No Capes!

Welcome to the beginning of the mid-season replacement extravaganza! Where all the shows that weren’t given a shot in September come back to plead their case by stepping over the corpses of their fallen comrades. And, of course, I get a whole new slate of shows to mock, so it almost looks like I have fresh material for a couple weeks. Hooray! Here’s your Sunday night TV and feel free to rate the shows in the comments, Olympic Gymnastic Judge style (by which I mean bribes are not only welcomed, but encouraged. ARE YOU LISTENING NBC? I HAVE STUDENT LOANS!):

7:00pm: “60 Minutes” on CBS

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” on ABC

“Dateline NBC” on NBC

8:00pm: “Basketball Wives” on VH1

“CSI: Miami” on CBS

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” on ABC

“Food Network Challenge” on Food Network

“Jerserylicious” on Style

“Nature: Elsa’s Legacy: The Born Free Story” on PBS

“Ask Oprah’s All Stars #2” on OWN

“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC. This show is apparently being cancelled, but no official reason for it’s cancellation is forthcoming. Probably just because I heard it’s boring as shit, but whatever.

“The Simpsons” on Fox

8:30pm: “Bob’s Burgers” on Fox. Series premiere. Wait, what? An animated show airing on Fox on Sunday night that’s not a Seth MacFarlane property? Must be a mistake. Though you won’t catch me complaining about more H. Jon Benjamin on my TV.

9:00pm: “Ax Men” on History

“Bridalplasty” on E

“Californication” on Showtime. Fourth season premiere.

“The Cape” on NBC. Two hour series premiere on a special night. Any thoughts on this? Kind of looks like “Heroes” but with far less extraneous characters. Still, always remember what Edna Mode said about capes. I don’t see a long future here.

“Desperate Housewives” on ABC

“Family Guy” on Fox

“Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane” on Style

“Masterpiece: Downton Abbey” on PBS. 41st season premiere.

“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC. Series finale.

“Undercover Boss” on CBS

“What Chilli Wants” on VH1

“The Wild Within: Off the Grid Alaska” on Travel. Series premiere.

“Worst Cooks in America” on Food Network

9:30pm: “Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business” on VH1

“The Cleveland Show” on Fox

“Episodes” on Showtime. Series premiere.

10:00pm: “Iron Chef America” on Food Network

“Kendra” on E

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” on Bravo

“Rich Bride, Poor Bride” on WE. Um… is this as terrible as it sounds or am I being unnecessarily judgy?

“Shameless” on Showtime. Series premiere.

“William, Kate, and 8 Royal Weddings” on TLC

“Top Gear” on History

“Brothers and Sisters” on ABC

11:45pm: “Robot Chicken” on Adult Swim. Fifth season premiere.

Speculatively speaking, if Palin decides to run in 2012 and she still has a show, that equal time rule thing kicks in on TLC, and even they wouldn't stoop so low as to give every presidential candidate seven weeks on the schedule (for reference, see Fred Dalton Thompson on Law & Order).

While I loved Dr. Katz, Professoinal Therapist, I think Bob's Burger's looks absolutely dreadful. I haven't seen a commercial for it yet that makes me want to tune in.

Don't forget Downton Abbey tonight on PBS! I, for one, am ridiculously excited about some turn of the century British goodness. It's showing at 9:00 in my area.

I'm sure this is the last we'll ever hear from Sarah Palin.

It's impossible for me to see Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist without my brain translating it into Dr. Katz, Medicine Woman.
Eh, whatever, I take my giggles where I can get them.

I forced myself to watch five minutes of Palin's show. It was basically "Oh, see, isn't that pretty? Now let's talk about me" for the sample time.

If I wanted that drivel, I'd watch Fox 'News.'

Most recent polling indicates that Palin has about the same electability as an otter carcass right now.

Moving along to the Sunday night lineup: The Cape has already spawned (see what I did there?) an imitator. The news earlier this week spoke of some lunatic in a luchador mask and cape who foiled a carjacking. Yeah ... I'm sure the police are just effing THRILLED by having this guy on the scene.

The Seth MacFarlane Cavalcade of Mediocrity soldiers on, and I have to agree with elsie - the burger cartoon doesn't appeal, based on the ads.

History Channel? Bite my ass. Bite it hard and start actually programming things about, you know, actual history. You know - just for a change, okay? You are in danger of being relegated to the ash heap of cable along with 'Discovery' and The 'Learning Channel.'

The only real bright spots in the lineup that I can see are Iron Chef America and Robot Chicken.

Yay, Californication!
It doesn't come on until Monday in my neck of the woods, sadly. Stupid Movie Central.

Having seen the debut of The Cape, I agree with Edna. MEH!

Have not watched "The Cape" yet, but would be happy to give up my superheroic review at a later time.

I'd like to nominate "Otter Carcass" as the next Fake Band name.

The Cape was entertaining if only for the montage of the main character flailing his arms around trying to look intimidating. Hilarious!

Also, the surprise and welcome addition of TOBY!!!!! I heard him before I saw his face, and I thought, "Man, that sounds exactly like Toby- OH MY GOD!!"

Posted by: denesteak at January 10, 2011 11:29 AM

Oh she'll be back...the Palin WILL be back. Just you wait.

Posted by: Ilmarien at January 10, 2011 4:08 PM

I did not HATE "The Cape". More later.
