I'm More Atari Too

We don’t do music on Pajiba anymore, at least, not officially and I will freely admit that it’s not my strong suit (if I do indeed have one). However, every once in a while, there comes along a song that is just too good not to pass along. I believe that this may be the case with Cee Lo Green’s latest release Fuck You. Recorded as part of his latest album The Lady Killer which is due out December 7, it’s become a runaway viral success in only a few days. I’ve enjoyed Cee Lo’s work on previous albums both solo and as a member of Gnarles Barkley and Goodie Mob even if I do admit that I don’t always “get it”. I believe that he does have a gift for pushing musical boundaries and trying new sounds but, sometimes, a nice simple, “fuck you!” is refreshing. Plus, his turn as Reverend Rollo Goodlove on The Boondocks is just fucking hysterical.

Its the happiest, mood-boosting post-breakup song possible.

ps everyone should avoid his other single, a Band of Horses cover. Its atrocious.

This took the place of the "Bed Intruder Song" in my daily headspace. Wife still super annoyed.

Posted by: Ed at August 24, 2010 8:07 PM

Don't remember which Pajiban I nabbed it from via Facebook, but my wife and a friend in New Orleans Shared it from me, and I know at least two other of my wife's FB friends Shared it also.

IT'S GONE VIRAL, I TELLS YA! VIIIIIIRAAAAAAAAL!

Plus it's a good tune so...there's that.

It's rare that I like upbeat stuff like this, but fuck me if that didn't put a little hitch in my giddy-up.

Posted by: Rykker at August 24, 2010 8:18 PM

I love. I was introduced to this by a girl that I introduced to Pajiba. I shall let her know that the 'Jibaverse has caught on to it.

The problem with this song is that the wrong parts get stuck in my head before I have job interview.

It's awkward sitting in an office humming, 'Oh shit she's a gold digger, just thought you should know n**ga."

Posted by: Brittany at August 24, 2010 8:21 PM

Brittany, I'm finding that part gets stuck in my head too, so I've substituted "Aw shit she's a bad mutha/Just thought you should know, brother". Not quite as punchy as the original lyric, but as a white guy, those are off-limits to me.

Posted by: Ed at August 24, 2010 8:27 PM

It's like a peppy 60s pop song with vicious lyrics. Quite catchy.

Cee Lo is magic. The man has a strong voice with a lot of character. You can tell he knows what he's doing with music and I have nothing but respect for that.

This also stops me from constantly singing "Airplanes." And by "Airplanes," I mean the Hayley Williams parts. And by the Hayley Williams parts, I mean the harmonies I keep improvising off the hook of that damn song. Save me from myself, Cee Lo.

Ed, as a brown American, I must encourage the further use of that word in more situations. Nothing is more hilarious than seeing a well-to-do Aryan in a suit say, "I'm going to get some Starbucks, any of you n**gas want anything?"

Posted by: Brittany at August 24, 2010 8:40 PM

My Atari 2600 stopped working because of a loose toggle on the power switch. I had it rigged so that rubber bands wrapped around the on-off trigger to keep it in place, but eventually that just stopped working. I wonder now, though, if it might be possible to open the thing up and fix it.

Mul-ti-racial relation-hip is a trend in future, no race gap all over the world!!!

It is, Darth.
You can find replacement parts HERE.
Don't quote me, but I think the part# is CO10373.

Well fuck you!

Nothing is more hilarious than seeing a well-to-do Aryan in a suit say, "I'm going to get some Starbucks, any of you n**gas want anything?"

And just like that, I'm getting a divorce and re-marrying.

Any you n**gas coming to the reception?

love this song.
it reminds me of my childhood (don't ask).

