Oh My Stars And Garters! It's The First Official Photo Of The 12th Doctor In Costume!

Matt Smith made bow ties and fezzes cool, David Tennant did the same for dusters, pin stripes and and Chuck Taylors. What’s Peter Capaldi got in store for us?

Rather demure, no? I mean, the scarlet lining is flash as hell and I do love a man in a vest. (See: Godon-Levitt, Joseph or Crowder, Boyd.) And, perhaps, the less flash the better. The era of the young fops is over. Long live the crotchety Scot.

  • Lilith Square

Thanks so much for answering an important question that has been troubling me for some time.

    Yep. I'd hit it.

  • Big Softie

I can't wait for Hanrahan's Dr Who / In the Loop video mashup

  • Ozioma

Now there's a man who's not going to go on about fezzes and bow ties and other whimsical such-and-such.

    I like it.

  • periwinkled

I'm having trouble seeing anything but subtle Tuxedo Mask cosplay.

  • meadowdancer

Did anyone hate Tuxedo Mask as much as I did? He was such a killjoy and never did anything but yell encouragements to Sailor Moon which somehow made her realize she needed to do something.

  • annie

It's....fine? It did remind me of his appearance on crag ferguson, but. I'm disappointed he didn't end up looking like an ageing punk rocker with a touch of eyeliner, like the 17-year-old Capaldi Who fanboy.

  • MissAmynae

    Fuckity helloooooo.....

  • Darlene

I like it. He's going to be smokin' hot, you just wait.

  • Is anyone else getting some Doctor Strange vibes off this? Between the hands and the red lining, I'm flashing on some of his less ridiculous modern outfits.

  • AvaLehra

One does need a hint of color. I am dying over this. I mean. DOA.
And Doc Martens...gah. Be still my beating heart.

Ninth Doctor will always own my heart, but this guy is knocking on the door.

  • Darlene

#9 is my doctor too!! <3 And IA with you, this guy is looking good from the gate. I may even be open to love again since 9 broke my heart. (I'd never known the world of the Doctor, nor even known the concept of his regeneration and then BAM, 9 broke my heart and broke it GOOD. I actually remember wailing at the screen when 10 showed up.)

  • AvaLehra

I have Tumblr dedicated to the Ninth Doctor and Christopher Eccleston. Shhh! It's my dirty little secret/secret shame.

David Tennant is a good looking man, but he's just too...pretty. I love a man with character and life and imperfections on his face. Christopher Eccleston brings all the wet lions to the yard.

  • Prepagan

" brings all the wet lions to the yard"

Sorry to butt in but I've seen a few references on Pajiba of this sort to 'lions' and am getting a little frustrated that I can't work out the allusion the word is making. At first I thought it was simply a misspelling of 'loins' but I've seen it too frequently on this site to sustain that idea.

Is perhaps a lion an older version of a cougar or am I completely on the wrong track?

  • AvaLehra

It was initially a misspelling of loins and then it became the typo heard around the world. Since then, it has just taken on a life of its own.

Anyone recall the original lions post?

  • Prepagan

Thanks for this. I can now go forth and consider myself up to speed on this interweb thing.

Now, if someone could just let me know what 'WTF' means...

  • AvaLehra

    Why the face?

  • emmalita

Mrs. Julien has the history on this. A longtime commenter meant to write her loins were moistened, but wrote lions. So now, yes, we refer to moist, damp, wet, roaring lions and lionesses to refer to our bits getting tingly.

  • Darlene

Yes yes yes yes and yes. His continued reluctance to do Doctor-related things disappoints me. :( I need more 9. (ps. um, what's your tumblr?)

  • DataAngel

Doc Marten Brogues. Yes. Yes. Please.

  • AMBLEMORN

Best job in the world (or one of): costuming for Who when a new Doctor arrives on set and it's ALL about figuring out their uniform for the duration of their run.

    Love Capaldi's gear.

  • Sara Habein

Docs and magnificent coat linings 4ever.

  • dorquemada

Just once, I want him to go all Malcolm Tucker on some Daleks. JUST ONCE.

  • InternetMagpie

    More like CROTCH SHOT.

    Those pants are awful.

  • Luke Lane

It looks more like an unfinished Halloween costume.

  • Is it a vest or is it a cardigan?

  • aduspro

The Tumblr fandom has dubbed it the Capaldigan.

  • BWeaves

I love the vest and jacket and lining, but the pants are not working for me. He can take those off any time.

  • Why is Capaldi dancing?

  • Darlene
  • Guest

    Now just add this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

    Or add your suggestion.

  • NateMan

It's a very Doctor-y outfit, as in the medical profession. And the blue is different enough from the TARDIS and yet close enough to be affecting. I like it.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I do love a nicely lined coat, but those pants....

  • Sara Habein

I feel like it might just be the angle on the pants, but yes, pleats can be difficult to pull off.

  • Sara_Tonin00

It's also the break on them. They look too skinny or something. And the black looks weird with the blue. And I normally don't notice things like that.

So yeah, as mswas says - they should just come off.

  • mswas

Oh I think I'd have no problem pulling them off.

  • Sara Habein

Ha oh I see what you did there and please form an orderly queue behind me. ;)

  • Adam Borden

my take: A modern version of the 3rd:

  • AvaLehra

    Absolutely.

  • narfna

He's so dapper. Also, he scares me. I love him.

  • Guest

    Doctor Magician? Magician Who?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

  • annie

Hahahaha I had the same exact thought: I didn't know he became a magician!

  • AvaLehra

That's what I thought of, too! Capaldi did have some input, so I am guessing the lining is all him.

  • JoannaRobinson

    That's brilliant!

  • janetfaust

Are those Doc Martin's? That will make the pell-mell running rather difficult I would think. I too enjoy the vest.

  • Pentadactyl

    I like it!

  • chanohack

Well this will make for some rather boring cosplay.

  • emmalita

I understand he sometimes wears a nightgown and rides a horse.

  • chanohack

    HEE. Thank goodness.

  • emmalita

    For example
