Pajiba 10 For Your Consideration: Chris Evans

By Cindy Davis | Miscellaneous | June 30, 2014 | Comments ()

For the man who would play Captain America, we needed someone who could give us that wholesome, apple-pie thing we’re so fond of — but who we could also accept as a serious(ly sexy) hero. Not many people could wear that mask. Even fewer people could start out so scrawny (effects or not) and later emerge as the hero we were looking for; for this we needed a very particular man. Chris Evans has the gift of being handsome with humility; he doesn’t take himself too seriously. There’s a twinkle in his eye, an underlying smirk, and a playful goofiness that makes him feel approachable. And yet clearly, there’s nothing ordinary about him. Have a look…and do try not to drool over your keyboard.

Those eyes…

He’s equally adept at portraying happy,

or sad:

Looks great with long-ish hair and a little smirk…

or short hair and a bright smile (and hey, those glasses ain’t bad either):

He can pull off steely intensity,

and goofy, half-naked apple-eating — if that’s your thing. I think that’s my thing:

He has good babysitting skills…

And he doesn’t mind showing affection in public:

He looks good in uniform…

a suit…

or less — if that’s your thing. I think that’s my thing:

He seems to enjoy physical activity…

And he’s got an intellectual side — look, he reads the paper!

What else can I say to convince you?

Oh yeah, dat ass:

But just in case you need a leetle something to push you over the edge:

Shhh…you’ll be okay. Go have a rest in your bunk…

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is already there.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Sassy Pikachu

    .... Banana Split.

He is most definitely going to be on my list.

  • This is a case of a beard catapulting a man's sexiness from Ryan Reynolds cuteness to Han fuckin' Solo levels of swaggering hotness. Holy Godtopus.

  • While he doesn't do it for me (Jaimie Alexander OTOH...), I can objectively see what he does for others. I can also admire the work that goes into keeping in that kind of nick.

More than anything, though, I'm seeing Sam Rockwell's hunkier, buffer, younger brother.

  • How can you not like this?

  • BlackRabbit

The "steely intensity" one more looks like cold hands to me, honestly.

  • annie

He's also a prettier woman than I am, so.

  • e jerry powell

Cindy Davis, you know good and damn well that that's not enough ass...

  • He's #2 on my list. CATWS was a watershed moment for me, folks. We are just in synch this year, Pajiba!

  • aroorda

I think it's pretty hypocritical for a site that runs as many "stop objectifying women, #yesallwomen" articles as pajiba to be having a "who is sexiest" contest that not only objectifies both men and women, but ranks them in a top 10 type format. If some high school senior class ranked the top ten sexiest girls in their class and made a list you can bet both Courtney and the rest of the feminist writers would have an outraged article outlining the negatives of this type of crass classification of women. Not trolling, just genuinely curious as to where the disconnect lies.

  • Katylalala

Well, that really killed my ladyboner.

  • stardust

Chris Evans is super handsome and an talented actor but.....he just doesn't do it for me most of the time. Maybe he tends to be too clean-cut? Or too muscular? I like him better when he's just a bit scruffy with no beard. I will, however, watch whatever he is in. Like Ambrose said, he is way under-rated.

  • sherryb23

Never before have I actually wanted to be a Polaroid camera...

  • TK

Somewhere, Ryan Reynolds is watching Evans's career take off and kicking himself.

  • John W

I was thinking the same thing.

  • Repo

Seriously though. They both had similar comedic starts, but Reynolds just didn't make the right moves to transgress.
I should also say although I know spoof movies can be brutal, Evans lead in Not Another Teen Movie is hilarious. He kills it.

  • Samantha Klein

  • llp

He has a lovely mouth. I am weak, so weak.

  • I needed no convincing, but thanks for the photographic evidence all the same ;)

  • ZbornakSyndrome

I guess I'm going to be picky this year. He's handsome enough, and I liked both Sunshine and The Losers, but...I don't get excited about seeing him in projects.
But if he makes it to the 10, please use a picture of him with a beard, it makes all the difference!

  • Laura

Your things are my things also.

  • _Alexander_

Am i the only one who find's it tragic that there is no Jaimie Alexander/ Chris Evans picture so we can properly link the two hot nominees. Oh well let's just pretend that this Chris is the other Chris. Not not that Chris this Chris.

  • Kala

You make a compelling argument, Davis. Despite the fact that I have no desire to become a parent, that GIF with Evans making sweet faces at the baby made my ovaries tremble.

