Mmm, Sushi Cake. Time for Tastebud Confusion.

I get the impression from some of the comments I read last night that a few people are unclear on how Pajiba After Dark works, so I’ll explain; All the shows I list are new shows. I don’t list re-runs (otherwise this would be FOREVER long, which I know, because half of what I watch in the evening is re-runs) and I try to list shows which would be of interest to Pajibans or otherwise noteworthy. For example, I do frequently list shows that I hate simply to remind myself that they exist and all is not right in the world. If I’m not listing something that’s 1. New and 2. Interesting, pipe up in the comments and let people know about it. I really appreciated Drake’s tip last night about the Pixar shorts on ABC Family and I’m sure a lot of you out there did as well. Also, I have been known to adjust what I put here based on commenter input, since I do read all the comments on these articles. So, with that in mind, here’s what you can immerse yourself in this Thursday night:

8:00 p.m.: “Bones” on FOX.

“Community” on NBC.

“Flash Forward” on ABC.

“New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (in Toronto)” on the NFL Network.

“Science of the Movies: Puppet Meisters - The Magic Behind Team America: World Police” on Science.

“Survivor” on CBS.

8:30 p.m.: “Parks and Recreation” on NBC.

9:00 p.m.: “Fringe” on FOX.

“The Jeff Dunham Show” on Comedy.

“The Office” on NBC.

“Private Practice” on ABC, which is airing back-to-back episodes at “a special time” so I guess there’s no “Grey’s Anatomy” this week. I usually watch “Grey’s” on Saturday morning through the Hulu while battling a hangover, so it’s not a huge loss for me.

9:30 p.m.: “30 Rock” on NBC.

10:00 p.m.: “Ace of Cakes” on Food Network. 8th Season premiere. I watch this show occasionally mostly to show support to Baltimore-based businesses, and a lot of the cakes are pretty nifty too. It’s just that once you see them make one cake, you’ve kind of seen it all, you know?

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” on FX.

“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.

“Jersey Shore” on MTV. I know some of you have been waiting for it, so here it is. Tonight’s the premiere episode. Enjoy every last tacky, guido-filled minute of it.

Jersey Shore you can't come soon enough. I have been practicing my fist pump by fist pumpin' everywheres for the past week. I'm ready.

Everything better be amazing to fill the void that was left when I didn't have my thursday night stories last week. Community and Sunny, how I missed you.

Posted by: michaelceratops at December 3, 2009 7:12 PM

@michaelceratops

I absolutely love your handle.

Posted by: ashes at December 3, 2009 7:21 PM

kind of sounds dirty..."I love your handle", no?

Posted by: ashes at December 3, 2009 7:22 PM

i like Jeff Dunham.

Posted by: Utah Dynamo at December 3, 2009 7:27 PM

You missed The League on FX. It's surprisingly decent.

Posted by: trippdup at December 3, 2009 7:28 PM

“Science of the Movies: Puppet Meisters - The Magic Behind Team America: World Police” on Science.

“The Jeff Dunham Show” on Comedy.

I would make a joke that the latter should watch the former, but I thought it kinda obvious.

Posted by: Smoking Crater (formerly Vermillion) at December 3, 2009 7:33 PM

I second The League.

Posted by: a girl called ed at December 3, 2009 7:34 PM

Third "The League" - it's quickly moving up my list of new favorite shows!

Posted by: Lainey at December 3, 2009 7:43 PM

Sunny and League cuz FX just gets me

Posted by: Klempenski at December 3, 2009 8:02 PM

Survivor should be pretty awesome tonight, right Cindy?

Oooo...Ace of Cakes premiere. After settling for the awful Cake Boss these past few weeks, I could use some new competence in my pastry-TV viewing.

Especially since I might be dealing with that Buddy guy in a few months. Rumor has it he's expressed interest in donating a cake for the memorial softball tournament my family runs in honor of my late cousin. As a counterpoint, I've offered up the rumor that I would be willing to put up my own money to order a cake from a lesser known but far less obnoxious decorator that wouldn't result in possibly shilling for a c-rate reality show. If the show gets involved, I will not be at the event in person. I have standards in my fame-whoring: Sy-Fy or better, thank you very much.

Posted by: Robert at December 3, 2009 8:17 PM

“Science of the Movies: Puppet Meisters - The Magic Behind Team America: World Police” on Science.

Fuck Yeah! (I just couldn't help myself.)

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at December 3, 2009 8:20 PM

OMG...Scott's Tots...and they are doing a rap/dance number...

I just might pee from the giggles...

I am so frustrated right now and finally have the time (and drunken gumption) to post about it. My stupid effing cat, for the third, THIRD, THIRD time knocked a god damned glass of water over on my laptop and fried it. Thankfully, this time it lived, as I have no $$ for replacing all of its guts, AGAIN. I am supremely lucky it's alive at all. But, I have no sound. I also have no TV, so all of my mindless entertainment has disappeared. Every show I even gave two shits about: gone; the recaps on Pajiba: must skip; movies, fuggedaboutit. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhh

But suddenly, with nothing to watch + the delurking thread = I'm posting like I never have before....I'm a maniac MANIAAAAC

Posted by: the bees knees at December 3, 2009 10:48 PM

Gumption is remarkably fun to say out loud.

Posted by: the bees knees at December 3, 2009 10:52 PM

Oh Notes I have never felt sadder/more amused than tonight. Michael Scott is going to hell and he will burn most fiercely. I was cringing and crying and laughing and oh...poor, poor Dwight. And how adorable was it to hear "Pam Halpert" for the first time?

