We Gotta Leave It There

Pajiba After Dark / Dustin Rowles

Glorious, glorious television Wednesdays — the primetime schedule is really the best reason not to whine on Thursdays. Let’s get to it:

7:00

— “Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak” on HBO. Filmmakers Lance Bangs and Spike Jonze offer an intimate look at the life and work of Maurice Sendak, with a peek at Where the Wild Things Are afterward (H/T Cindy).

8:00

— “America’s Next Top Model ” on The CW.

— “Mercy” on NBC is atrocious (and likely heading toward cancellation, but I do like the title of tonight’s ep: “Pulling the goalie.” A veiled sexual reference in a show title? I can dig it).

— “So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox.

8:30

— “The Middle” on ABC. The second ep lived up to the first, so “The Middle” has achieved permanent status on the ole DVR.

9:00

— “Glee” on Fox. The title: “Takedown.” I think they’ll finally be competing this week. Granted, against the school of the deaf, but I bet they turn out to be a lot better than expected.

— “Law and Order: SVU” on NBC. I think this is the one with Scott Foley. I fucking love Scott Foley — dude needs another show, like, yesterday.

— “Modern Family” on ABC. Each episode so far has been as good as the last.

— “Mythbusters” on Discovery. For those people. You know who I’m talking about.

9:30

— “Cougar Town” on ABC. It’s getting its legs underneath it. It’s a better show than the pilot suggested.

10:00

— “Nip/Tuck” has its sixth season premiere on F/X. I quit this show midway through the 4th season. Outstanding first couple of seasons, but then it went off the deep end.

— “Top Chef” on Bravo! There’s always one chef who hangs on way longer than she should. This season it’s Robin. Look for her to get the boot tonight.

— “South Park” on Comedy Central.

— “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” on MTV. Is Coral still showing up on these? And The Fez?

Finally, and just cause, here is the best 11 minutes of television so far this week. From Monday’s “The Daily Show.” If you haven’t seen it, it’s damn nice to see ragey Jon Stewart again:

Jon stewart is my hero. I would take a bullet for him.

i wish jon stewart lived in my pantaloons.

I fucking love Scott Foley — dude needs another show, like, yesterday.

Word. And having downloaded it from a very generous Canadian friend of mine, I can attest that he was FANTASTIC.

Aaaaand he's naked for part of the first half. Bonus!

A little off topic from the video, but is anyone else a little freaked out by the facial profiler website that coke zero is advertising at the end? Not sure that I want my face uploaded into a huge databank with the express purpose of finding my doppelganger. I mean, it sounds a little cool, but a little scary.

Posted by: Alexandra at October 14, 2009 7:18 PM

That segment was one of the best I've ever seen. Stewart and his writers are Gods. They are at their best when they are exposing the "news" channels for not doing their jobs.
In related news, I'm in Bogota for a work assignment and CNN here doesn't show Lou Dobbs, so I can actually watch them without bile rising in my throat.

Posted by: PaddyDog at October 14, 2009 7:26 PM

I just counted seven shows that I watch on Wednesdays. SEVEN.

Question: Which do you guys watch and which do you DVR -- "Glee" or "Modern Family?"

I have to say that I watch "Modern Family" and DVR "Glee." I like the musical numbers WAY more than I like the shades-of-soap-opera story and the bordering-on-pretentious dialogue (except anytime Jane Lynch is onscreen).

"Modern Family," on the other hand, is an unmitigated delight.

Posted by: Jelinas at October 14, 2009 7:26 PM

I love Jon Stewart so much. And that was awesome.

Posted by: myysharona (formerly Sharon) at October 14, 2009 7:27 PM

Gleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

And not that anyone cares, and we'll probably lose, but this is Honduras' last chance to make it to the World Cup next year. I mean, we'll probably win, but our chances hinge on Costa Rica losing to the US (fuckers who already qualified even if their own country doesn't know they exist!) who will probably let them win because they've nothing to lose.

Anyway. I'll be switching between the stupid games and Glee, and I'm guessing only one of those options will make me totally happy. Bring it, musical.

Posted by: figgy at October 14, 2009 7:29 PM

We won't let them win, figgy, we'll just put in our third string bench and beat them anyways. The US is going all the way this year. I can feel it in my bones. MAH BOOOOOONES

Posted by: the_wakeful at October 14, 2009 7:43 PM

I don't like you.

Posted by: figgy at October 14, 2009 7:46 PM

Wait, no. If the US beats CR into a pulp I'll love everybody.

Posted by: figgy at October 14, 2009 7:48 PM

Add me to the Jon Stewart love pile.

And Felicity always belonged with Noel.

Posted by: Cindy at October 14, 2009 8:28 PM

I rarely watch anything live anymore. I'd rather record a show, wait until it's about 10-15 minutes in, then starting watching it so I can fast forward the commercials. So I'll watch SYTYCD while Glee & Modern Family are both recording, then I'll watch them afterward.