    Release the lions.

  • TK

Not only was he the best part of the underrated The Losers, but this scene has everything you need. Singing, dancing, undressing, humor, violence, you name it. Oh, and Journey.

  • asherlev1

I love that movie. SO MUCH. That is where my Chris Evans love first originated.

  • sherryb23

That was glorious. Thank you. Work productivity gone way down now.

  • TK

    [tips cap]

we do what we can, ma'am.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

The Losers was incredible. I never understood why it didn't get more love.

  • TK

Blame that star-studded piece of shit The Expendables.

  • Repo

I love The Losers, Jason Patric's creepy unexplained hand and propensity for shooting women who can't keep his sun umbrella properly situated included.

  • He also got drunk and called Leonard Maltin a bitch on an episode of Doug Loves Movies. Pretty fun:

  • His DLM appearances are hilarious. I hope he comes back soon!

  • He just when up a number on my list. ;)

  • Ryan Ambrose

Chris Evans is one of those severely underrated character actors trapped in the body of a leading man who will inevitably blow everyone's socks off with a career-defining performance in a few years.

People will ask "where did that come from?" but we here have always known he's a versatile and talented actor. The guy radiates nobility and earnestness in those delightful Captain America films and also starred in two of the best sci-fi films of the decade: Sunshine and Snowpiercer.

  • Kala

I'm chomping at the bit to see Snowpiercer (seriously, all the accolades are killing me and my endless curiosity), but I will preach all day long about Chris Evans and his bad ass in Sunshine. ALL DAY LONG.

  • Ryan Ambrose

The praise is well-justified, just try to not go into it with a literal frame of mind because otherwise the premise falls apart.

As for Sunshine he was truly great in it, I'm even one of those hypothetical people who enjoyed the third act twist.

  • Sean

Snowpiercer has been available online for the better part of a year. Not that I am saying that you should do that, but you know...

  • luthien26

Dayum! Ok, definitely on my list as well. He is just a handsome man. That, and he pulled off a great Captain America, a role that could have been cheesy and ridiculous in the wrong hands. Instead, he got it right in all aspects, and revealed himself to be more multi-dimensional than earlier roles might have indicated.

    Also dat CapAss.

  • emmalita

I wasn't that interested in Chris Evans, though the Cap Ass gif is very nice. But then I watched Snowpiercer yesterday. Apparently I have a dirty face fetish. As with Fellowship of the Ring era Viggo before him, slap some dirt on that face and I'm all about Chris Evans. Consider this my cry for help.

  • alannaofdoom

We should form a club. I'll make jackets!

  • emmalita

And pancakes! We need club pancakes.

  • Leelee

If having a dirty face fetish is wrong I don't want to be right.
Viggo covered in mud and blood was very much a turning point in my adolescence.

  • emmalita

I think I was 30 when LOTR came out and it was also a turning point in my adolescence.

  • ZbornakSyndrome

Interesting. I don't like Captain America (hail hydra), I usually call him Captain Killjoy because I feel like the character sucks the fun out of everything.
However, I will admit that Evans does indeed have a "dat ass" worthy posterior and looks good with a beard. Perhaps Snowpiercer will shove me over onto his side.

  • emmalita

In Snowpiercer he is often the quiet center, even when he's engaged in violence. The DP did a fantastic job of making sure his eyes were always well lit.

  • llp

I have an unhealthy obsession with him, actually. I think Snowpiercer, if I ever get to see it, will put me over the edge.

  • emmalita

At the very least, you will get to see Snowpiercer on VOD or disk. It might push you over the edge.

  • Mrs. Julien

Have I mentioned how happy I am that body hair and beards are back? I AM SO HAPPY THAT BODY HAIR AND BEARDS ARE BACK!

  • MGMcD

A billion times yes. Hooray for beardy hotness.

  • I've never been against them in principle and Chris Evans is proof beards + body hair can be done properly. It's the hipster santa beards and the circus moustaches that give me pause!

  • ZbornakSyndrome

I'm so with you on this, I get confused by hairless men.
I'm still not a big fan of his, but I must admit, the beard MAKES his face. He should chuck his razors.

  • Kala

GOD, YES!!! Body hair for the win!

  • sherryb23

Oh, my. Considering that he's already No. 1 on my list, my lions are, well, you know. I am bookmarking this and plan to spend an unhealthy amount of time staring at those gifs.