Way back in 1972, Harry Nillson released a song called "You're Breaking My Heart", which was a great breakup song. It also happened to repeatedly use the 2 heretofore unheard-of-in-commercial-music (by me, at any rate) words "Fuck you". If you only know Nilsson from "Everybody's Talking" from Midnight Cowboy, that's not remotely his best. He was a great and funny writer, and had a great voice. I guess you can tell I liked him a lot (he died in 1994), not to mention that I'm pretty old. Anyway, if you're interested in more sung "Fuck you"s, check it out:

Its like wildfire

Found a link from the Dallas Observer http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2010/08/three_movie_scenes_that_would.php That places the song in a scene from Shawshank Redemption, Say Anything and Dirty Dancing! Some serious awesomeness

Posted by: Drea at August 24, 2010 10:59 PM

I'm happily married, but damn if that isn't the most addictive song I've heard in awhile.

Posted by: neurotica at August 24, 2010 11:10 PM

I don't think I could start now. I've been substituting "brother" into Ice Cube lyrics for years. Plus, I'm Australian, and we're not exactly known for our stellar race relations.

Although "The Wrong Brotha Ta Fuck Wit' " just doesn't cut through...

When will unattractive, overweight guys stop whining that women leave them because they are broke?

Catchy song, tho'.

::whispering:: But Black Sheep did it better...

Check his hook on De La Soul's Held Down, a brilliant song. Pulled from Youtube, so no link. Fuck you, WMG, for pulling the video. Guess how many fewer people will like the song and buy it on itunes? Maybe five, yah, fuck you.

Posted by: Brenton at August 25, 2010 2:27 AM

Since we're talkin music, can I recommend Metric's 'Black Sheep' from Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Those who've seen the movie will recognize it as the song The Clash at Demonhead sing at Lee's Palace.

Unfortunately, those bottom-feeding ass tasters in the music industry deemed 'Black Sheep' an album only track on both iTunes and Amazon MP3. And they wonder why people illegally download music. Look, I'll pay $1.29 for a song if I must, but I won't pay $15.99 to hear one song.

Discovered that last night, and proceeded to dance to it like a fool around my apartment. It reminds me of my parents' motown addiction from when I was little, except, you know, inappropriate. Between this and Cake's 'Nugget' I am all about the cheerful flipping of the verbal bird.

So far, haven't been able to watch or listen to this one... the kids do start school today though.

Posted by: Mrs Smith at August 25, 2010 7:19 AM

Fantastic!

Love the peppy "Ooo Ooo Ooo!" after some of the "Fuck You"s.

There's something about CeeLo's voice that burrows into my brain. "Crazy" stayed there for 3 years after seeing that "Star Wars" themed VMA performance about 5 years ago.

Apparently you may have missed it, but unattractive, overweight guys have been deemed persona non nookie, at least 'round these parts. So OF COURSE he had to have the dough. Why else would she bother with him?

Posted by: Vermillion at August 25, 2010 9:14 AM

Catchy. It's a got a good beat and you can dance to it.

I also enjoy the supered lyrics. Seeing "Fuck You" in large block letters is kind of delightful.

Posted by: Slash at August 25, 2010 11:17 AM

1. I give it an 87. It's got a catchy tune and you can dance to it, and the video gives you all the words, so you can't fuck them up by mishearing them.

2. Brittany, what race is brown American?

3. When I was 10 I was given a form to fill out that had race on it. Never having seen that before, I wrote down 50 yard dash, as that was the race I was best at. My teacher sent me back with a rubber (eraser, to you Americans) and told me that it meant the color of my skin, black or white. I have a lot of birthmarks, and wanting to be very correct, I put down white with black polka dots. I got sent to the headmistress for being a smartarse.

Posted by: BWeaves at August 25, 2010 11:52 AM

Oh! Slash. Great minds think alike.

Posted by: BWeaves at August 25, 2010 11:58 AM

This is going to get stuck in my head at church, I just know it. Every stinking time I hear a song with a curse word, drug reference, or sexual innuendo, it becomes a Sunday brain song.

Great song, though!

In my case, brown is a delicious blend of Puerto Rican, Brazilian, Blackfoot native American, Chinese, and of course, dem Africans.

Posted by: Brittany at August 26, 2010 1:29 AM

That description just made me REALLY hungry.

That was great. The video was really good, too. I wouldn't have expected text to be so compelling.
