Most Aptly Named Show Ever

I feel sorry for Tuesdays sometimes. Monday earns a lot of scorn, it being the first day of the week, but at least people pay attention to it. Wednesday gets credit for marking the exact midpoint of the week, when you’re in college weekends generally start on Thursdays, and Friday is the obvious popularity winner out of all the weekdays. Hell, I could barely remember today was supposed to be Tuesday yesterday, I kept thinking it would be Wednesday. Wishful thinking, I guess. So yeah, I occasionally feel sorry for Tuesdays but then I remember that Tuesday is like that friend who, at first, seems to just have a lot of shit going on and you’re like “man, sucks for that guy” and offer sympathy. But then you realize that it actually doesn’t matter what happens to that person or whether or not their shit gets resolved, they’re always miserable. And then you stop feeling sorry for them. Here’s tonight’s television with my own plea to Tuesday to stop being such a miserable whiner.

8:00 p.m.: “The Biggest Loser” on NBC.

“So You Think You Can Dance” on FOX (new time slot for this).

9:00 p.m.: “Dancing With The Stars” on ABC.

“Dirty Jobs” on Discovery. It says “Camel Rancher”. I’m not sure what to make of that.

“18 Kids And Counting” on TLC (it’s Duggar night over on TLC for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing).

9:30 p.m.: “18 Kids and Counting” on TLC (See?).

10:00 p.m.: “Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre World” on Travel, and they’re going to be in Wisconsin tonight. What scary things can you eat in Wisconsin? Rancid cheese? Actually, don’t tell me. I probably don’t want to know.

“The Forgotten” on ABC, which is a great title as I can’t actually remember ever hearing anything about this show. At all. I haven’t the foggiest clue what it’s about.

“The Hills” on MTV.

“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.

“Parking Wars” on A&E.

“Sons of Anarchy” on FX.

“The Naughty Kitchen with Chef Blythe Beck” on Oxygen.

And Counting?? SERIOUSLY? Are they still tallying them up? Are they popping out at such a speed that they can't count fast enough? This whole idea makes me ill. Birth control, people. Or, in some cases, sterilization.

I honestly can imagine few fates worse than growing up as the 9th or 10th Duggar sibling. They've got nothing going for them. There's sure no way they're going to college. Their own parents probably forget their names. And honestly, the number of diapers they must be changing should probably count as child labor.

Parking Wars....the ULTIMATE showdown between those who WILL NEVER amount to anything and we who rule the world. I HATE folks who work at these service "government" positions....WHY!?!?!?!, 'cause they hate us. These are the losers, THE REAL LOSERS, those who weren't noticeable enuff to get ragged on as nerds OR popular enuff to be recognized. In other words...NOBODIES.

Look around you...these are the people who surround you.

I know I'm part of the problem, and I apologize, but I f'ing love the Duggars. I mean, they're crazy right-wingers with a seriously terrifying Christian agenda; but look at them! They're so friendly and denim skirt-clad, how can they be everything that's wrong with America?

I think I might be one of the three people watching The Forgotten, but damn if I don't like this show. People have really given it flack for not being flashy, but it's the kind of show that really doesn't have to be. The stories are well written and just a little bit smarter than some of the "this is point A, now move to point B" writing formulas being used on TV today, which was what drew me in to begin with. Each episode is written as a perfectly contained hour-long movie, starring Christian Slater as Christian Slater, but it works.

“Dirty Jobs” on Discovery. It says “Camel Rancher”. I’m not sure what to make of that.

That usually means Mike Rowe ends up covered in crap. Hilarity ensues!

Wait....what....Parking Wars?! The hell?

Well fuck me, that is a pretty shitty lineup. But I must counter your hatred of Tuesdays. I personally love Tuesdays, for the simple reason that they aren't Mondays. I hate Mondays so much that I rejoice at the very first day that presents itself as a non-Monday. As that happens to be Tuesday, I love Tuesday. Other then Friday (cause honestly, how do you top Friday) Tuesday is my favorite work day. Hands down, no need for a photo finish, Tuesdays are awesome. Yes the tv line up is asstastic, but it gives me a chance to catch up on my movies anyway.

Oh yes, Figgy. Parking Wars. Bslim's hideous 'enuffs' aside, it really is a show of losers, for losers, by losers. It features parking attendants, who are losers by nature, and people who fight about parking tickets, who are also losers - seriously, you got a ticket? Let it go. Maybe next time don't park illegally. It's not even fun, like Cops, where you can just laugh at white trash. It's just sad.

This is why CBS wins. If you don't have cable or don't care to sift through it (i.e. lots of America), you get one choice for a scripted show for 2 of the three hours of prime time. The well shot, and bland but inoffensive actors combine to make NCIS LA as a top series.

Oh come on. That's ridiculous. I don't believe you. A show that dumb can't exist in my world. Nope.

Posted by: figgy at October 27, 2009 10:48 PM

Welcome to the US, figs. You'd best learn to start apologizing for ridiculous shit now.

It's the American Way!

Point of interest (possibly?): They're filming that Facebook movie here right now, so Jesse Eisenberg (most recently of Zombieland) is all over the place investigating the party scene. Apparently, so is Ben Affleck (for some other movie), but I haven't actually seen him.

Actually, all the Duggars probably qualify for huge grants, if not scholarships, to just about any college, based on Ma and Pa Duggar's income/number of dependents.

So, you've met my Ex-Husband then?

Whats with the tuesday hate. SoA is becoming one of my TV highlights

Posted by: silchas ruin at October 28, 2009 4:51 AM

Glad that you've finally added SoA to the list. A show that started mediocre at best, but since has become one of the best drama series on TV. SoA saves Tuesdays!

If you're not watching Biggest Loser this season, you're missing one of the all time great whack job characters...Tracey...aka Trazey.

On most Tuesday nights, we have Family Reading Night. No TV, no movies, no computers, no texting, etc. Just reading.

I love Tuesday nights.

The lineup you listed just verifies we're doing the right thing on the right night.

... few fates worse than growing up as the 9th or 10th Duggar sibling. They've got nothing going for them. There's sure no way they're going to college.

Not that I'm exactly in favor popping out a zillion kids in a row (ow! my uterus is twitching...), but this particular family seems to have a decent grasp on money management, even before the TV/book deals.

Last night was a festival of suck on TV. Nothing good on any channel, so I read the newspaper. You hear me? I READ THE NEWSPAPER. That's how desperate I was for some kind of mental stimulation. And I kinda half-heartedly watched Sons of Anarchy and then some shit about the economy on PBS (at 9 PM CST).

I've given Sons of Anarchy a few times to woo me, and... meh. It's kind of like watching my family, only with more leather and gunfire.
