In Which I Threaten Adult Swim

My internet is allegedly being repaired right now, but I’m writing this article from campus anyway just to make sure it gets published. And that I don’t bike home only to end up having to bike back here to use the internet. I’m smart like that. Also, I would like to tell Adult Swim that they can go screw themselves since last night’s “Venture Brothers” episode is not yet posted on their website. I have very few television addictions proper, but that’s one of them and I get really tetchy when people screw around with it. I will be in the New York/New Jersey area next week, do not think it’s outside the realm of possibility for me to come by Williams Street Studios and bitch slap the lot of you.

8:00 p.m.: “Dancing With The Stars” on ABC.

“Heroes” on NBC.

“House” on FOX.

“How I Met Your Mother” on CBS.

“Inside the Actors Studio: Bon Jovi” on Bravo. (Really? I mean, OK, but … really?)

“One Tree HIll” on The CW.

“The Prisoner” on AMC.

8:30 p.m.: “Accidentally on Purpose” on CBS.

“Monday Night Football: Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns” on ESPN. This is the biggest reason I’ve got my fingers crossed that my cable comes back tonight too. I really want to see this game. Go, Ravens!

9:00 p.m.: “Gossip Girl” on The CW.

“The Prisoner” on AMC.

“Trauma” on NBC.

“Two and a Half Men” on CBS. How is it that Charlie Sheen can’t stay faithfully married for more than two minutes but this show has been on the air SIX YEARS?!? The mind, she boggles.

“WWII in HD” on History.

“Lie to Me” on FOX, starting exactly one minute late.

10:00 p.m.: “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS.

“CSI: Miami” on CBS.

“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.

“WWII in HD” on History.

“Castle” on ABC, starting a full two minutes late. Adjust DVRs accordingly.

Actually Williams Street is in Atlanta.

INTERVENTION AND HOARDERS, Y'ALL.

I know they're repeats, but come on. It's awesome.

And I LOVE Adult Swim. I cannot fall asleep at night without it.

My favorites are Squidbillies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force (took me forever to check that one out--it looked so gotdamned weird), Superjail (but I think it's gone now), Moral Oral. The robot chicken thing is ok. Venture Bros is ok. I can't think of others.

I don't enjoy Family Guy. Why do they have to show SO many episodes of that?

Posted by: Snuggiepants the Deathbringer at November 16, 2009 7:13 PM

Woooo Ravens!
Woooo Gossip Girl! (suck it all of you. it's endlessly entertaining)
Woooo 250 pages of Anna Karenina to read!

Posted by: esme at November 16, 2009 7:16 PM

Venture Bros and Metalocalypse are great. Tonight, however, I'm eschewing TV for my weekly dungeon delve.

Posted by: LowSlash at November 16, 2009 7:21 PM

Anyone still watching How I Met Your Mother? The first two or three episodes this season were so godawful bad that I haven't watched since. I'm afraid of further disappointment.

Posted by: katy at November 16, 2009 7:23 PM

Jay, I heard from someone at some point that Williams Street Studios were located in New Jersey. I'm not sure why, since it does look like they're still in Atlanta. Weird.

Posted by: Intern Rusty at November 16, 2009 7:25 PM

I'm TiVo-ing WWII in HD. It's been ages since History Channel had something that wasn't some lame quasi-reality show or exploitive "Sex in the Stone Ages" or somesuch.

The Venture Brothers is pretty much the only can't miss show for me anymore. Go Team Venture!

Posted by: Leftylad at November 16, 2009 7:40 PM

katy we're still watching HIMYM and last week's episode was really back to the way the show used to be. Granted it involved a fat suit, but still, it's worth checking it out if it's on Hulu.

Posted by: mswas at November 16, 2009 7:50 PM

For the NFL's sake, I hope you get your cable back too. If they're looking for ratings, that's a real humdinger of a matchup they chose for Monday Night Football. After Ray Rice gets 40 yards, I'm checking out.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at November 16, 2009 8:20 PM

They are called the Browns for a reason. This would be a great preseason match up but this is unacceptable for a mid-season MNF game.

Posted by: schrome at November 16, 2009 8:24 PM

I don't usually watch HIMYM because it's opposite MNF, but that wasn't too bad.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at November 16, 2009 8:28 PM

I'm wondering just how different WWII in HD would be to NAtional Geographic's Apocalypse: The Second World War

Posted by: arrrghzi at November 16, 2009 8:29 PM

Darth, thanks to an extremely talented and appreciated neighbor, I do have my cable back. Go Ravens! Justify my long standing and occasionally baffling crush on Joe Flacco!

Posted by: Intern Rusty at November 16, 2009 8:33 PM

Metalocalypse, I forgot that one! Love it!

Posted by: Snuggiepants the Deathbringer at November 16, 2009 8:36 PM

Hey I'm from the CLE, and we're going to....oh wait...no we're not. Our only winners are our defunct indoor soccer team and.... yeah nothing else. And the 1st three HIMYM were pretty strong (ok Cat Funeral made me throw up I was laughing so freaking hard). Also is it me or has Venture and Metalocalypse really upped the ante in terms of quality this year? Venture is starting to put everyone else in TV land on notice for how to build a story and mythos from the ground up?

Posted by: sammonland at November 16, 2009 8:41 PM

Intern Rusty, no need to justify your crush on Joe Flacco. He's a hottie, whether the Ravens win or lose.

