Let's Go Exploring

Two of my kids are of the age where Dora the Explorer was a favourite in the household during their early years. The younger of the two was quite smitten with the show and damn near started speaking Spanish prior to her native English. I don’t speak Spanish! Nevertheless, I never really had an issue with it as it was far better than some of the abhorrent children’s programming of the day. I was always confused about the creepy monkey that was always talking to her though.

Apparently, Dora is growing up. She’s no longer content with just exploring the world and teaching cracker kids a different language. We’re all going to be speaking Spanish soon people because Dora wants to exploring our dreams.

I’m going to be having Backpack nightmares for a week.

I still love you, admin.

I don't have children or know anything about Dora The Explorer, though.

Ayé! This makes my brain feel rojo!

(WHAT a cute little kid, though. Much better than that revamped little shop-tart they turned her into in the header pic. I joined some kind of feminist anti-pooty-tanging-cartoon-girls club after they did this 'reimagining' to her. Seriously, I did.)

Maybe no one's commenting because this was posted all the back in July in Pajiba Love?

Spanish? You're worried about Spanish, a language that shares a common linguistic heritage with your native tongue? How about my daughter's preschool teaching her Chinese? How about that, Robert? THESE CRAZY MOTHERFUCKERS ARE TEACHING MY DAUGHTER CHINESE!!!!! I BARELY UNDERSTAND HER AS IT IS!!!!!

*clears throat, smoothes front of shirt*

In summation, you can take your quaint little language problem and kindly suck poop out of your own buttocks. Imagine a personalized, aggressively taught version of "Ni Hao, Kai-Lan," only I can't be there to at least attempt to understand anything she'll learn from it. As she becomes more and more fluent, the Sino-Tibetan language family will haunt my middle years, my friend.

Let them teach her Japanese and Chinese. She can tell you what the anime REALLY says and can be very helpful in negotiating with geisha. >='D
