James Gunn Is Sharing His Ultra-Adorable 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Storyboards

Of all the directors and actors and various Hollywood players using social media to push and share their films, James Gunn has always been one of the very best. He’s used his various accounts to share tons of super fun behind-the-scenes tidbits, both for Guardians of Galaxy and now with Vol. 2.

Gunn’s newest share is his weekly Instagram post of #WhatWeShotWednesday, where he gives us a look at a shot from the current filming. Now, this isn’t actual footage— rather, it’s images from Gunn’s own hand drawn storyboards. In one caption, he explains:

Recently I mentioned how I draw every single shot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before we ever shoot a frame. I’ll spread whole scenes over my office floor or all around the walls, sometimes hundreds of shots, and it will give me an idea of how the scene flows, what’s smooth, what’s jumbled, and even what works comedically. Over the entire film I draw thousands of these thumbnails. Many of them are messy and it’s impossible for anyone other than me to tell what they are. Some of them get turned over to accomplished storyboard artists to flesh out. Some of them go directly to our pre-visualization team to turn into animated storyboards. And others just stay in their primitive state. Many of you asked to see these drawings so I thought I’d start posting thumbnails of whatever it was we shot that day on #GotGVol2. I’m not going to explain what the shot is - as I said, they’re messy. But maybe you can match the thumbnail to the shot when the movie is released.

We’d gotten a peak at these storyboards before. Last year, Gunn shared this original portrait of Gamora.

This is what #Gamora looks like in my storyboards. Almost an exact likeness of @zoesaldana, yes?

And yes, I did double check to make sure Gunn doesn’t have any offspring, no small children he might be outsourcing this work to. Nope, just his own loving, adorable art. Anyway, here was this week’s look at Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2:

Other shots include C-3PO

Something called (maybe?) Squapalino?

Recently I mentioned how I draw every single shot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before we ever shoot a frame. So here's the first in the series of #WhatWeShotWednesday (that is, today). Can you guess what it might be?
