compelling bunch yet.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at September 9, 2009 7:11 PM

Glee!
Squee!

Posted by: Drake at September 9, 2009 7:27 PM

Man, why must Obama speak at the same time as the U.S. Open quarterfinals and premieres of SYTYCD/Glee?
My loyalties have never been so divided.

Posted by: lynx at September 9, 2009 7:27 PM

“America’s Top Model,” the two-hour 13th season premiere over on The CW.

That doesn't make any sense, I remembered when that damn show first came on, and it sure as hell wasn't when I was 4. There should be a law prohibiting Tyra Banks from being on T.V. this much, punishable by the electric chair.

Posted by: George at September 9, 2009 7:29 PM

If you lived on the west coast, there would be no conflict between supporting our supreme leader and catching the shows you want.

Seriously, I tried to be cynical about Glee! returning, given the hype. I rewatched the pilot last week and it had me laughing and crying all over again. Plus, I've heard tonight's episode is even better.

Squee!

Posted by: Drake at September 9, 2009 7:30 PM

Dear Fox:

Fuck your mother.

Sincerely,

TK

Posted by: TK at September 9, 2009 7:35 PM

Drake, despite the obvious attractions of west-coast living, I am wary of waking up for 10 am football. Yikes.

Posted by: lynx at September 9, 2009 7:35 PM

I don't know if it will make anyone feel better, but The Real World premiered in 1992. It's 22 seasons old, NOT 22 years old. They've aired two seasons a year for the past few years.

SYTYCD & Glee = happy times!

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at September 9, 2009 7:36 PM

Becky!!

Posted by: Jay at September 9, 2009 7:50 PM

On admin's tv - HIMYM Season 2, disk 3. I have become convinced that the only way to watch tv is in DVD form.

Posted by: admin at September 9, 2009 7:53 PM

I love a couple of shows on Fox - 24, SYTYCD, but I'll be fucked if I turn on that channel tonight.

Oh, and am I the only one who really didn't care for Glee?

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 7:59 PM

I'm going to be switching between Mythbusters and Ghost Hunters. Presidential speeches make me yawn, ANTM makes me cringe, and Real World makes me want to beat the shit out of The Husband because he insists on watching it.
I'd much rather watch things explode and hear the Ghost Hunters say, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" (and then you take a drink).

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits (aka Dangle McGee) at September 9, 2009 8:02 PM

We have a big football game against Mexico today, so I'll be watching that. And then Glee, and then ANTM (we get our fox station with central time, our CW is from LA so it's all messed up) and then maybe I can do the EE. I wish I were getting drunk.

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 8:10 PM

I thought FOX wasn't gonna air Obama's speech? They're airing it over here. I get a fox station out of Colorado of all places.

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 8:12 PM

Multi-tasking, figgy, multi-tasking! Commercial break? Take a drink. Tyra says something crazy? Take a drink. Read a comment that makes you giggle? Take a drink.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits (aka Dangle McGee) at September 9, 2009 8:14 PM

Fox is not airing it here.

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 8:15 PM

figgy,

Really? They're airing Obama's speech in Honduras? Dontcha have your own politics to worry about?

Posted by: MM at September 9, 2009 8:16 PM

No, no, our cable provider gets a feed from Colorado. And they're showing it here. The FOX News logo in the corner, even!

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 8:26 PM

Hm...

Homework,
I hate to break it to you, but you're gonna have to take another hit tonight. I keep hearing great things about this "Glee" thing and frankly, well, I've never heard a single good thing about you. And we all know truly Pajiban Pajibans and Pajibettes never did a lick of their own homework, so you can go hang out with all the other unfinished homework. Sorry, but I'm an American, and I just have better things to do. Like nothing.
-coryo

Posted by: coryo at September 9, 2009 8:35 PM

I am swooning Mr. President.

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 8:39 PM

coryo, I keep hearing good things about you! (And that's what an italicized exclamation mark looks like. The More You Know.) By about, I mean from. Doing nothing truly is the best.

Posted by: SaBrina at September 9, 2009 8:43 PM

Glee at nine, cannot wait at all for it!
And of course Top Chef at ten, so I'm actually watching TV for a change instead of ranting about Spencer and Heidi on The Hills or Flavor Flav.

Posted by: Kamikaze Feminist at September 9, 2009 8:48 PM

I am in agreement with the excitement about Glee, although I probably won't catch it til it goes online.

