Pajiba 10 For Your Consideration: Tim Howard

I realize we’re not an especially sporty bunch around here. Every time I mention a sporting event in “5 Shows” it’s like a race to see who will denigrate it first. And that’s fine, I get it, most pop-culture nerds have suffered for their disdain of the athletic arts and a few shots across the bow are just to be expected. But, ladies and gentleman of Pajiba, I would submit for your consideration for the Pajiba 10, Mr.Timothy Howard.

I’m sure you’ve all heard his name by now. He is the man that tried to get us through to the next round of the World Cup almost on his own. Tim Howard, at 35, put a young US Men’s National Team on his back and carried them for 120 very long, agonizing minutes. He made more saves than any other goalie in the World Cup since they started keeping track of these things. He was our rock. He was our hero. In the end, he wasn’t enough, but I doubt anyone who watched even a minute of that game could blame him. He was obviously an athlete at the top of his game, and I am so sorry for him that his absolute triumph in the face of overwhelming odds did not also come with a victory. He deserved better than the USMNT could deliver this World Cup. Maybe we can console him with a spot on the Pajiba 10.

Oh, and he’s super handsome. Check it out:

He can grow a beard like no one’s business:

And it looks like saving goals does a body very very good:

Howard has also signed a contract with his club team, Everton, for the next five years which would take us through 2018 and the next World Cup. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this isn’t the last time this lovely man makes it to the biggest stage in football (soccer).
