Tuesday's Child is Full of Grace, But Tuesday's TV Definitely Isn't

For a couple weeks this fall I had a standing appointment on Monday nights. Recently, it got moved to Tuesday which was better for me for so many reasons, but one of them is that there’s not much I’m concerned about missing on TV on Tuesday nights. That’s not to say that I schedule my life around TV (Not since “Battlestar Galactica” ended anyway) but it helps. Although I am interested in “The Prisoner”, I think I’ll end up watching that all at once online (is it available online yet? And if so, where?). For those of you who aren’t working or spending the night catching up on Cannonball reading (I just finished my 4th book last night!) here’s your entertainment options:

8:00 p.m.: “90210” on The CW.

“BBC America Special: Being Neil Armstrong” on BBCA.

“Merry Madagascar” on NBC.

“NCIS” on CBS.

“The Prisoner” on AMC.

“So You Think You Can Dance” on FOX.

“V” on ABC. I’ve pretty much given up on this. I went to watch it online late last week and the episode wasn’t going to be available until Saturday, when I had no internet. I’m not really that broken up about it.

8:30 p.m.: “The Biggest Loser” on NBC.

9:00 p.m.: “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC.

“Dirty Jobs” on Discovery.

“Melrose Place” on The CW.

“NCIS: Los Angeles” on CBS.

“The Prisoner” on AMC.

“WWII in HD” on History. I’ve heard good things about this, but I’m not a big World War II buff. Also I don’t have an HD television, so I think I’d miss out on the point of this series.

10:00 p.m.: “The Forgotten” on ABC.

“The Good Wife” on CBS.

“The Hills” on MTV.

“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.

“Sons of Anarchy” on FX.

“WWII in HD” on History.

"V" is on the verge of being So Bad It's Good. I'm hangin' in.

I have a shit-ton of homework tonight, so boring yet oddly compelling Prisoner it is!

Posted by: Claire at November 17, 2009 7:08 PM

I feared this when The Prisoner was nailed for a remake - the older version is pretty boring. The new version attempted to keep up. I didn't get past the nightclub featured 7 minutes in. And Jim Caviezel makes my stomach turn.

V is so ridikoulous it's not worth correctly spelling.

So i guess it's another night of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Yay!

Oh I'd totally watch that WW2 thing. I love World War II docs. But I don't think my History Channel (latin american version) has it yet. I think I'll watch Project Runway re-runs.

Last week's SoA had me weeping like a wee babe. I don't expect this week's to be as good, but an average Sons of Anarchy episode is superior to 99% of anything else that will be on any channel, any day of the week.

Posted by: jiggity at November 17, 2009 8:15 PM

I second the question of The Prisoner online. I have heard only bad things about it, but I still wouldn't mind checking it out. Anybody know where to find it or should I just try surfthechannel?

Posted by: The_wakeful at November 17, 2009 8:17 PM

Jiggity, I'm right there with you, though it doesn't say much since I cry at the drop of a hat these days. However, as a testament to the awesomeness of last week's episode, my not so touchy-feeling husband turned to me after the credits rolled and said, "That gave me chills."

Okay, for the SYTYCD fans, Legacy's abs...did anyone see those things coming?

Posted by: bonnie at November 17, 2009 9:16 PM

Hee hee, no, bonnie. He's giving Ryan a run for his money.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at November 17, 2009 9:42 PM

That show always makes me feel so horribly out of shape. I should be a dancer.

Posted by: figgy at November 17, 2009 10:36 PM

And oh but Russell is HOT. Mmm.

Posted by: figgy at November 17, 2009 10:57 PM

Oh Bonnie I saw that coming from Canada, what I didn't see was him being so modest...maybe modest isn't the right word...humble...I love the show anyways although it irks me when all the little bitches vote for the cutie even though his dancing has fallen behind.

Posted by: Mrs.Admin at November 17, 2009 11:14 PM

Joe Biden just used the word "hell" on The Daily Show tonight. Can't wait for the moral outrage tomorrow.

Posted by: Three-nineteen at November 17, 2009 11:28 PM

Mrs. Admin, I too was pleasantly surprised by Legacy's demeanor tonight. I'm growing a bit fond of him. And I'm not fond of little Nathan. He's getting kind of irksome.

And figgy, I'm SO with you on the Russell love. He's adorable and such a great dancer!

Posted by: bonnie at November 17, 2009 11:45 PM

I've been watching the 60's The Prisoner and actually digging it. It's very trippy, subversive and oddly attracting -- a child of its time. Tons of tonal shifts though.

Posted by: Fredo at November 18, 2009 12:13 AM

Legacy was sooo abtasticular tonight it wasn't even funny! And does the one dude who's married to the other dancer remind anyone else of Hugh Jackman? He's a spectacular hunk off beef too!

SOA is the most awesome show! I was literally cowering in my chair a time or two tonight. That shit is going to get real next week!
I love me some Henry Rollins and I can't wait for him and Jax to duke it out.

Tuesdays make me weep. Especially when I have things to write and study and nothing to procrastinate with. Well, not nothing. There's always YouTube!

(It's my friend's. And it's hilarious. But don't hate me for shilling! It's all I have left to do to keep me from the paper that's supposed to get done. I've gotten just that desperate. Goddamn you Tuesday. You're ruining my day, my routine, my productive and my reputation. Well, fuck it, I'm just gonna go to bed at 10. That's the law school spirit.)