Posted by: Ruby at September 9, 2009 8:57 PM

Aah wait, they just cut it off at 8 so they could start So You Think You Can Dance.

Huh.

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 9:01 PM

I'm excited for another season of crazy Tyra. And this season's hopeless cause, short models! Aka, average person height.

Posted by: DoubleH at September 9, 2009 9:04 PM

Top Chef has become wholly unwatchable for me. Colliccio is the biggest asshole on Cable after O'Reilly and Hannity. It became apparent to me that I could never go back after Top Chef Masters, what an awesome little competition that was, the competitors were pure class and the judges were true critics, not some mush-mouthed bimbo.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at September 9, 2009 9:14 PM

What the hell happened to the page?

DON'T LIKE.

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 9:33 PM

I am looking forward to SYTYCD, though it's only going to make me detest Leah Miller even more. I wish we had Cat hosting the Canadian version. Or a stuffed beaver. Anything, really.

I know it's No Whining Wednesday, so to prevent myself from poo-pooing the new header, I am stuffing my mouth with a sock!

Muur melcome.

Posted by: Lauren at September 9, 2009 9:35 PM

Scary new front page (although, as long as there are no more pics of that human centipede freakfest, I'm good).

Everything feels so ominous. Are we evil now?

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 9:36 PM

I'm so glad it's not just me. I refreshed the page 2 or 3 times wondering what on earth was wrong. I knew you lot would be able to enlighten me. Or at least show that I'm not just going crazy.

Posted by: Gabs at September 9, 2009 9:42 PM

Wait, I get it. We're vampires now, right?

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 9:44 PM

Everything feels so ominous. Are we evil now?

So, we weren't evil before?

I agree, though, that this design is somehow ominous.

Posted by: MM at September 9, 2009 9:44 PM

Oh thank goodness y'all see it too. Do. Not. Like.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at September 9, 2009 9:46 PM

I think we were like zombie fun evil. Now we feel like Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer evil.

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 9:49 PM

On a good note though, there's a dictionary link.

And it does actually look sharp and more professional. Is that what you were going for Overlords?

Unless they deserve it.

So isthe picture up there changing, or is that just me?

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 11:10 PM

fucking bastard Mexicans I hope they all burn in hell. Baaaaaaaaaaah!

Am gonna go lose my brain to Tyra for two hours. I love how she claims she's "revolutionizing the modeling industry" by allowing shorties on the show. As if the winner of ANTM wasn't doomed to complete and utter failure anyway, they had to go and reduce their chances of ever getting a job even more. Oh, Tyra. You Queen of Clowns.

Posted by: figgy at September 9, 2009 11:11 PM

it seems to be the same pic.

so did you just slur that? or was i projecting again?

Posted by: gp at September 9, 2009 11:14 PM

Oh, Obama.
You knocked it out of the park (mostly).

Joe Wilson, you are a dumb twat.

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 11:21 PM

OK, the header stuff is growing on me. Can we get some Sisters of Mercy in here?

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 11:25 PM

oh yeah, that one DID change.
i thought you were referring to the obama pic (and a nice one it is, homeland security)

here's you some sisters of mercy. i chose More because i thought more people would dig it than, say, lucretia, my reflection.

I love me some Sisters.

Posted by: Cindy at September 9, 2009 11:37 PM

The part where the ad above the header now reads: "whatever leader you follow...", (and ignoring the second line that is clearly meant as a ruse), kinda makes the new design even more ominous, or at least amusingly ironic, given that I'm currently assuming that the ad was coincidental.

I feel all socialized now with Obama's special brand of marxistnazimuslum hypno speechafying...
It was a good speech.
Good times with Republicans bringing the crazytrain AND the best part was FOX not having the Republican response on so i could switch to GLEE! after the President was done explaining again that he does not plan on killing Grandma...but there might be a dead fish in Joe Wilson's future.

Posted by: Jules at September 9, 2009 11:52 PM

Excellent speech. Clear and pretty damn reasonable.

Now I get go to hear all my Republican friends bitch about it tomorrow. I swear, if I hear them use the phrase "Socialist Death Panels" in a serious context again, I'm probably going to start me some stabbin'.

figgy, Honduras plays that game against the U.S. at home so I think they have a decent chance at a good result, though I think they will tie. Honduras should then beat El Salvador to take the third spot. Otherwise, I think you will be playing Argentina. Not good.

