Pajiba After Dark: For the Record, This Was Kind of a Dick Move

Today is Thursday which means that I got woken up by the delightful noise of my complex’s dumpster being emptied (how is it that it’s always so far away when you’re carrying trash but sounds SO CLOSE when they dump it?) and as far as television goes it means next to nothing anymore. However, I know you “So You Think You Can Dance” fans are legion and there’s another audition episode on tonight so that’s, you know, auditiony. Also the second game of the NBA Finals but I’m not sure how popular the Dallas Mavericks are and I know that most people following the Heat are doing so more out of hatred of LeBron James or the idea that the team was able to manipulate the free agent system to basically buy themselves a Finals appearance than actual appreciation. I am not one of those people. Here’s your Thursday night TV:

8:00pm: “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night” on ABC

“So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox

8:30pm: “NBA Countdown” on ABC

9:00pm: “NBA Finals, Game 2” on ABC

“The First 48” on A&E

“Sons of Perdition” on OWN

“Police Women” on TLC

“Smoking Gun Presents: World’s Smartest Inventions 4” on TruTV. 11th season premiere.

10:00pm: “24 Hour Restaurant Battle” on Food Network

“The First 48: Missing Persons” on A&E. Series premiere.

“Love Bites” on NBC. Series premiere.

“NY Ink” on TLC. Series premiere. Ami James of “Miami Ink” fame stars in another reality series about tattooing set in a new city. I used to work near Love/Hate Tattoos (the “Miami Ink” shop) and can confirm that Mr.James is that attractive in real life, since the one time I actually spoke to him I ended up giggling and stammering a lot which made me embarrassed which led to more stammering. Anyway, I wish him the best of luck with the new show.

“Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew” on MTV

“The Real Housewives of New York City” on Bravo

“Swords: Life in the Line” on Discovery

11:00pm: “Son of a Gun” on MTV

“Watch What Happens” on Bravo. I don’t get this show, is it like a talk show but only on sometimes? I thought it started as an after show for those awful Real Housewives shows but now it’s just on? I don’t care enough to watch what happens so I’ll just handle my confusion some other way. Like ignoring it.

Late Night Listings

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC featuring Jason Sudeikis, Piers Morgan, and Lykke Li

“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS featuring Dick Van Dyke and Kristin Gore

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Tim Tebow

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Salman Khan

“Chelsea Lately” on E featuring Piper Perabo, Matt Braunger, Josh Wolf, and Heather McDonald

You're missing the season premiere of one of the best comedies on television, Childrens Hospital. I don't want to get into an argument about it. I just want you to know.

Intern Rusty, while generally I would rather get a sharp stick in the eye than watch the insufferable LeBron preen and pose on the court like the egomaniac that he is, tonight I will watch that game. But I am definitely recording my beloved SYTYCD in case I need positive TV therapy later tonight. That said, perhaps you don't understand the NBA. Many people are not watching because they hate LeBron and therefore follow the Heat. They hate LeBron. Period. They will cheer on any team that opposes him. It is a lagniappe that the heretofore collapsible Mavs could be their nemesis this year. If there is any justice and truth in the Universe, that is what will happen.

Funny how people hate Lebron because their team wasn't able to land Lebron. And I'm loving every minute of it.

Lebron might not have played in Cleveland in the first place if it weren't for the NBA forcing players to enter a draft where you have to play for the team that picks you. I'm fine with the logic of having a draft. But at some point you have to let players decide where to play themselves.

What 25 year old, rich, single person wouldn't want to live in a big city with nice weather and the opportunity to work along side other people at the top of your profession? If anything I applaud Lebron for being true to himself and doing what he wants instead of being loyal simply to appease other people.

Dave, stick with writing about something you have knowledge of. No one is mad at LeBron about choosing another city to play for. Disappointed, yes. That is not the source of people's fury. They are furious he 1)threw game 5 of the previous playoffs and 2) conspired in violation of the rules with Bosh, Wade, and Pat Riley to form a team together in Miami while leading on Chicago, New York and Cleveland that he was seriously considering them. Get a clue. And David Stern turns a blind eye, may his weiner fall off from a terrible disease.

I have no hate for LeBron, though the Decision was pretty clearly a dick move. Still pulling for the Mavs though, because I loves me some Dirk Nowitzki. (Am I allowed to cheer for the big, goofy looking white guy, or is that some kind of subtle racism?) I always liked D-Wade too, ever since he pretty much single-handedly destroyed Pitt in the NCAA tourney, but he got his ring. It's Dirk's time now.

Listen sweetie, yes, I’m being sarcastic and condescending. The mere fact that you would cavalierly throw out that Lebron threw game 5 in last year’s playoffs tells me all I need to know about your knowledge of basketball. Lebron averaged damn near a triple-double during that series. And if you didn’t know, a triple-double means he had double digits in points, assists, and rebounds. AND he TOOK the Cavaliers to two 60 plus regular season wins along with a finals appearance. AND he’s a two time MVP AND a scoring champion. Exactly what rules did David Stern supposedly turn a blind eye to? Do you mean the rule that says you must play out your contract before being allowed to become a free agent, which Lebron followed to the letter of the law? Or the rule that states a free agent can sign with any team he or she wants to, which all three followed to the letter of the law? Now as far as Pat Riley, honey please, Riley builds championship teams. He’s done that his entire coaching career, and players want to play for a coach that wins rings. Funny though, where are your tears for players that get cut for whatever reason? Chicago, New York, and Cleveland pursued Lebron, Wade, and Bosh with zeal and gusto. But unfortunately they came up short, and to say that they were being mislead shows your lack of knowledge and or naiveté about basketball and free agency.

There seems to be so many blogs on this same topic it is mindboggling. Just imagine if you all got together and wrote together – it would be like some sort of maniacal blog. Just a thought. Thanks for posting.