Posted by: Lisl minus Rolf at November 18, 2009 1:24 AM

Apparently Tuesday's also ruining my grammar.

"...my routine, my productivity and my reputation."

Posted by: Lisl minus Rolf at November 18, 2009 1:26 AM

I did French homework and watched The Forgotten...shoot me.

Legacy was Ah-Mazing tonight. He was TOTALLY immersed in the character from the first time the camera was on him (before the commercial break) until 1/2 way through the judging. That boy has focus. I think he could win this thing. Ryan is smoking hot too though. Yes to the Hugh Jackman reference, I realize now that is who he has been reminding me of.
{sigh} I love SYTYCD. They are just so pretty.

V was good this week, it really doesn't deserve the derision. People bitched about the forgotten crashed fighter in the pilot episode, well, that was a plot point this week. As was all the damage and death caused when the Visitors first arrived.

It's not brilliant, but it is entertaining and there is far worse stuff on TV. The twists have been good and the deeper story is really getting interesting. I wish the writers/director would smarten things up a bit but that is likely not going to happen. I really didn't need to have Erica see the Secret Control Room when someone opened the door she just happened to be staring at. That was pretty dumb. But the introduction of the 5th Column, the very vague hints of what the Visitors really want, and the beginning of the Resistance has kept things interesting. Still hoping Alan Tudyk comes back but that is looking doubtful. Pity he and Morena didn't even get a scene together.

Sons of Anarchy is the best drama currently on television. Period. The scene last week after Gemma's story when Jax put his hand on Clay's shoulder and Clay grabbed his hand I literally had tears in my eyes. The payback on Zoebel is going to be extraordinary. There better be a pile of Emmys for that show next fall.

Wow, look at all the SYTYCD people on this thread! Where were all of you before? Kballs, myssharona and I were so lonesome.

I'm really disappointed in this season so far; last week's show was dreadful. I was BORED. Virtually no one moved me or made me feel anything with their performance. And it's utter bullshit that Nathan is still there. That immature talentless douche needs to go. I wish people would stop voting for people based on their hotness and more on their dancing skills.

Ryan totally looks like Hugh Jackman. Didn't see it before now. I still think he's a little in love with himself which makes it hard to me to like him. Why is there always a guy every season who thinks he's so hot that he never has to wear a shirt? At this point it's a little silly and embarrassing.

I'm really loving Legacy. He puts everything he's got into his performances, and he seems genuinely grateful and humble for this experience. I was worried when they got that bull-fighting style dance (sorry, not up on the dancing terms) since no one (except Brandon and Jeanine last year) seems to get that right, but they nailed it.

I liked that blackbird number and agree with the judges that it was nice to see Channing enjoy herself for once.

Kevin and Karen, though--ugh. I think the choreography totally stunk to begin with, but they were stiff as hell performing it, especially Karen. I honestly thought she had injured herself and that's why she was so clunky. I just wish the judges would occasionally call out the choreographers for doing a crappy job.

Like that humorless bitch who did Nathan and Mollee's routine. First of all, woman, get rid of those stupid pink headphones. Since when are huge plastic headphones an accessory? If you're trying to start a trend, maybe you could go with something less retarded. Second, stop acting like this is life or death and screaming at your dancers. Yes, you want them to do well, yes, they should take it seriously, but people who have zero sense of humor about their work are utter bores.

Also really liked seeing everyone's photos and videos of them as kids--it's fun when they do that stuff.

The Pris6ner: I WANT MY 6 HOURS BACK.

I guessed early on what the Village actually was, who created it, and where the holes were coming from.

As to the purpose of the Village, I was VERY disappointed. They could have just TOLD him, instead of going through all this breaking him stuff. The whole theme behind the original Village was that it was where they took spies who quit during the Cold War, and you didn't know which side was running the Village, so you didn't know who to trust. I don't want to give a spoiler to anyone who hasn't seen the new one, but I just didn't care about the new reason for the new Village. I got to the end and said, "That was it? I wasted 6 hours for that?"

Also, don't watch it in 3 two hour chunks like AMC showed it. It's definitely 6 one hour chunks. The two hour chunks were boring.

SoA has become my favorite show on TV. Why it gets no nods is beyond me.
Katy Segal is unreal-I knew she was good, but after seeing her in this show, I have a whole new respect.
The storylines and characters alike are multi-dimensional and compelling. Some of the best writing I've seen in awhile.

Like that humorless bitch who did Nathan and Mollee's routine.

Ah, yes. Choreographer to PDiddy's bands, self proclaimed "Not a dream killer," the magical and mythical Boom KACK! herself, Laurie Anne Gibson. She's the good type of reality TV bitch. Its like Jillian Michaels without the cursing and scary forearm veins. The routine was awful but I don't blame her. Nigel saddled her with a Disney Princess and a Teenage Douche. What could she be expected to do with dancers that didn't have the maturity for a Bollywood number? Nothing, that's what.

Awesomebutt, you speak French, too? Oh my.

The Prisoner is OnDemand but don't waste your time. I would like to see an episode by episode review though, just to compare my thoughts. I thought it was crap but Im not a deep thinker either.