I think the last thing I watched live was the Office wedding, and other than college football on Saturdays, I can't recall anything beyond that.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at October 14, 2009 8:30 PM

Nobody around here likes Mythbusters? They blow shit up every week! I bet even tonight's episode, which is all about duct tape, will feature at least one massive explosion.

Posted by: Three-nineteen at October 14, 2009 8:35 PM

What do you mean, those kinds of people? What kinds of people like Mythbusters? AWESOME people?

Posted by: SaBrina at October 14, 2009 9:19 PM

Yeah, MythBusters is pretty much every little pyromaniac's dream come true. It is awesome, and educational! Because you never know when you might need to blow up a car with its own sound system!

Posted by: Tammy at October 14, 2009 9:22 PM

Nip/Tuck did indeed start to push the ridic meter off the freaking charts some time ago, but fuck it: I'm in for the long haul. Shit's almost over for good and I'm going to hang in 'til the bitter end. I am a true television sadist... without us, who would watch Lost?

Posted by: Cruise at October 14, 2009 9:35 PM

butters becomes a man, must see T.V.!

Posted by: pasadenamike at October 14, 2009 9:43 PM

I mean, I love 'Glee'...or at least I'm willing to give it a pass when it sucks.

But the teacher dude looks like Woody from Toy Story, and it's disconcerting.

Posted by: kalafraja at October 14, 2009 9:48 PM

i wish jon stewart lived in my pantaloons.
Posted by: stopthemadness at October 14, 2009 7:16 PM

I wish I had pantaloons....

Posted by: Anna von Beaverpuppet at October 14, 2009 9:48 PM

And I just flipped over to 'Cougar Town', and that thing is like a frickin' Botox factory exploded. Holy crap, do people actually think that's attractive?

Posted by: kalafraja at October 14, 2009 9:50 PM

WE'RE IN THE WORLD CUP MOTHERFUCKERS!

SUCK IT COSTA RICA! SUCK IT! SUCK IIIIIIIIIT!

WOOOOOOOO!

WOOOOOOOOOO!

*RUNS AROUND YELLING LIKE A DERANGED MONKEY COLLAPSES FROM JOY*

Posted by: figgy at October 14, 2009 10:10 PM

Congratulations figgy!

Posted by: Cindy at October 14, 2009 10:12 PM

I love Mythbusters, but I never stress about watching it live because they re-run every episode into oblivion. Also it's gotten a little harder for me to watch since Kari became pregnant because I wince in sympathy for how uncomfortable she must be way more than I did when she wasn't pregnant.

Posted by: Rusty (formerly Genny) at October 14, 2009 10:14 PM

OH! Yay for figgy and her countrypeople!

Posted by: Rusty (formerly Genny) at October 14, 2009 10:15 PM

"SUCK IT COSTA RICA! SUCK IT! SUCK IIIIIIIIIT!"

This may be my new slogan, just because it's fun to say.

Posted by: Mrcreosote at October 14, 2009 10:24 PM

Hoop-de-do, figgy. Are those gunshots in the street a celebration or another coup?

Posted by: , (the commenter formerly known as bucdaddy) at October 14, 2009 11:09 PM

Fuck.
An absolutely horrible day careens on toward midnight and suddenly, life blows up and gives me a few reasons to rejoice... reasons that I truly needed.
Honduras makes the Cup and I could not be happier for Figgy. Fucking awesome!
Jon Stewart showed his fangs again (at last) and ripped into CNN, complete with John Oliver Dressing.
"Glee" was just as good as I had hoped it would be and "Modern Family" is living up to it's early promise.
Add to this tall stack of goodness the fact that Pajibans continually prove themselves to be the most loyal, loving buncha dorksnorklers that ever defiled a movie website with their lovably insane, profane and angry ravings and, well, it's been a nice denouement to the day.

Posted by: Spender at October 14, 2009 11:50 PM

Dorksnorklers.

There once was a great man called Jon
He ranted and laughed for eons
Sitting in his news chair
With his gelled silver hair
He always turned me so far on

My threshold for whether or not a Daily Show episode is good is the point where I fall off my bed from laughing. And I'm not an extravagant laughter, usually. I'm quite conservative in my chuckles. But he just...is the love of my life.

Posted by: esme at October 15, 2009 3:04 AM

I'd hit Jon and every single correspondent. Including Sam Bee. Shit, including Larry Wilmore.

(You know you love the Daily Show when you're ok with the 1% risk of birthing little high-talking tubs of lard, amiright?)

Posted by: Ling at October 15, 2009 8:20 AM

See you in South Africa Figgy... The Countdown starts here.

Now to start building up my hopes for England over the next 9 months till we mess up in the quarters or second round (i hope we get that far).

Posted by: jim of the lower case at October 15, 2009 8:49 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHA figgy

Honduras: SUCK IT COSTA RICA!

=

West Virginia: SUCK IT RHODE ISLAND!

What day is the clip from the Daily Show? It's blocked for us users in Canada.