And...

I'M A STAR, I'M ON TOP! SOMEBODY BRING ME SOME HAAAAM!

Posted by: figgy at December 3, 2009 11:00 PM

I'm late to the party, but it was good figgy. I was a bit nervous at the end - Mick and Jaison working an angle. Looks like they'll be plotting next week as well. I'm hopeful Russell will be able to talk Shambo down; I think he will.

Posted by: Cindy at December 3, 2009 11:33 PM

Oh, so sad! I had a fundraiser to attend this evening, and so I missed Bones, and The Office, and, possibly worst of all, Jersey Shore.

Luckily, they'll rerun that last one 52,763 times, I'm sure.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at December 3, 2009 11:35 PM

No matter what I say, It's never enough to bait someone into verbally fondling me. please, someone fondle me. I guarantee I'll regret it in the morning.

Posted by: the bees knees at December 3, 2009 11:40 PM

OMG Jersey Shore, you were everything I hoped for. I feel like I just had dirty, bang-against-the-wall hair-pulling sex that I know in the morning will leave me regretful and positive for an STD. I cannot wait to do it again next week.

Posted by: Lindsay at December 4, 2009 12:03 AM

Oh, the bees knees, I love to say gumption aloud. Also, cats are assholes. You ARE a maniaaaaac!

P.s.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at December 4, 2009 12:07 AM

Both my cats are assholes, the one who keeps wrecking my computer is the NICE one, the other one just tries to eat my face while I sleep. Great, now I'm the crazy cat lady. Fuck.

Posted by: the bees knees at December 4, 2009 12:14 AM

Oh, gaddamnit. That said fondle fondle in brackets, but I used less than/greater than signs, and stupid whatever didn't stupid read it right. Stupid.

{fondle fondle} @ The Bees Knees

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at December 4, 2009 12:15 AM

And, don't worry, for I too am a crazy cat lady. Listen, the world needs our kind. It's fine.

I have a total plan. I am going to have a bathrobe full of pockets in which I will store cats to fling at people while I mutter in gibberish. It's going to be AWESOME.

Possibly even more awesome than me going to sleep right now.

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at December 4, 2009 12:17 AM

“Science of the Movies: Puppet Meisters - The Magic Behind Team America: World Police” on Science. Yeah, I watched it! Totally nerded out tonight! And what's with the host guys haircut? That is the worst haircut I've ever seen. Looks like he had an accident with a flowbee and then went to hair cuttery to get it fixed. Yikes!

Posted by: trixie at December 4, 2009 2:49 AM

Another hoorah for The League

Posted by: Alex at December 4, 2009 3:16 AM

Hmmmmmmm, I wanna pie made from Tina Fey topped of with whipped Alec..

Posted by: Magiel at December 4, 2009 5:08 AM

There should be a linky-poo for Pajiba After Dark in the "miscellany" category in the header.

Last night's tv was just fodder. Nothing necessary, but still. God I wish Fringe was better so I could look at Joshua Jackson (RIP) and get more out of it than eyecandy.

Posted by: Soda at December 4, 2009 6:37 AM

The Office was pretty horrible. The Scott's Tots storyline was ok, but stupid even for Michael. But the Dwight's Plan plot was just awful. The Office is usually a lot smarter than that, it was like a really bad Three's Company episode. The whole plan could have unraveled easily but no one was asking the right questions or saying the right things. Ugh. If this is the direction they are heading this season (Dwight and Ryan trying to take down Jim) than it is going to SUCK.

Posted by: TylerDFC at December 4, 2009 7:14 AM

Yes, cats are assholes. That's what makes them AWESOME. You just have to work around their annoying traits. the bees knees, I suggest one of those cups with lids and built in straws--keeps the computer safe, plus they can't dip their paws in.

I was only able to catch bits and pieces of the Fox Thursday line-up, but I have to say, the scene in Bones where they're soaking the body in beer to remove the excess flesh and the eyeball separates from the skull with a little "bloop" sound made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. The show is ridiculous, but it's super fun.

Walter getting lost on Fringe was heartbreaking. As was the scene where he sees that Astrid got hurt and blames himself. That guy knows how to make me cry. I haven't watched all the shows, so is there some reason they don't give the guy a cell phone? Given that he couldn't remember he was carrying a list of phone numbers, I guess it wouldn't be much use.

Posted by: DeadBessie at December 4, 2009 8:59 AM

@ the bees knees

The situation you describe is exactly why every glass in my house is made of ridiculously heavy, thick glass. It is so that cats cannot knock them over unless they are really, really trying. I have had more spills on phones, computers, my mattress just as I am laying down for the night, clothes, my couch, you name it. Cats can totally suck...but then they purr, and I love them again.

Posted by: NotesOnMyBathroomMirror at December 4, 2009 9:07 AM

Well, I suggested marking things as re-runs, because you put up Modern Family. I got my hopes up, only to find out that both episodes were re-runs.

I'm not asking you to put up everything that is a re-run. But some fact-checking might help.

Posted by: BAM at December 4, 2009 10:06 AM

And here is where I issue my apology. I could've sworn I saw that in Wednesday's "P.A.D." but after further review, I was mistaken.

Sorry Intern Rusty. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: BAM at December 4, 2009 10:09 AM

Rusty, et. al., you are most welcome. As I said elsewhere, I wouldn't have known if it weren't for our local newspaper TV critic.

And, I am happy to promote Pixar, despite their Disney connection.
