Are You Not Entertained by Tuesday Night? Try This!

Pajiba After Dark / Intern Rusty

Miscellaneous | February 9, 2010 | Comments (19)

We’ve arrived once again at Tuesday, so I figured I’d share my new TV addiction with all of you who aren’t watching “American Idol” or “Lost” to give you something to fill your evening with: “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” on Starz. Now, I don’t get Starz, but Netflix has each episode on Instant Watch the day after it airs. There’s three episodes up right now. The dialogue is terrible, the story line is almost directly ripped from Gladiator (there was actually a point in the first episode where I was waiting for Spartacus to yell “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?” at the crowd) and the effects are like someone tried to make 300 in their basement with about $500 worth of effects software, and there’s gratuitous nudity thrown in for kicks, but damn if the show isn’t entertaining. Between the blood spatter effects that are reminiscent of the old “Mortal Kombat” arcade games and the growling delivery of every other line that’s not barked the show is such a delightful mess that I can’t stop watching it. I actually can’t wait for the next episode to hit the internet. Anyway, if there’s nothing else down here that you’re interested in watching, I encourage all of you to take a look. Here’s Tuesday:

8:00pm: “American Idol: Hollywood Round, Part 1” on Fox. Hey, guess what starts this weekend? The Olympics. I was totally half right about Fox holding onto Hollywood until the Olympics started. Go me!

“The Biggest Loser” on NBC

“NCIS” on CBS

“Nova: Extreme Cave Diving” on PBS

9:00pm: “19 Kids and Counting” on TLC. The newest baby has already been on the cover of a magazine several weeks before her actual due date with the oxygen tube still in her wee undeveloped nose. I find something absolutely tragic and appalling about that, but I guess it’s par for the course for the Duggars.

“Dirty Jobs: Bone Black” on Discovery

“Lost” on ABC

“NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS

“Past Life” on Fox. Series premiere. I think this show is about some lady who solves murders by looking into people’s past lives? I’m honestly not 100% sure, but I know it involves past lives and murder from the commercials.

10:00pm: “The Forgotten” on ABC

“The Good Wife” on CBS

“Howe and Howe Tech” on Discovery. First season finale. I feel like this show has been on for all of a month.

“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC. Series Finale. I like that this finale is getting shuffled off onto a Tuesday night when Conan at least got to finish out the week. Not that it makes the situation any better.

“Millionaire Matchmaker” on Bravo

“Paranormal State” on A&E

“Shatner’s Raw Nerve” on Bio. Second season finale, and the guest is Jerry Springer because he’s totally still relevant, right?

“Teen Mom: Unseen Moments” on MTV. Look, all the crap that wasn’t worth including in the first run of the show! Goody.

“White Collar” on USA

Lost is all that matters. Hot men. Warm temps. Time travel. What more could anyone want?

Posted by: Cindy at February 9, 2010 7:24 PM

The White Collar dude is hot.

Yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say about anything tonight

Genny darling, you're missing the best part about Spartacus: MAN PRETTY. Lots and lots of man pretty! Growling, leather-bound, muscley, oiled-up man pretty. Man on man wrestling with the winner walking away glistening with sweat and victory man pretty! Hell yeah I am entertained...IN THE PANTS!

Posted by: Jeremy Feist at February 9, 2010 7:36 PM

I like this "pajiba after dark" thing, mostly because I use "myepisodes.com" as my own day planner and it's always nice to know what other people are watching, but I wish you would make a big deal about the mindfuck that is Lost. This show is a modern day version of epic poetry. I'd burn my copy of the Iliad to find out what is up with this creepy Island at this point.

Oh, and first, I think!

Posted by: Candie at February 9, 2010 7:36 PM

Oh, trust me, Jeremy, I'm not missing the man pretty. I am 100% aware of the man pretty. I just wanted to phrase my review in a way that even those who cannot appreciate man pretty might give it a shot. But yeah, the show is pretty damn easy on the eyes.

My apologies, Candie, but as I've mentioned before I've actually never seen "Lost". Daniel Carlson, though, does wonderful review of each episode where you can find plenty of other fans who will analyze the show to death with you.