The problem is that Costa Rica and Mexico still get a game with TNT. Likely wins for El Tri and the Ticos. You will probably need help from the U.S. to beat Costa Rica who has been falling hard lately.

Posted by: L.O.V.E. at September 10, 2009 2:13 AM

Well, since figgy mentioned the South Africa playoffs, I think I should mention that Chile is pretty much in. Yes, we lost to Brazil today (4-2, and Brazil's last two goals were FUCKING DUMB), but we're second or third in our group. Our chances of getting in are over 90%!

P.S: Eat shit, Maradona! You have one of the best teams and you're this close to being left out. Go find some comfort in a Big Mac, you overappreciated pile of crap.

/Soccer mode off.

Hey, um, did anyone else think that the musical numbers in the new episode of Glee sounded . . . bad?

In the pilot, they sounded a little more live, and in this it sounded very obviously recorded? I mean, I know it's ALL recorded, I'm not expecting live performances or anything, but like the whole thing was lip-synced, badly?

Also, SYTYCD was awesome and I love the bald tapping guy (Ryan?). He is oddly attractive. He can tap that anytime. (You know I couldn't NOT say it)

Posted by: MyySharona (formerly Sharon) at September 10, 2009 2:42 AM

Wait a damn minute. Glee is GOOD?!? I was under the impression that it was High School Musical for the 18+ crowd.

I might have to stop giving my girlfriend shit for watching it now. Which means that she's right about something a-fucking-gain. Swear on baby jesus' eyes, I should trust her the same as I do wikipedia. The woman is nearing infallibility.

Anyone know of cash Trivial Pusuit games I can get her in on?

England are through... Bring on South Africa... The countdown begins... More football(predominantly foot based and round ball type) on Pajiba can never be a bad thing.

Posted by: jim of the lower case at September 10, 2009 4:20 AM

I have no idea what Glee is about, it's barely on the radar over here. Scratch that, it probably is somewhere, I'm just too old to notice.

I like the new page layout so far, seems like less ads (or at least less annoyingly situated), just less cluttered. Plus, Star Trekky, always good.

You get Colorado TV in Honduras but my cable provider (Comfuck) axed the PBS station down the road from me from the basic basic package this year because it doesn't fall in Comfuck's local market area (Pittsburgh).

BTW, an upcoming Weekend Diversion will ask you to rant at length about your cable/Internet provider.

It's not the second-season finale of Leverage - it's on a break, like Rachel & Ross. There will be more of season 2 in January.

Yes, Obama did a good job with that speech. I feel reassured and I don't even live there! But no doubt the morons are sharpening their knives...

Posted by: Tarn at September 10, 2009 11:32 AM

I have to applaud whoever edited that bit about Ryan's smiley face butt tattoo on SYTYCD--had me busting a gut when they freeze framed that shot of him doing the "sizzling" move. Seems like he'd be a fabulous actor too.

But by far my favorite, favorite moment was the very first audition they showed. My sister and I have been developing theories about people's dancing abilities based on what they say beforehand--and saying you're "unique" and "have your own style" always, ALWAYS means massive suck. But this guy--he blew right past suck and all the way back to AWESOME. No music, lots of contorted posturing and the odd utterance of random verbs ("Shatter! Shatter!") made this the best fucking audition ever. I was literally screaming with laughter. Called my sis and she was doing the same thing--we couldn't even have a conversation, we just guffawed into the phone for a while and hung up.

I was still giggling this morning. Thanks, Contortionist-goddamnit-i'm-a-serious-
misunderstood-dancer Dude.

Also, the really good dancer who chose to wear a loincloth-thingy to his audition? NO. Don't ever wear that again. I don't want to see every vein in your package as you jump around--it's distracting and not in a good way.

Lost - needs no recommendation, if you aren't watching it by now you're either waiting for it all to finish or never gonna.
Justified - The pilot came up a bit short of my admittedly high expectations, but not nearly enough to dissuade me.
Parenthood - The last episode was pretty unfortunate, but I have hope the writers will move away from relying entirely on cloying sentimentality.
V - I cannot believe how bad the writing is on this show. The pilot was ATROCIOUS. Considering the great talent they were working with (Juliette, Inara, Wash) the embarassment is compounded.