Posted by: bonnie at November 16, 2009 8:44 PM

Umm, sexy monobrow.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at November 16, 2009 9:02 PM

Tracer, it would take me about a minute with a wax strip to fix a unibrow. The man's tall, fit, young, and rich. You want to quibble about a tiny amount of marginally unattractive eyebrow hair, be my guest. I know it's just because you're jealous.

And bonnie, he is. I worked at the Ravens' training camp in 2008 and got to follow him around while he signed autographs after practice. It was only professional integrity (and the fact that I looked incredibly dumpy in my work clothes) that stopped me from grabbing that sharpie and writing my number on his hand.

Posted by: Intern Rusty at November 16, 2009 9:09 PM

He looks like a knuckle-dragging Cro Magnon who chews with his mouth open and thinks Dutch Ovens are the funniest thing in the world, but, sure. Go with "jealous" if that floats your boat.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at November 16, 2009 9:37 PM

Please, Rusty, the last thing NJ needs is more bad publicity right now. Unless you plan to show up with dark brown lip liner surrounding natural gloss, door-knocker earrings, and a killer crimped wig hairsprayed within an inch of its synthetic life, I cannot condone this behavior. If you're going to act on the stereotypes, at least play the part right. Those press-on nails don't remove themselves before you get into a brawl with the special needs monkeys running the Adult Swim website.

Give them a swift kick in the nuts for refusing to put more than one episode of The Boondocks online at the same time. And another for automatically turning off "Single Play" mode during every commercial.

Posted by: Robert at November 16, 2009 9:59 PM

Whoa whoa whoa! What's this now?! NY/New Jersey area!? And whereabouts might you be ...abouts?

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at November 16, 2009 10:06 PM

"Metalocalypse" has been awesome so far. They're running full half hour episodes now and the first two were excellent. If you don't know about this show, get seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and watch them, right now! It will grow on you like some sort of happy fungus, I swear.

Posted by: Dude Manbro at November 16, 2009 10:14 PM

1st 2 were good this season has just ramped it up. Maybe Small's time on Venture Bros has really fired him up to put out a great story vs the 15 minute shorts.

Posted by: sammonland at November 16, 2009 10:34 PM

I just finished watching "The Prisoner" and I feel....well, it's the same feeling I got from season one of Heroes and from X-files mytharc episodes circa seasons 3-5. I don't know exactly what the hell is going on, but I'm hooked now.

Posted by: alphawhiskey at November 16, 2009 10:36 PM

"So when do the meteors get here?"
"The meteors don't GET here. The Earth is moving into their path!"
"I can feel it mooooving! Oh...make it stop, Raj."

Hee. I love Big Bang Theory.

Posted by: figgy at November 16, 2009 10:41 PM

And oh, I love whenever Penny and Sheldon are left alone. They're so fantastic together.

Posted by: figgy at November 16, 2009 10:41 PM

Heee! "Let's sing it in a round... I'll start! Soft kitty, warm kitty...."

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at November 16, 2009 10:45 PM

If I could speak the language of the rabbits...they would be amazed and I would be their king.

I would be kind to my loyal rabbit subjects. At first.

House spoiler -

Thank the Great Satan that Cameron is gone! All those goat sacrifices finally worked.

Oh, and good news for HIMYM. Robin and Barney broke up, so everything is back to awesome. As Barney said at the end of last week's episode, "Daddy's home".

Posted by: Three-nineteen at November 16, 2009 10:51 PM

AvB, I almost DIED from joy!

Until sweeps and she's back. No one freakin' leaves that show.

On the great Adult Swim topic, I'll say that right now I'm all about two shows, Metalocalypse and Titan Maximum. Both funny. Both good.

Posted by: Fredo at November 16, 2009 11:17 PM

titan maximums good, but i keep waiting for the homerun. i get some laughs but not piss my pants laughing yet

Posted by: sammonland at November 16, 2009 11:21 PM

I'm warming up a bit to Titan Maximum, not there yet.

But then it took me a couple of years with Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Squidbillies love was immediate and FIERCE. I can quote it now, which is great because no one I know in person has ever seen it. "YES, YOU WON THE LOTTERY ALRIGHT. SHIRLEY JACKSON'S THE LOTTERY! MUWAHAHAHAHA!"

Hee.

Posted by: Snuggiepants the Deathbringer at November 17, 2009 12:12 AM

Holy crap, I don't know if you have seen the new Venture Bros. online yet, but they finally revealed the twisted secret of Dr. Girlfriend:

SHE WAS DEAD THE WHOLE TIME

Also, trees kill people

Posted by: Farthammer at November 17, 2009 12:16 AM

Squidbillies is brilliant, not as layered as Ventures, but its on equal footing with one liners.

Posted by: sammonland at November 17, 2009 12:36 AM

Allow me to explain the contamination process. Pine cones go in here, party liquors comes out here and proceed to here.
Fights begin, finger prints are took, days is lost, bail is made, court dates are ignored, cycle is repeated.

Squidbillies is brilliant.

Posted by: Brian at November 17, 2009 10:48 AM

Well, Williams Street and the Adult Swim offices are in Atlanta, but there is an AS presence in NYC.

The Venture Brothers is done, at least in part, in Brooklyn. Yep, Doc Hammer and Jackson Public work in Brooklyn.

Metalocalypse is done in LA as Brendon Small and Titmouse Studios are based there.

Posted by: Holkie at November 17, 2009 3:48 PM

The latest Venture Bros was great, you should just torrent it.