Candie first? Tell me you were being retro-ironic or something.

Y'ALL KNOW I'M WATCHING THE SHIT OUT OF TEEN MOM. YOU KNOW IT! I'M WATCHIN' IT! YEAH!

And hey, new season of 16 and Preggo starts next week, including a girl pregnant with twins and a girl who has a boyfriend DENYING it's his. DRAMA.

Mr. Rowles, what is this about cleaning out my cookies? That's rather FRESH of you, young man. That's rather FORWARD. Why, I'm old enough to be your.....older sister or something! I'll thank you to refrain from discussing my cookies.

After what Jeremy said, I need to check that show out.

So, about this "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" dude in the header picture: he looks confusingly like Sam Worthington. Yet, I highly doubt he is Sam Worthington, because SW is clearly too busy to be on a weekly TV show.

And yes, man-pretty. Plus, Lucy Lawless nude! (So I've heard?) But don't you have to pay for Starz *separately*, like HBO and Showtime? As my friend and I like to say, "Fuck that, man. Man, fuck that."

I don't watch lost and the good wife so Tuesday nights are like a license to do something productive. I miss Better Off Ted - Scrubs laziness.

On Spartacus: Brother dude from The Mummy banging Xena: Warrior Princess makes me uncomfortable.

Posted by: arrrghzi at February 9, 2010 8:15 PM

LOST! So I'm in Hawaii with no cable so, yes, I fully intend to stay up until 2am or 1am or whenever the episode will be up on Hulu because I. Cannot. Wait.

Posted by: coveredinbees at February 9, 2010 9:07 PM

Oh, now I get the cookie cleaning joke.. .

Posted by: coveredinbees at February 9, 2010 9:08 PM

Brother dude from The Mummy Ahhhhhhh!!! John Hannah! You of the heartbreaking Auden poetry eulogy! You of the Monty Python-quoting only redemption to that stupid Gwyneth Paltrow movie. YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS.

I love Spartacus B+S. Netflix is the source for those that don't have Starz (which I don't) If you don't have netflix then you'll just have to imagine all the cartoon violence and veiled homoerotica of 3oo in a weekly serial. I also enjoy the slave chick nudity, but that's just me. All that being said, I am intrigued by the development of the characters. Crixus is actually developing some side characterization so he is more than just the foil for Spartacus. And Batiatus interests me. What are his motives? Just money? Lucy Lawless plays against the Xena type. She is very feminine and sexy but also decaying, both morally and physically. I think there will be more in this series as it develops.

Spartacus: Brother dude from The Mummy banging Xena: Warrior Princess makes me uncomfortable.

HAHA!

...I'm glad it's not just me.

It confuses me.

"LOST"!!!!!

"LOOOOOOOOOST"!!!!!!!!!

O Thou most sanctified CRAP, I love this show!!!!

P.S. I love Sawyer.
P.P.S. I hate Kate.
P.P.P.S. I cannot WAIT for Carlson's review so that we can talk about it!!!

Posted by: Jelinas at February 10, 2010 12:47 AM

All I have to say is that the brilliant gleaming light in my totally Home Depot loving lezzie boss's eye when I described Lucy being "serviced" by a slave in a sheer red lace/silk shift and then the crushed look from the texted response from her partner being a condescending "" That's nice dear"" (partner quotes included) makes this series full of win. Even lesbians get crap for enjoying gratuitous boobs, glorious as they be...

Posted by: slaveofthepage at February 10, 2010 3:41 AM

Xena nudity aside, Spratacus sucked ass. and not in that fun, spanky way.

Posted by: protoguy at February 10, 2010 5:39 AM

coveredinbees, is it anything like the amount of uncomfortable that was heaped on me when The Joker and Donnie Darko were banging on a mountain?

Posted by: A-schaef at February 10, 2010 6:41 AM

You of the Monty Python-quoting only redemption to that stupid Gwyneth Paltrow movie.

coveredinbees, you are truly my newest PBFF (Pajiba Best Friend Foreva)!

...although, if I may be truly shamed, I must admit I adore the shit out of that movie. Seriously. Paltrow or no Paltrow, that movie makes my brain's day.
