Let's Forget Everything Bad We've Heard About 'Into the Woods' and Look at Some Pictures of Anna Kendrick in a Bodice

The first stills from Into the Woods have been released, so just for a moment, just for now, let’s put aside everything we’re dreading about this adaptation. Let’s forget everything Steven Sondheim has said (and retracted) about new songs and neutered wolves. Just for the next 15 seconds while we gaze at some prettiness.

And I’m sorry to admit it, but that headline up there is misleading. There is only ONE picture of Anna Kendrick in a bodice. But it is a very nice bodice and day-um does she wear it well. Plus, there’s Emily Blunt looking gorgeous and Chris Pine on a horse and Meryl Streep just existing.

Alright, back to your rage.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

At what point does looking at a beautiful woman (Kendrick) transition into oogling? Is it an age thing?

  • RobynRobotron

If you're not doing it in person and creeping her out, it's not ogling.

  • megaera

It looks pretty, but I'd be more impressed with song clips that SOUND pretty. La Streep may be a diva, but not so much musically. Also, how are they gonna make Meryl convincingly young as the witch?

  • Lemon_Poundcake

Pine's got a pretty good damn voice though, so maybe that will help?

  • megaera

Yeah. But the Witch has the showstopper songs. Streeps voice stops no shows for me. Kendrick and Pine may have to wear their vocal cords to threads to make up for that

  • wonkeythemonkey

The witch's songs are complex, but they don't require a huge range or pure tone. Streep also has the advantage of not having to project to the cheap seats, unlike her theater predecessors (see also: Ewan McGregor, Anne Hathaway… Meryl Streep again in Mama Mia)

  • megaera

Oh, Meryl in Mama Mia is exactly what I'm thinking of. Streeps idea of piano is Murray to make it super breathy. Also also I am remembering the disturbing autotune sound, which was irritating to hear in Abba covers but horrifying in Sondheim, I refer you to any episode of Glee doing Sondheim.

  • Fruity Fonzie

Meryl is gonna slay as the Witch ♥

  • bastich

Here's hoping that Kendrick can get a hit single out of this movie, too.

  • Anna Kendrick looks like she's about a hair away from stabbing someone in that picture.

  • I just...

    I mean...

Why isn't Joss Whedon directing this? Explain that one to me, universe.

  • Bananaranma

Because Marvel bought the next four years of his time with gross points against Avengers 2 & 3...meaning that four generations on, his great-great grand kids will be debating whether to drink Sunday mimosas in the diamond encrusted chalices or the platinum ones.

    Screw it, I'm in.

  • e jerry powell

I refuse to look forward to this. REFUSE.

  • Sara_Tonin00

Though Tracey Ullman makes me happy, as does James Corden.

  • e jerry powell

    Hmmm. Happy.

Joanna Gleason. Chip Zien. Robert Westenberg. BERNADETTE PETERS.

  • laylaness

Yes! James Corden! I loved him on Doctor Who!

  • RobynRobotron

That's where I know his face from!

  • Bryan

So THAT'S his real name; I just yell out "CRAIG!!!" every time I see him.

  • laylaness

Or "Not Mum", according to Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All.

  • lowercase_ryan

    That's a hell of a cast.

  • Stephen Nein

Well, it looks great. But ask Julia Roberts & Charlize Theron how that all works out . .

  • RobynRobotron

Say what you will about that Huntsman movie, Theron was fantastic in it.

  • You know, I watched that movie and the only thing I remember is Theron being a badass.
